Ambiguous Name: Transsexual

The trope name is ambiguous at best and wrong at worst and should be replaced by Transgender since everything except for the title is replaced alrady.

Reasons:

1) The page itself constantly refers to transgender and notes internally that Transsexual is a deprecated term that does not cover all that the trope encompasses. So does Useful Notes/Transgender, which already uses the other term as its title.

2) There are several discussions on Transsexual's discussion page where relatively little support appears to be provided for keeping the old name while multiple actual transgender persons confirm that the term is offensive to them. (In fact, the discussion page has 20 posts that are not about the topic of renaming the page while the remaining 40 are. <- EDIT: 49 by now)

3) Pages like Medical Daily, GLAAD and Wikipedia confirm that transsexual is often understood to refer only to a subset of transgender people. Even the ICD-11 will remove the term and replace it with a more umbrella "gender incongruence".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transsexual ("Transsexual is generally considered a subset of transgender" "By the 1990s, transsexual had come to be considered a subset of the umbrella term transgender.[1][2][3] The term transgender is now more common, and many transgender people prefer the designation transgender and reject transsexual.")

http://www.medicaldaily.com/what-difference-between-transsexual-and-transgender-facebooks-new-version-its-complicated-271389 ("Transgender, unlike transsexual, is a term for people whose identity, expression, behavior, or general sense of self does not conform to what is usually associated with the sex they were born in the place they were born.")

https://www.glaad.org/reference/transgender ("Unlike transgender, transsexual is not an umbrella term. Many transgender people do not identify as transsexual and prefer the word transgender.")

4) While Transsexual has generated some traffic for the site, it is highly likely that the traffic by Transgender would outweigh it. Compare the two terms in Google trends, with Transgender outweighing Transsexual nearly 10:1: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%205-y&q=Transgender,Transsexual

5) Replacing links in 1100 pages would certainly be a daunting task, yet since Transsexual can easily remain a redirect, it would not need to be undertaken all at once. In addition, note that even in this very wiki, there are already 270 pages related to Transgender.

All in all, the obvious counter to the renaming is that the overhaul would be massive, to which I'd reply: The overhaul is already happening. The page itself already uses the new term everywhere except for the headline, and one fifth of all related pages prefer to use something that is only an alternative title. The only thing holding this back from happening on its own is the administrative rule regarding name changes.

Closing as a low priority/high effort job; see the pinned thread.
