Tactical Rock–Paper–Scissors covers everything you said, ~Memers. TRPS is any situation where combat grants a conditional advantage to different tactics/abilities.

Your Sub-Trope proposals to TRPS sound reasonably developed, but they do not impact the Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors problems. Please take them to TLP to prevent other issues from detracting from the idea.

Huh, the trope doesn't have to be cyclical. I thought the idea was just elements have weaknesses and strengths over others. Even the Laconic doesn't have that "cyclical" nature.

With that said yeah many entries there just put "elements exist" without showing form of relationship.

[up] Thats the problem. The rock paper scissors nature of say Pokemon is a distinct trope to a more general strengths and weaknesses trope.

[up][up] Not to mention that Tactical Rock–Paper–Scissors outright calls this trope its elemental counterpart. Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors used to follow the rps rule, but we're now at the point where it's misused that badly.

[up][up][up] Agreed, does the trope have to be cyclical? I wouldn't think so. That sounds like unnecessarily restricting it. And I don't think they're separate tropes.
