Game Thread

Dear Freya,

My word, I know I have been absolutely assaulting you with letters – but there is such a multitude of fantastic things occurring! Flashes in the sky, roars of thunder, wondrous mechanisms we can barely comprehend crashing down from Heaven! Oh, and to think our lifestyle was troublesome enough, what with the ruthless bastards popping up left and right and laying claim to our plunder. But it is unquestionably a fantastic chain of events! The Volant has never been such a beautiful, vigorous beast of a vessel in all its years as it is now! Cannons that rip apart mountains, speeds faster than the winds that once carried it, and the weapons, dear God, the weapons...

You must forgive my tirade, beloved sister. But the excitement is overflowing from us all, like an infection in the air! Yet there is still grim news, I'm terribly sorry to say – the dreadful Blackbeard has been said to have found the Epicenter and is taking its workings for himself. If that wasn't bad enough, further rumours suggest he is planning on hunting down other captains. I fear any who end up crossing his path, if these sayings are indeed the case then I cannot promise I'll be coming back home. It is all I and the rest of us in the lifestyle of piracy to do but flee from his wrath.

Yes, we must flee. It has been decided. If Blackbeard–or whomever or whatever he has become after discovery of the Epicentre–is indeed hunting us, we must venture to lands afar. I can only pray I will be able to see you and dear Mother again, but with all that is happening I can't even guarantee we'll make it in our emigration.

May God or whoever deity be watching over us be with you too, Freya, and with Mother as well, bless her soul. I will write again if I ever get a moment's peace. But for now, at least, farewell.

With all my love,

–Ascot.

Or in layman's terms, beneath all the apparent tragedy beholds a very stupid idea.

So, welcome to Seven Seas – a pirate RP focused around a what-if scenario involving alien hypertech crash landing during the Golden Age of Piracy, the crater housing the extraterrestrial equipment being dubbed the 'Epicenter'. As such, conventional schooners, frigates, galleons and the like have been outfitted with pulse cannons, ion thrusters, ultrasharp rams, and all manner of insane alterations and high -tech weaponry. Even the crew and captains of these ships haven't gone untouched – with cybernetic implants, nanotechnology, and other advanced bioengineering being relatively common to see.

In other words, this is purely a fun-focused concept, although the grim, underlying implications of such a setting are absolutely encouraged to be explored as seen in the opening blurb. Go absolutely crazy – as long as its keeping in line with the forum and roleplaying rules, and the abilities of each character don't (entirely)note  surpass Super Weight 3 in power level, we should be all good.

You may have a maximum of two characters at once. This is to prevent crowding, however you are allowed to write out one character in order to create or bring in another. Note this rule doesn't apply to crew and first mates, as long as they don't grow to overshadow your primary character.

The RP will also start off fairly lax and open ended to get everything settled, cement the setting, and have a few action moments, but Ascot's worries of a technologically-advanced Blackbeard hunting down fellow captains may not be mere anxiety talking...

Added in the fact that the chosen theme for the RP is (appropriately) The Seven Seas by F-777, and I think we have something special.

Ideas and further worldbuilding are appreciated, so let's see how this bonkers brain's latest idea pans out in practice. With all that said, let's get a signup template set up, shall we?

  • Name: (Plus whatever nickname(s) they may have.)
  • Age:
  • Gender: (A massive influx of female pirate captains has come about, mainly because any previous naysayers can now be easily pummeled into submission.)
  • Appearance: (Text descriptions or image links are both fine.)
  • Personality: (Are they ruthless? Friendly? Amicable-but-will-stab-you-in-the-eyes-if-you-look-at-them-funny? Are they well-known across the oceans, or just barely making a dent?)
  • Abilities: (Both common skills and their enhancements from encountering the Epicenter go here, whether they be a simple grasp on literacy or being able to shoot Frickin' Laser Beams out of each toenail.)
  • Weapons: (Transforming weapons are encouraged, but not necessary. Still, make these as mental as your ships and your character to match. Expect superpowered swordfights to occur, so don't be afraid to make something never before seen.)
  • Background: (Their life up to and including their encounter with the Epicentre and the technology held within, plus what they have been doing with it since.)
  • Vessel: (Detail their method of sailing here. Schooners, clippers, frigates, and galleons, whatever they are – make 'em techy, and make 'em insane. Mostly stick to a 2-D plane for now – no flying vessels just yet until I can safely judge how they'll be, but you are completely allowed to have a man o' war be able to hit relative velocities of a jet ski or speedboat roughly its own size and have the ability to perform advanced acrobatic manoeuvres such as corkscrews by bouncing off of particularly large waves. You may further alter the ship based on any parts you get over the course of the game, but please edit them into your post to reflect them when you do. Again, if you have any issues or clarification you need from me, feel free to DM me and I will answer as soon as possible.)

