Dark Moonkin:

Dark Moonkin are one of the two main societies that are under the umbrella of "Moonkin". They are called Dark Moonkin because they habituated in a "Dark Hemisphere". Dark Hemisphere is not really a dark place, contrary to what the name might imply. It is called liek that because Dark Moonkin refused to accept Light Moonkin's religion. Dark Moonkin call themselves "Enlightened Moonkin" and their area "Western Hemisphere".

Dark Hemisphere is a very subtly dangerous place: without careful analysis and evaluation, one would easily die by a copper organic lifeform or scorpion-crocodiles with camouflages. As such, residents of this hemisphere developed far greater sense than their Light counterparts. Along with that, these Moonkin found affinity in studying everything, as in, everything around them, including how much elinus (equivalent to oxygen) changes for a second.

Eventually, they formed a technocracy: their leader is a Enlightened Monarch, the most intelligent and the most knowledgeable of them all. The more information these Moonkin have, the higher position they get. As a result, Dark Moonkin mad scientists are mostly of lower class, desperate to get promoted. That said, some of the higher class one are also mad scientists. The least intelligent ones or ones who don't have enough knowledge are considered as slaves or meat shields used in conflict. However, one shall not underestimate them in war, as they make up whatever weakness they have with advanced technology and biological components that enhance physical capabilities.

Their architecture might remind humans and Xemans of trees and other plants. They are, in fact, products of advanced technology. Due to this, what once was a barren wasteland turned into a lush green forest(?). Despite the first impressions, they are incredibly wary of nature as a whole, connected to their origin. There are, of course, Moonkin who advocate environmentalism, but they are treated worse than human hippies.

Their currency is a Data Chip, an item that contains various information of everything natural. Changes in atmosphere, decomposing process of a lifeform and all such things. Recordings of a body change is considered as one of the types of... materials that only adults can enjoy.

Their art, literature and music veers towards realism: closer to real life they are, more critical acclaim they'll get. Hey, they do enjoy some art. Of course, tools that are used to make these arts are different from human ones.

They look like Night Elves in terms of appearance, except less ridiculously pointy ears and Tron Lines that represent information they stored. More brightly they shine, more information they have.

Dark Moonkin look at other races as if they're not intelligent enough, but they're not that upfront about it, so don't expect that much smugness. They view themselves just like how humans see themselves: superior race other all others (To be fair, Light Moonkin also have this sense of superiority, but it's a different kind).

One of the worst sins for Dark Moonkin are dishonesty and misinformation. Honesty is important for them, because last time dishonesty cost half of Dark Moonkin's population due to the outbreak (essentially, one Moonkin accidentally created a disease, but, afraid of punishment, tried to hide it away from everyone.... to disastrous results.) Not admitting one's own mistakes is will draw ire of these people.

Dark Moonkin first came to Althrenia via science expedition. Then they built a civilization with only the material they had (and tweaking materials of Althrenia) in a land that was disputed by many to be their own.

Race: The Taur

Description: The Taur resemble muscular humanoids, with the four legs of a variety of quadrupeds below starting just below the belly button. While at first they might resemble humans, at closer glance there are several differences: Taur have only four fingers on their hands, their eyes are generally of a solid color and all of them have a thin ridge of hair along their spines. Skin color is of the same variety as that of humans.

Species History: The Taur actually have several distinct varieties, and it is this difference that forms the backbone of their society. Your job is generally determined by what your back half grows to be, and very few manage to cross these social lines. There’s very little conflict between them, however, as the Taur have adopted an “us against the world” attitude, and the merchants and farmers tend to keep the other two groups in line. Taur society is largely based around the idea of “exceptionality”-do whatever you can to the best of your ability, be it fighting, science, making money, and if someone comes up with an idea that’s better, work until you have over topped them. These competitions are usually friendly and seen as making the group as a whole better, though grudges and bitter rivalries are not unheard of. In these cases, the parties involved are encouraged to fight it out between them.

So far, five different types have been seen:

Chargers: The strong, but nimble warhorses. They have the shortest tempers and best tactical minds. Built for long-distance running and stamina, they enjoy competition and learning new ways to fight. For example, once one of them learned to shoot arrows, nothing more could be done until someone had bested him. Usually serve as heavy cavalry, and there are very few armies that would care to go up against them in the open field. Often hired as mercenaries for their discipline, speed, and the fact that they won’t commit crimes against enemy civilians. However, they likewise will not fight their own-there’s too few to go killing each other, so if both sides hire warhorses, expect to see them all just collect their pay and go home. Sometimes a “horned one” (a deer, elk or more commonly a bull) will join them, and if he can pull his weight he’s accepted.

Messengers: The slim, speedy racers, sporting and proud of their small horns. Work as messengers or scouts. A little ditzy. They prefer to run and do guerilla attacks if fighting instead of holding the line. Elk and deer Taur are part of this family. Racers are more likely to hire out as mounts than other types, but they will usually have a warhorse friend around to prevent anyone trying to “permanently hire” their services. Racers are also the most likely to flirt with other species, usually just for fun.

