I'm sure you, of course, have heard of the Planeswalkers.

...Oh, you haven't? Well, allow me to inform you.

The Planeswalkers...beings of power beyond our imagination! Capable of wielding magic thought unheard of, powered by a Spark that resides in their being! The Planeswalkers are capable of doing anything!...Well, with the right training, of course.

Imagine, the ability to have nature fight along side you! Creating giant golems of nature to battle your most dreaded foes! The ability to cast fire as easily and casually as breathing! Read minds, protect others, raise the dead! All available at your finger tips, all possible with your imagination and power!

The Planeswalkers are the strongest beings in the Multiverse. From Plane to Plane they travel, through their own means and reasons! Some virtuous and powerful, seeking to help others with their power!

Some...some vile, and some wish only to subjigate those around them, for their own twisted means. And every reason in between.

...Well, why am I telling you this?

I figured it was obvious!

So, let me finish by asking this...what kind of Planeswalker will YOU be...?

...

Rise of the Planeswalkers is a roleplay set in the Magic The Gathering universe and everything in between. A Sandbox style Roleplay wherein the Planeswalkers (P Cs!) are free to jump from Plane to Plane, doing as they please on their own agenda. How they act, how they struggle, how they go about doing things is totally up to you.

At the moment, no concrete Story aside from the ones the players create until further notice, so build your character, build your world, and more importantly...build your destiny.

HOWEVER! That's not to say that everything is spell slinging...some Planeswalkers enjoy the slow, subtle embrace of mental work. Planeswalker duels...a special phenomenon wherein Planeswalkers harness their powers in a...SLIGHTLY less...destructive way of resolution.

Emphasis on Slightly.

Custom made and canon Planeswalkers are of course, free to join. The only Planeswalkers NOT up for grabs are currently deceased ones, missing ones, and Nicol Bolis and Ugin.

  • Name: Aeva Aefa
  • Age: 26
  • Appearance: Swole, Six Foot Elf. Wears a lot of plain colors and simple movable clothes with an upside-down Golgari emblem on them.
  • Plane of Origin: Ravnica
  • Color: Green / Black
  • Powers: Aeva controls classic Golgari decay and rejuvenation alongside an army of nastyass monsters. She has limited external healing abilities but she can heal herself extensively. Her decaying powers are only effective within about 10 yards and only work on nonmagical objects and nonsentient plants, but they can also be used to fuel her summoning magic by drawing the energy straight out of something; twenty pounds of organic matter are sufficient to fuel one pip of mana. Outside an official, consensual Planeswalker Duel, she can't summon anything from her deck that isn't an animal though—the best she can manage is a Vulpine Goliath. Inside a duel she has grown skilled at constructing facsimiles of Theros and Ravnican creatures, but they could never compare to the real thing. She also has limited quick-casting and short-duration enhancement magic, your classic Giant Growth attacks without the size change, but that's extensively draining if she's not the target. Even without magic though, she's a talented fistfighter and lifter; she has the fitness, hardiness, and lifting skill of someone who has spent most of their life taking out people's trash on the streets of Ravnica.
  • History: Aeva is a Street Golgari elf from a family of disgraced Devkarin Elves, the elites of the Golgari Swarm. Her parents were expelled to the streets for loyalty to their duties over the Golgari's own guild politics: they instructed their sanitation worker underlings to dispose of and compost a cartload of failed Simic experiments, as they should, rather than expose the Izzet's incompetence in order to shame them and grant the Golgari good visibility and PR. Aeva was born after this expulsion, to parents clearly more highborn than her peers but living in the dirt just the same, stuck running a trash collection union a tenth the size of their old business. They were all true believers in the Golgari's ethos however, and her parents taught her the cycles of birth and death that let their plane of Ravnica function. She was content to live in a family martyred on what they believed in, but it was not to be. Rakdos Marauders sent by Azorius leadership tore through her neighborhood for the crime of unprecedented growth; the ambition and friendliness of the Aefa Trash Disposal Union was too great and they needed to be violently downsized. Running home to protect her family from the raid, Aeva took a barrage of knifewounds to the chest and sparked out, recovering from the wounds and finding herself teleported to a foreign world with a man's severed arm still holding the knife in her. She spent the better part of a year after wandering a land she found to be called Theros before finally figuring out how to Planeswalk and, rather predictably, found her home destroyed and her parents missing. The shock made her accidentally Planeswalk again, and sent her back to Theros, lost and fucked up. She had seen what a Planeswalker could do, and knew the Golgari and Ravnicans had clearly lost their way, so Aeva made the call that clearly she had to redo the Golgari, however she could.
  • Ambition: Aeva aims to create the New Golgari, founding a gang of fatalist naturalists less driven by hunger for power.
  • Deck List: This decklist is EDH and would literally double my profile length so I've linked it externally.