Hoist the sails and COUNT ME IN!!

  • Name: Marysa the Mad, The White Eagle, The Chainbreaker
  • Age: 25
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: Here she stands! She's 5'2" and weighs 120 lbs, but can still kick your sorry slaver ass.
  • Personality: Marysa is mad, in more ways then one. To her crew, she comes across as a Jack Sparrow-esque character who is kind and helpful, but is sometimes infuriating to deal with. To her enemies, she is a terrifying, vengeful demon of the seas who will share a joke with you before she steals your stuff and sends you packing. She is very slow to anger, but should you somehow manage to enrage her, she turns fifty shades of psycho. Due to her past, she is highly protective of children. Despite everything that she's gone through, she's managed to remain idealistic.
  • Abilities:
    • Clockwork Arm: The entirety of Marysa's right forearm is a mechanical prosthetic, and she usually covers it up with a thick leather glove. It enhances what remains of her left arm, making it several times stronger than before. It can shift into an Arm Cannon, and it looks like this.
    • Deadshot Eye: Marysa's left eye has been replaced with a mechanical one with a golden glowing logo of a crosshairs on it. It's bonded to her mechanical arm and helps her to automatically aim perfectly with it. It also works to analyze weak spots in opponents and can also be used with other ranged weapons. Usually, she keeps it covered with an eyepatch.
    • Scholar-Warrior: Marysa used to be a slave, and knows that slaves are fobidden to read. Therefore, after she escaped, she set about learning everything that she could. After taking up the noble goal of fighting slavers, she began searching for more knowledge to teach the slaves she rescued. However, it hasn't been easy to obtain rare books and raid slaver ships. Marysa has obtained a healthy helping of skill with swords, guns, and weaponry in general. With the increase in technology levels, she's managed to become even more fearsome.
  • Weapons:
    • Clockwork Pistols: A pair of steampunk-looking pistols. They do far more damage than they have a right to. They look like this.
    • Cutlass: A simple cutlass made of an extremely durable alloy. It's uncannily good at cutting things. It looks like this.
  • Background:
    • Marysa was sold to slavers who specialized in children as a baby and forced to work on their barge while she grew old enough to be sold. Eventually, on one fateful evening, she was severely reprimanded for asking for more pudding. Marysa promptly grabbed a shovel, eviscerated the fellow who yelled at her, and led an impromptu orphan rebellion.
    • Some years later, after she obtained a crew and ship to continue hounding slavers, she had a run-in with the Epicenter. With her new weapons and resources, she swore to annoy/scare the pants off slavers some more, until slavery was completely abolished.
  • Vessel: The Merry Hell was a sturdy and fast frigate even before it got its upgrades. Now, with its lightweight armor-plated hull and turbo boosters to grant it extra speed, it's become even sturdier and faster. The hull has been infused with repair nanites so it can regenerate from mild to moderate damage, and the mere thought of its 20 plasma guns are enough to make any slaver shake in their boots. Additionally, it's got a self-perpetuating engine, which has recently become a must for every respectable high-tech vessel. It flies a flag which has a white silhouette of an eagle breaking free from chains on a black backdrop.

I can’t ignore an idea of this level of absurdity.

  • Name: Elizabeth “Elly” Goldhart (The Foul Child, The Ravenous Glutton, That Annoying Brat)
  • Age: 9 (And a half!)
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: A scruffy little girl in a well-worn, threadbare dress, whose skin and clothes are speckled with the grime indicative of her… questionable grasp on hygiene. Has been known to smell a little funky.
  • Personality: Elly is a cheerful, excitable, somewhat naïve child, whose idea of piracy mostly consists of stealing food from other ships to sate her voracious appetite, burying random crap on equally random islands, and not having to take baths (all of which she’s been known to boast about).
  • Abilities:
    • Magic Touch – The epicenter blessed Elly with the fantastic ability to shove random bits of machinery together and have it work the way she wants it to. Handy.
  • Weapons:
    • The Fork of Destiny: Elly’s “sword” actually bears a closer resemblance to a comically oversized fork. However, behind the silly design lies a weapon capable of slicing through steel and shooting its prongs off as jet-propelled harpoons.
    • Rainbow Beam: Elly’s sidearm is a stereotypical ray gun that fires rainbow colored light. Said light inflicts a random detrimental effect on whoever it hits, and turns their clothes into a veritable prism of color.
    • Sludge Bombs: Exactly what it says on the tin. Small bombs that explode into a thick, sticky slime, entrapping everything in the blast radius.
  • Background: Elly was an adventurous and impulsive child who decided to run away from home to become a pirate. Normally, a 9-year old wouldn’t get too far, but Elly happened to live right on the cusp of the epicenter. Making her way into the vast trove, she was unknowingly exposed to the radiation of one of its many strange machines, resulting in her Magic Touch. It was said Magic Touch what allowed her to turn a dinky rowboat into a seaworthy vessel and create her own pirate gear, and set out onto the seas.
  • Vessel: At its core, the Water Unicorn is a simple rowboat. However, thanks to Elly’s modifications, it now possesses a subsonic self-perpetuation engine, a condensed photon extendable boarding ramp, and an exploding confetti cannon. Also she lost the oars.

AKA Nixer

Both accepted!

And now for the man behind the opening blurb himself:

  • Name: Captain Ascot “Nix” Rutherford.
  • Age: 23.
  • Gender: Male.
  • Appearance: 5'9, slim, treading the line between classy and scruffy. Has a severely misshapen right ear at the very tip, like it has been partially healed from being sliced off. Tends to almost always have an impish grin on his face, and even when not smiling he tends to have a sparkle of mischief in his eye. Enjoys wearing typical pirate clothing, but also likes the less flamboyant casual suits as seen here when he is not aboard his ship.
  • Personality: A thrillseeker would perhaps be the best short description for Ascot, and is as quick, spontaneous, and cunning as the shapeshifting water sprite that his nickname is derived from. He is generally adverse to combat and confrontation, preferring a negotiable, calmer route and aiming to please whatever guests he has, however he is aware of the necessity of violence in his lifestyle and reluctantly accepts it when necessary, shutting off his ingrained empathy for the duration of the skirmish (albeit with a perpetual look of discontent). While nonetheless active with his crew, he likes his private time, usually spending long hours in his cabin during peaceable moments between the chaos. Also an artist and writer at heart, he prefers to express his vibrant imagination on paper rather than through conversation, enjoying the romanticized fantasies of his own head than the 'disappointing' reality of that just outside. Still, though, he is by no means shy – reservedly mischievous is a term thrown around by his men – and loves to spend time with the joviality of his crew and genuinely treating them as an extension of his family. Genuine, kind, though perhaps lacking in respect a tad, Ascot is moderately known across the seas as a spontaneous and generally amicable pirate, but his reluctance towards fear-mongering techniques means he has to rely on his wits, skills, and Epicenter-garnered enhancements and weapons more than pure reputation.
  • Abilities:
    • Nanotech: His own personal investigation of the Epicentre has led to his body being infected by a horde of microscopic robots. These tiny mechanoids run through his bloodstream and muscles in order to enhance his physical capabilities; such as granting him superhuman strength, speed, and regenerative properties. However, he only seems to be able to activate one ability at a time, and thus has to concentrate separately for each. It is speculated that he may not be able to call upon his technology-driven powers if disoriented or otherwise inhibited in brain functionality and focus.
    • Inner-Body Compass: A sixth sense Ascot has obtained from exposure to the Epicentre. He describes it as an instinctual 'pull northwards' perhaps similar to that of birds – granting him an innate sense of direction. Interestingly, strong magnetic forces can actually scramble this sense for up to 24 hours, forcing him to rely on more conventional methods.
  • Weapons:
    • Splinterbeam: A large claymore whose blade is made up of many segments rather than being one solid mass. The segments are of a dull-coloured, greyish alien metal, and conduct energy and electricity to a tremendous degree; more than that of conventional metals. The only truly solid piece in the entire weapon is the hilt, whose guard houses an unknown, blue-tinted gemstone. When the handle (which is constructed of a substance that moulds to its wielder's hand) is squeezed at a particular point, the blade partially opens up in a manner akin to a lotus; after which energy will swiftly build up in the gemstone and along the fragmented blade and out of the newly created opening as a destructive beam of light, which can cut through stone like a hot knife through butter. However, this functionality can only be used a handful of times in a fight, as it quickly burns out the gemstone and requires a period of rest to recharge before being able to be fired again. The blade is also designed to disintegrate into its respective parts when applied significant force that would otherwise snap it – to which it will reconstruct itself back around the hilt. Said hilt also assimilates the genetic structure of the most recent hand to pick it up, allowing it to be telekinetically retrieved at the current user's will. However, another person picking it up will cause it to immediately consider them to be the new wielder, thus making the previous one unable to access any of the previously listed effects.
    • Plasma Pistol: A backup weapon able to be folded up into a shape small enough to be stored in his lapel inconspicuously. He carries this in the event that his Splinterbeam is separated from him – and it has unlimited ammo in the form of a self-charging battery (although it has a low rate of fire and burns out every five shots, needing to cool off for a few seconds before being able to be used again).
  • Background: Born to a now single mother and an unknown father in Bristol, Ascot was raised alongside his sister Freya as a homeschooled child due to his mother being unable to meet the funds for them to attend normal school. Garnering a reputation as a loveable but occasionally irritating troublemaker, Ascot soon found work as a privateer off the British Isles once he was of age, eventually moving out to sea after discovering his love for exploration and the feeling of exhilaration brought with sailing. In a spur-of-the-moment decision, brought about from an unexpected pirate raid on the ship Merryweather that he was aboard, Ascot declared that the crew of the invading ship incorporate him as one of their members, proving his desire to do so by cutting of the tip of his own ear (somewhat damaging his hearing in the process) and claiming he would do the same to the other if need be. Evidently, the captain of the pirate vessel thought his courage was proven enough, and brought him aboard as a simple rigger before eventually giving him the position of lookout. After the captain plundered a more modern, sleeker ship, he gifted Ascot (who was by then 21) his old ship and a portion of his crew in gratitude for his service, warning him to 'treat her well'. Ecstatic, Ascot immediately renamed the ship The Volant and began a pirating career of his own, one that has so far lasted two years. While still keeping his inner child and mischievousness alive, Ascot has been very quickly matured and hardened by his experiences, having suffered several losses from his crew as well as realising the difficulties his mother and sister are having in coping without his presence. Although sometimes doubtful and even occasionally regretting his spontaneous decision back when he was just a young lad, Ascot believes his fate is set, and the shocking, awe-inspiring event of the alien technology crashing down from the heavens has only cemented his lifestyle choice and the insanity brought with it once more.
  • Vessel:
    • The Volant: A medium-sized, somewhat outdated and aged brig with an original total number of 16 cannons. After its augmentation with the alien technology, the Volant has reinforced armour plating, four electromagnetically-charged impulse thrusters situated on the back (capable of propelling the ship to speeds of up to 65 knots) and modified plasma turrets in place of cannons (although the number of which has been cut down to 12 as a result). Despite its colossal potential for firepower and insane speed, the ship lacks any real tech-based defense, having only armour plating to cover it (which while deflective of conventional cannon fire can be easily ripped through by other alien weaponry). As such, the Volant's combat style is reflective of its captain: fast, hard-hitting, and unafraid to use tricksy methods to get through a fight. It is because of the ship's fragility and the emotional connection to its original captain that is just a couple of many reasons why Ascot is so avoidant of conflict. It is also rather easy to overturn, especially while travelling at its trademarked high speeds, so Ascot is especially cautious in regards to handling it – contrasting to his otherwise carefree-seeming demeanour.