  • Name: Alice Yemeng
  • Age: 28
  • Appearance: "The light shall rule all."
  • Plane of Origin: Innistrad
  • Color: White
  • Powers: Alice is a physical fighter who holds dominion over whatever human soldiers remains on Innistrad, including their angels. Despite hating vampires and other creatures, she once served under the Planeswalker Sorin Markov as a normal human instrument alongside her twin sisters Berry and Candice Yemeng. When Sorin disappeared and left behind the Parasite Blade, she took it and used it to rally the remaining humans to fight back the the Eldrazi that had invaded her homeland. She's capable of holy magic that can rejuvenate and inspire those around her. She's a skilled swordsman as well, capable of fending off creatures vicious, feral, and intelligent, even if outnumbered three to one. With the Parasite Blade, she is capable of stealing one's life force to strengthen her own.
  • History: Born and raised on Innistrad alongside her sisters Berry and Candice, she was forced to fight at a young age to protect those she cared about from monstrous creatures that dared to attack her family. Once Sorin came in to power, with promises of a better future for the humans Alice decided to enlist in his personal army, alongside her siblings. Though, the promises were short lived when the angel Avacyn fell to madness. Once the high angel was killed by Sorin's hand, and the Parasite Blade was left unguarded, the realm of Innistrad fell to the hands of the Eldrazi temporarily which resulted in madness for most races. After a long and grueling battle where the Eldrazi was sealed into Innistrad's moon, Alice found the Parasite Blade, but not her master. Neither could she find her beloved twin sisters either. Taking the Parasite Blade for herself and a feather of Avacyn, she gained the spark which ignited her Planeswalker powers. Now, she travels the different planes in order to find both her beloved Master, and her missing siblings, while also uniting whatever forces she can in case the Eldrazi come back to Innistrad.
  • Ambition: To unite all the planes under one banner and to create a rightful place for the humans once and for all.
  • Deck List (62 Total):

  • Name: Ashur
  • Age: 25
  • Appearance: At first glance, someone could rightly confuse Ashur for a very quiet and reserved elf from any number of planes, but when she has a moment to not wear her too-large moss-colored cloak it's clear that she is very Human, has a skin studded with green corroded copper and her right arm has outright been replaced by a skeletal and four-fingered bronze prosthetic of unclear design. She seems unconcerned with the copper but the twitching replacement arm is something she tries to hide.
  • Plane of Origin: Mirrodin
  • Color Magic: Artifact
  • Powers: Ashur is uniquely talented with metal. While a lot of mages can summon the colorless artifice with relative ease, Ashur has found her best use of magic in bringing forth seemingly endless variations of the small construct known as Myr. The upsides to such an artifact-based mysticism is that she can draw power from just about any landscape... But often it does not make up for the fact that Myr are rather pathetic and she seems incapable or unwilling to cast any type of spell other than Artifacts.
  • History: How does one explain what happened on Mirrodin? Corruption bubbled from every surface and despite the best efforts of those that lived there Mirrodin fell easily. Ashur wasn't there to see it's end, in the pain and panic of the initial strike her latent spark sent her spiraling from her settlement on the boundary between the Glimmervoid and Tangle to a blasted ruin on another plane, her right arm missing from the initial attack. By the time she returned to consciousness something new had taken it's place... Ashur has not returned home since, she knows that home will not be there when she returns unless she has the means to take it for herself.
  • Ambition: Obtain unparalleled and unassailable power and return Mirrodin to it's pre-Phyrexian state.
  • Deck List: Ashur's Myr (60 cards)
    • 4x Myr Servitor
    • 4x Myr Battlesphere
    • 1x Myr Turbine
    • 1x Myr Reservoir
    • 3x Myr Galvanizer
    • 2x Copper Myr
    • 2x Gold Myr
    • 2x Iron Myr
    • 2x Leaden Myr
    • 2x Silver Myr
    • 2x Palladium Myr
    • 2x Alloy Myr
    • 2x Shimmer Myr
    • 1x Myr Superion
    • 2x Coretapper
    • 1x Darksteel Juggernaut
    • 1x Grindclock
    • 1x Mirrorworks
    • 1x Chimeric Mass
    • 24x Wastes

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

I swear I made this character before I realised how similar it could be to an existing one. If the prosthetic limbs combined with mild Phyrexian obsession infringe too much on Ashur's deal, I can change things around or even remake a character from scratch. Additionally, my lore knowledge is several years out of date; if my timeframes are off, please tell me!