  • Name: Michael “The Subtle” O’Sullivan

  • Age: 30

  • Gender: Male

  • Appearance: He has an uncanny resemblance to a certain Messiah, which prompted some of his crews to genuinely believe that he is the second coming of Jesus. About his attire, he (and his crew) wear more like English gentlemen than typical pirates. It stems from their belief that they are more sophisticated than others.

  • Personality: The nickname “The Subtle” was created by others for sarcastic mockery. Michael himself is anything but. Bombastic, delusional and full of ham that rivals Shakespearean actors. Michael O’Sullivan is also incredibly obsessed with firepower. He believes that it is his mission to spread the joy and fun of explosions. In a way, he is very inefficient and impractical, preferring his weapons to be more dramatic and awesome. That said, he is adamant against causing unnecessary casualties.

  • Abilities:

    • Exploding Nanomachines: One of the things one can notice very easily about Michael is his right arm, which is a blue and sleek mechanical arm consisting of nanomachines. This arm can rocket punch, rocket grab (a detached arm grabs someone, then he pulls them with magnetic device) and play piano. Another thing to note about it is the fact that it can explode at Michael’s will. A device connecting his brain and nanomachines sends a neuron signal to the nanomachines operating system (which is located on his shoulder), and the OS converts nanomachines into explosive nanomachines. This arm can also regenerate because nanomachines.
    • There are two forms of explosion: full explosion and scattered explosion.

      • Full explosion: The whole arm itself explodes, creating a massive boom.

      • Scattered explosion: The arm shatters, and those shrapnels create smaller, but numerous explosions.

    • Biological Explosion: Just in case the Nanomachines do not work, he altered his left arm biologically for it to be capable of exploding things. How it works: cells on his left arm react with Explodium, a substance that can turn anything into an explosive. Then, part of his arm that has already turned into a bomb will detach, enabling Michael to throw it anywhere and enjoy the kaboom. This arm can also regenerate, although at a slower rate than Nanos.

    • Laser from the Eyes: His right cybernetic eye can fire lasers.

    • Weakness: Unlike his arms, the rest of his body cannot regenerate. Also, he can’t aim even if his life depended on it. Also, his sense of direction is terrible, leaving him to rely on Sammy, his best friend. Also illiterate.

  • Weapons:

    • Grenade-Pistol Launcher: A pistol that launches mini-grenades.

    • Chainsaw-Sword: Exactly what it says: a blade that also acts as a mini-chainsaw. Also calls it a Great Communicator, since it struck fear in his enemies' heart.

  • Backstory: The reason Michael became a pirate was because he wanted fun. However, there, he found anything but fun. Michael was a nobody. He was one of the crew of Eric the Bloody. Everyone treated him like dirt, and he was subject to many mockery and abuse due to his somehow unconventional logic. Also, Eric’s crew were infamous for their unnecessary bloodthirstiness, something that Michael was not exactly fond of.

    • However, it all changed when they came across the Epicenter. When he was fiddling with some kind of technology when nobody was looking, nanomachines merged with his right arm. Whether it was for vengeance or just because Eric was on the way, nobody knows. All that is known is that he exploded Eric to cribs with this technology, along with anyone who disapproved of his rule. With that, he reformed the crew into something more of a cult of personality revolving around him. To give more detail, they all began to worship firepower as their new master, and some even view Michael as a Messiah of sorts: the one that will grant everyone the joy of firepower. As such, they’re now on a journey to teach everyone how fun explosions are.

  • Vessel: Beautiful Bomb is a sturdy brigate covered with metal that is strong against explosions. There are 10 canons, five of them plasma. Its engine is self-perpetuating, and the ship itself is self-repairing to a degree (it can only fix minor damages, though). Also, the statue of a woman in front of the ship can fire lasers from her eyes. It can even talk.

  • Name: William "Gale" Weatherford
  • Age: 30
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: Here he is! He stands at a proud 6'0" and weighs 150 lbs.
  • Personality: William is a polite and charming ladies' man who likes to engage in dramatics. Overall, he's the classical dashing swashbuckler, but who isn't these days? He has his head screwed on tightly, which may come across as surprising given his thrill-seeking ways, but he does care for his crew immensely and takes pains in order to cause as little casualties as possible in combat.
  • Abilities:
    • Mechanical Legs: William has obtained hydraulic systems and thrusters in his legs due to his encounter with the Epicenter. These enhance his leg strength significantly, help him run faster, and even hover/glide in the case of the thrusters. The thrusters can be retracted and can even be transformed for use as heel-mounted guns.
    • Sky-Scanning Eyes: William's eyes have turned into scanners, capable of analyzing the skies for the purposes of navigation and weather forecasting. His previously brown eyes have turned bright blue and camera-like, including an aperture in the center.
    • Charmer: His quick smile and smooth mannerisms have earned him many an ally over the years. This helps him fool guards, unnerve enemies, and best of all, score dates.
    • Erudition: William's education as a nobleman's son gives him knowledge on a lot of general subjects. Although he considered his lessons useless and boring before, he sure doesn't now. Having gotten swordfighting and shooting lessons as a child was also a nice bonus.
  • Weapons:
    • Cutlass: This cutlass is made from the same alloy as Marysa's cutlass. However, it's silver, not black.
    • Ion Musket: This ornate rifle can fire ion beams that can blast rocks into smithereens and melt metal. It looks like this.
  • Background:
    • William was a typical nobleman's son, up until his teenage years, when his troublemaking, mischievous manner got him into trouble with his parents again and again. Finally, having gotten fed up with his family's stick-in-the-mud qualities, he ran away to work as a captain with some forged documents.
    • Finding the taxes on some commodities (especially rum) too onerous to stand, he became a smuggler plying his trade in all sorts of places. He's made a name for himself as "the gale which is never seen" and has helped out Marysa by smuggling slaves to freedom on a few occasions. The two have become steadfast friends.
    • With the upgrades gained from the Epicenter, he's become bolder and more willing to take risks in his smuggling. However, he's still careful enough to not catch his death. There's a hefty bounty on his head and Marysa's, so they'd both better be careful in future endeavors.
  • Vessel: The Zephyr is William's faithful schooner, which has gotten 16 ion cannons, a self-perpetuating engine, light armor with a minor infusion of repair nanites, turbo boosters, and cloaking technology out of its encounter with the Epicenter. The cloaking system is William's favorite by far, since it lets him sneak up on would-be-attackers and get past customs declarations more easily. It usually flies a solid purple flag (the color of William's favorite coat). While doing various smuggling operations, it flies false flags.