  • Name: Ersir
  • Age: 22
  • Appearance: "I do miss my skin though." Under that mask lies a human enough face, but his left arm and right leg have been replaced wholesale with artificed equivalents. Pale skin from being under a roof or cloak all the time, combined with messy, reasonably short black hair.
  • Plane of Origin: Zendikar.
  • Color: Blue/Black.
  • Powers: Although he hasn't been bothering to improve his personal strength, Ersir's ability to merge things that just shouldn't belong together is unparalleled, allowing him to graft flesh onto steel like sewing a cloth, to give one example. When replacing an object, he can remove components (gears, stones, arms) so cleanly and precisely that *mere mort-* ahem, onlookers are often left wondering if there was anything there at all.
  • History:

Born in Zendikar back when it was caught up in a mild fight for survival against eldritch abominations, Ersir's parents always tried to hammer home the danger posed by the Eldrazi. Although he didn't grow to fear and hate those beings the same way his mother and father did, he was cognisant enough to see the threat they posed to most of the people he cared about. Although by no means the smartest nor the most powerful in his village, Ersir took to experimenting with anti-Eldrazi weapons. Most of his efforts met with failure, but one or two of his designs saw adoption in their little militia.

Eventually, the implacable hordes reached Ersir's home. Panicked and staring down a drone (which, for him, was no small threat), he ended up igniting, landing in New Phyrexia, of all places. Confused, his experimental instincts picked up the slack that his shellshocked mind couldn't. Touching that pool of sparkly oil was a big mistake, and a panicked amputation later, what medical training he got before the attack ensured he wouldn't be bleeding out that day. Watching his arm rapidly transform into something very different, he ended up very carefully taking a sample to study, and although he felt he could go back, he refused to return to his home until he had something that could beat back the Eldrazi themselves.

Fast forward a few years. Ersir's experimentation has born fruit (although an unfortunate accident involving one evening's cooking had resulted in the similarly-panicked amputation of a leg). Despite being down two limbs he had to figure out shoddy replacements for, he had gained a burgeoning understanding of Glistening Oil that rivalled his understanding of tourniquets. Unfortunately, a few of the locals had cottoned on to what he was doing, so well-sealed vials of oil at the ready, he began travelling the planes, never staying long enough to allow a mob to organise against him. After a few hops, he took to wearing a mask, figuring the safety of his own identity was worth the immediate suspicion.

Making more progress on his own strains of Phyrexians every day, Ersir has lately been occupied with trying to ignore rumours of his own infection while he works on his magnum opus, occasionally popping back to New Phyrexia (or one of his caches) for an oil refill when he has to make a hasty retreat. Frankly, it's a miracle he hasn't accidentally caused an apocalypse in another plane yet, with how much he's spilled vials on himself.

  • Ambition: To enthrall an Eldrazi with the Oil, and use it to fight back against the others (he doesn't know that the war for Zendikar is over).
  • Deck List (61 cards):
    • 10 Swamp

  • Name: Rick Samuels
  • Age: 21
  • Appearance: Blond, good-looking, totally not suspicious at all. Rick is a handsome blond man in his twenties, and usually wears these outfits that assist him in his activities - usually clandestine ones.
  • Plane of Origin: Ravnica?
  • Color Magic: Red and Black
  • Powers: Rick seems to be a rather odd sort - his magic takes the form of by and large a variety of powerful weapons and artifacts. His handle on planeswalking is somewhat finnicky, and this usually manifests in rather crude landings. He's also armed with a number of dangerous close quarters weapons.
  • History: Rick claims he grew up in Ravnica, under the "care" of a quietly abusive nun running an orphanage called Himmelhearth. His spark ignited when she revealed her true nature and threatened to do something unspeakable to him and a girl he was planning on escaping with. Of course, that's if you believe Rick's story. What is known is that he turned up on Ravnica, has a very dubious history, and is keen on gathering information and doing as he will. What is known is that he is capable of both selfishness and surprising altruism.
Ambition: "People seem to think I answer to them. I'm sick of that. I'll do with this power what I feel like."
  • Deck List: 62 cards