  • Name: "Nameless" Jennat
  • Age: 35
  • Gender: F
  • Appearance: Huge in every sense of the word and horribly dangerous and super shredded, Nameless Jennat stands at 6'5.
  • Personality: Jennat is really serious about building a coalition and being a pleasurable person to be around. She runs her ship like a restaurant manager and she tries to run the odds on someone's connections to someone else every time she starts talking to them. She always has the East India Company's presence hanging in her head and she believes that pirates, united together regardless of their differences, are going to save the world from the tyrants in the making on the horizon. One of the only things that will actually get her to abandon reason is when she has a good chance at messing up the East India Company, who are going down now that she has the manpower and hardware to do it. She refuses to keep a last name out of the belief that even a family is too factional for a great unifier like herself.
  • Abilities:
    • Jennat's a good businesswoman and an administrator. She already ran the family books but she's built herself up into just knowing how to administer the bar, parties, and concerts her ship regularly hosts. This also means she knows how to command and lead real troops into battle, though not like a real admiral or anything.
    • Jennat was exposed to the energies of the Epicenter for days on end before finding a vessel she could escape it with, and her body does, slowly, knit itself back together over time. She was already extremely strong, but that has mutated into superhuman strength.
    • Jennat can fight. She's a wild mess with her anchor, but she made her own fighting style and leverages her uniqueness where actual quality can fail her.
  • Weapons:
    • The Weight is a heavily modified anchor with a short chain at the end often hooked to Jennat's belt. One lever on the crossbar flips the end open into a blade when necessary, a second sends a string across from one end of the hook to the other to turn it into a man-portable ballista, and a third activates an electromagnet in the head, the direction determining whether it has a positive or negative charge to propel herself towards or away from other sources of magnetism.
  • Background: Jennat was a first mate on an important mission from India. Her family were dockworkers and haulers, and up till now she had grown up in India content to keep her head down and work with her eye on the horizon. The East India Company had her country ground underfoot, and her captain, Aagyakar, was one of many Indian nationalists who had discarded their surnames to unite in pan-religious and pan-ethnic solidarity against the Company. He offered her a spot on The (first) Butcherbird as a representative of the workers in India, as different from the seasoned sailors and marines. The crew knew about the Epicenter, and the expedition was doomed from the start—a mole from the East India Company was aboard, and as they started plundering the Epicenter for whatever they could get their hands on disaster struck. The crew were slaughtered and shelled to shit with East India Company, and Jennat, to the best of her belief, was left adrift floating on a solar sail with a bundle of plans, cash, and hardware. With her Epicenter plunder, meager as it was, she was able to first start up a small bar sporting electrical power, then throw that bar into the ocean on some motors, then finally hit the waves bent on uniting Piratekind and save the civilized world.
  • Vessel: The Butcherbird is a slow porcupine of a dreadnought that harnesses magnets on a grand scale, built from the ground up to use """modern""" equipment. It has one fewer floor than usual by cutting out a rowing gallery and propels itself on a pair of electric motors. A capacitor in the hold runs from there up one floor to a humble battery of four coilguns on each side, and through the rest of the ship as well. The boat itself is painted in a lot of warm orange and yellow hues, and Jennat has turned the top decks into a sort of pleasure barge with electric lamps and speakers that can play live music. The ship's sails are actually solar panels, and help charge the generator to power all these luxuries. Jennat's private room in the forecastle is a luxurious suite, but even the common crew bunks are segregated into separate rooms to keep the ship running well, almost like a hotel. The same electromagnet that charges The Racks and the coilguns' filings is also available to magnetize whatever else you might need.
    • The Butcherbird's weapons are weird and operate on a fairly rigid combat doctrine. The coilguns have a very compact ammunition payload of highly magnetized metal filings, and they fire in widely scattered blasts at extreme velocities. On the other hand, the files are so extremely small, dispersed, and light that while they'll embed themselves in the hull of a ship they're unlikely to do any real damage to anyone who isn't literally naked. The thing is that then The Butcherbird deploys The Racks, huge 45 foot long ramming spikes rigged with high-power electromagnets that drag the ship on a collision course at a speed far greater than its normal cruising speed; the more files are stuck in the ship, the more absurdly fast this charge can pull The Butcherbird to her target. This specialized strategy comes with the problem that that initial ram is followed up by a small crew that's at least 60% support and logistics, and anything far away has to be dealt with by Jennat firing rebar out of The Weight.

  • Name: “Admiral” Aliane d’Attrisée, the Ace of Swords, the Sable Lady
  • Age: 24
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: A tan-skinned woman with long brown hair usually pulled back into a ponytail. Wears glasses, concealing storm-grey eyes. She can make her glasses have mirrored lenses if she wants to, for intimidation purposes, or to eliminate glare on the horizon. When on a ship, she can usually be found wearing something resembling a uniform (as can her crew. She likes to sell the image that they’re professional mercenaries), complete with a long, black, white, and gold coat and fancy hat. When not, she generally prefers to wear dresses, if for no other reason than everybody expects you to pull a gun from under your coat, where nobody expects it from under your dress.
  • Personality:Aliane is a snarky, flirtatious woman who subscribes to the idea of “be polite, be professional, and have a plan to kill everyone you meet,” especially when most of the people you’re meeting with are probably planning to kill you, too, if only to get out of whatever agreement you’re making right after it becomes non-beneficial to them.
  • Abilities:
    • Keen Mind: Aliane is well educated and well-versed in both naval and infantry tactics and strategy, as a result of her father excelling at both. Her education therein was… cut off slightly by her father being killed in a duel, but she’s not someone to be taken lightly.
    • Marksman: She’s a crack shot with a gun, which has just become even more absurd now that she’s discovered things like “rifling,” “magnetically-accelerated bullets (whatever that means),” “scopes,” and “auto-compensating targeting VIs.” She’s ended more than one engagement by simply putting a bullet through the other captain’s brain.
    • Cybernetic enhancement. Her right arm and both legs have both been replaced by cybernetics, and her arm features a concealed blade and pistol, both of which she can produce with little time. The pistol is rather weak and the blade is just a long knife, so she prefers to have other hidden weapons she can call on first.
  • Weapons:
    • The weapon she’s taken to using most is a rather large man-portable railgun, which is damn near powerful enough to hole a ship on its own (not a very big hole, mind you, but). It comes with a built-in, and incredibly helpful yet terribly sarcastic VI which Aliane calls Tanith.
    • Her other primary weapon is a sabre that she can activate to cause the blade to burn at approximately thermite temperatures. The guard has some sort of force field around it to prevent it from burning her, but that doesn’t extend to other nearby objects. Or people.
    • She also carries three hidden weapons on her person: One of them is a small laser in her glasses, another is a two-pronged tuning fork-looking object that she can charge with electricity, and either stab someone with or fire the prongs at someone to tase them, and the final one is a dagger that has a pistol set along the blade.
  • Background: Aliane is not terribly famous for her own exploits, yet, though she’d very much like to change that, but mostly famous for her father, formerly a leader of a famous mercenary company, deciding “Hey, what if we took to being mercenaries on the ocean insead?” and subsequently realized that we call that privateering. He turned out to be frighteningly good at it, too, before unceremoniously dying in a duel against some petty noble, dumping command of his fleet in Aliane’s lap. Most of which then dispersed, though she keeps in contact with all of them. At this point, she’s mostly riding on her father’s coattails until she can build up a reputation of her own.
  • Vessel: The Final Reply started (and still is) as a ship toeing the line between ‘frigate’ and ‘ship of the line,’ originally carrying a complement of 50 guns on two decks with a further 12 swivel-guns mounted on the topdeck, and a sturdy construction built to take punishment. Her father cut the number of broadside guns to 40, freeing space for more cargo and supplies. In the Epicenter’s aftermath, the Final Reply has had those guns replaced with 32 railguns, each mounted on a 20-degree swivel, allowing for some amount of tracking without moving the actual ship, and the swivel-guns with 8 plasma turrets. The ship has gotten a, frankly, absurd amount of armor, and enough engine power from a self-perpetuating engine such that it can move at something approaching a decent clip, though it doesn’t exactly start, stop, or corner particularly well. Rumors are abound (and she certainly claims) that Aliane has another ship, but… nobody’s ever seen it. It’s probably just a bluff, right?

  • Name: Dave "The Reaper" Williams
  • Age: 25
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: Dave is a scruffy, yet charming captain with short black hair and a small goatee. Standing at 5'11, Dave is of an average build, the only difference being the metal that looks like it's infecting his left arm, and has taken over the hand. He often wears a long, flowing coat, but beyond that he wears relatively simple clothing for a relatively well-known pirate captain.
  • Personality: Dave is the kind of guy who is nice to his friends, nicer to his rivals... until they make the wrong move. Then he is a quick and efficient handler of death. And then he whiplashes right back to his nice personality, a fearful sight that can only compared to that of an angry parent talking on the phone to a friend. He is secure about almost everything, but he's never truly had a sense of belonging on the seven seas due to his overly kind nature.
  • Abilities:
    • Scythe Mastery: His namesake skill, Dave's melee weapon proficiency isn't swords, like the rest of the sailors of the seas, but scythes. Whether small or large, he is arguably more deadly than the finest sword users in the world with a scythe.
    • Trick Shot: Dave is good enough at firing straight, but his specialty is setting up crazy stuff: bending shots, ricochets, firing through incredibly small spaces, et cetera.
    • Grey Left Hand: Dave was previously infected with Cybrosis, an infection due to excess radiation from the Epicentre. While he was cured, the infected area, his left hand and parts of his left arm, never fully recovered. As such, the arm is nigh-indestructible, harder than most natural metals, and can absorb energy, which it can redirect for its own purposes.
  • Weapons:
    • Reaper's Crescent: Dave's large scythe, it sports adjustable length, made out of materials from the Epicentre, and can fold into a neat carry-size, which still has a part of it on the outside for covert and unique murder-ness.
    • Gunmetal and Pearl: Dave's dual pistols, which fire hollow-tip rounds not from a normal barrel, but from something similar to a railgun.
  • Background:
    • Dave became a pirate captain about 3 months before the Epicentre incident, and initially had fun just escaping from his boring life before. He sailed the seas, found treasure, did all the normie stuff.
    • Then, the E P I C E N T R E happened, and everything changed. He was close enough to actually see the landing of the meteor, but he was still some 30 clicks out from the landing spot. He immediately headed off to the Epicentre, drudging for things both for himself and his ship, but he spent so much time in there he caught cybrosis.
    • He got everything he wanted and sailed outward when he noticed that his pointer and middle fingers were now made of a gunmetal grey metal with pink highlights. He immediately looked for a doctor, but even when he found one, they had no idea what the mysterious disease was.
    • As time went on and medicine improved, one doctor he found finally identified the disease: It was cybrosis, a disease that slowly turns your body into metal. It was initially beneficial, but if it had reached the organs, it would have killed him. They gave him an antidote and he went on his merry way.
    • And here he is now. He is currently sailing the seas, doing all the stuff he did before, but with the bounty from the Epicentre augmenting himself and his crew.
  • Vessel: The Red Dawn is a schooner of decent size, capable of holding his crew and a couple of extras, just in case. It is augmented with repeater cannons on the sides, and a spread cannon on the front, which fires 8 large bolts in a cone-like fashion and one cannonball straight ahead. It also has an engine that allows it to sail at about 20 miles per hour. It flies a typical black pirate flag, but with crossing scythes instead of swords.

Name: §wÆßßÝ, nickname: Swabby

Age: 39 Standard Galactic Years

Gender: Technically none, but Swabby tends to identify as male.

Appearance: Four feet tall with no hair, gray skin, and large black eyes. Nasal slits but no external nose, ears, or genitalia. (Example Image)

Wears human clothes and a 'pirate hat' he made from a page of his Glorpox Regulations manual. The hat looks like it was made from paper but is practically immune to water, fire, or any other environmental hazard.

Personality: Eager to please, with a strong desire to do things by the book (if only he could find a book that covers his situation). Very literal and honestly believes he is doing a great job of blending in as an 'ordinary Earth being'.

Abilities: A member of an advanced alien species, Swabby's race have genetically engineered themselves to the point where Swabby can function in a variety of environments with no discomfort, even able to survive deep underwater or in a vacuum for up to an hour. His eyes instantly adjust to almost any lighting condition and have an extreme focal length, to be able to see what a normal human would need a high power telescope or magnifying glass to duplicate. He can digest almost anything, even substances humans would find toxic (He can not only taste but actually enjoys Iocane Powder in his food) but dislikes the taste of alcohol and will actually get sick if he accidentally drinks too much. His other senses are approximately human normal. He can regenerate lost body parts but it requires time and massive quantities of food (a finger takes a few days, a hand would take several weeks, an arm might take months).

He has an extensive knowledge of how the alien technology is supposed to work(since it was created by his species) but is baffled by the fact that the technology seems to be evolving and changing the more it comes in contact with humans. He is capable of learning at an accelerated rate (he learned the basics of English in just a few hours) but a consequence of his learning rate is that he is very literal and rarely questions anything he is told by a superior.

Weapons: A cutlass (which he barely knows how to use. Thank Zorlax for regenerating fingers), a multi-function portable scanner (Not a weapon but very useful for detecting weapons), and a shock pistol.

Background: §wÆßßÝ was 317th in rank of a crew of 318 when his ship crashed on Earth. §wÆßßÝ believes he is the last remaining member of his ship's crew and has decided to try to pretend to be human rather then reporting to his homeworld and possibly being blamed for the crash.

Vessel: §wÆßßÝ will happily work for any captain who is willing to have him onboard. §wÆßßÝ can maintain or repair alien technology to the level it SHOULD be at, but his efforts to maintain/repair alien technology that has spent prolonged time with humans is erratic. Alien tech that has bonded to humans or with human equipment usually leaves §wÆßßÝ complaining that 'It shouldn't work like that' and bemoaning the fact that there is not a single can of Vruccan Slug Juice on the entire planet.

Sorry to say but the RP has ground to a halt by now. I was actually considering locking it off. Sorry to disappoint!