Merchants: Ponies, goats and donkeys are smart and sensible (though don’t call it “horse sense” unless you know them really well or you’ll be in some trouble). Not at strong as warhorses or workers, or fast as the racers, they’re surefooted and steady. If there’s a settler or explorer (though all Taur have an innate curiosity about what’s over the next hill) it will be one of these folks. Also, the main source of diplomats, healers and magic-users, as well as the overall strategic thinkers.

A rarer subgroup is the bullmen-they sport small horns and are larger than the merchants or messengers, but are more built for strength rather than speed. They can join any of the groups, either as reinforcements or labor. If any group of the Taur are treated as oddities, it’s them, though it’s more of a “you’re cousins rather than brothers.”

On the whole the Taur are a sane, sensible group. They take their status as Godless as a point of pride (“No God has claimed us and so we claim no God”) and are pretty open about their apparent status as a magical creation, though there’s no real hunger to explore possible sources of that creation, and missionaries, attempts to convert them, or anyone who wants to discover their origins are met with polite disinterest and a slightly condescending attitude. The Taurs commonly take up professions such messengers, frontier guards, law enforcement/bounty hunting, guides and travel services and are relatively common on other worlds. Their level of technology is at about the 1800’s with the exception of vehicles-why ride when you can run? Guns are relatively common, but disliked, simply because they take away from the joy of physical combat given their physical strength, though merchants and messengers will often carry a small pistol as an emergency weapon.

Tupha-Ma'un

A world that's ruled by storms, and mountains are all that can be seen as far as the eyes can go, Courma is a dangerous place for the unprepared. The sky continuously unleashes its fury over the people living there, with wind, lightning and snow are constant threats. But life always finds a way. Special plants and animals, able to absorb that power, moss glowing with electricity, trees able to neutralize the wind and creatures able to unleash a freezing gust, among other things.

The major sentient species is called the Birālō, cat-like people, able to use powerful nature-based magic, and live in the inside of the mountains, making an extensive tunnel network all around the different regions. They are omnivores, but due to religious reasons, many are vegetarian, managing to grow strange, bio-luminescent crops on their hiding places. Physically, rather lean and light, not too much taller than humans, but able to climb without equipment and have retractable claws, with agility and senses strengthened to deal with the underground as easily as they would with a clear sky.

Windmills and lightning rods are the bigger signs of civilization seen from the outside, and thus they are given a strong source of clean energy for them to get most machines working, but given the issues with the underground living and the constant stormy weather, the main method of communication are special magical mirrors that work as phones. Bigger are more potent ones can work to broadcast content to all people. There is work done to start truly recording their works, so they mostly enjoy the works of other worlds.

Their government is basically a constitutional monarchy, the Rājā, the king, is in charge of the greater policies, and decides the relations with other worlds, and the Sīnēṭa deal with the day to day matters, including deciding over the recourse distribution. There is also a group of Mantrī to assist both of them while dealing with specific topics.

The biggest religion is very similar to Buddhism, trying to teach each generation discipline, patience, wisdom and a modest living (it's got mixed results). The practice of martial arts is widespread, along with the use of magic, wielding the power of lightning, wind and ice to deal with any threat that appears, even if they are pacifistic, don't mess with one if you like your face.

Weapons involve cannons, storm grenades, lightning guns and freezing liquid. A favorite ride is a Kin, a wyvern with elemental powers and a nasty temper. Taming one can only be done by someone learned in the subject. There are also rails all around a settlement, which a jeweled train runs through.

Wake me up at your own risk.

Not really into Thornwood, so here’s a new planet.

Concept: Ankathi

The population of Ankathi is primarily made up of semi-nomadic peoples. During the summer seasons, they reside in the Heartlands, where they plant and harvest crops. During the winter seasons, they live near the oceans, where they hunt, fish, and gather.

  • Instead of horses (which don’t exist on this planet), the Ankathians ride domesticated dinosaurs and use them for animal labor and an occasional food source.

  • Approximately five hundred years ago, one of the tribes, the Myriae, began building permanent settlements in the Heartlands, using magic to grow crops during the colder seasons. Today, they reside in Myris, a great walled city.

  • Other major tribes include the Boriae (who ride pterodactyls), the Tertiae (who ride triceratops), and the Tachytitae (who ride velociraptors). There are approximately two hundred tribes in total.

To be updated as I come up with more ideas.

The Morun Establishment.

A group of interplanetary individuals whose job is odd jobs. They specialize in security and hunting dangerous beasts or even criminals, depending on the planet. Of course, there are such things as Morun medics, engineers, and even architects. Morun encompasses a lot of things. Their original and most populous branch is the security branch, with hunting coming in at a close second. There is not a certain uniform, as they accept individuals of any shape, size, or species. They have also specialized more in magic than technology and tend to be a superstitious bunch.

The Morun Establishment have had a part in many events throughout time and have always had opposition, and more recently that opposition has taken the form of the Cult in Yellow. While the Cult considers themselves above the Establishment and generally outperforms them on an individual basis, the Establishment has a habit of stealing technology from Cult operatives and outnumber them by quite a bit. The Cult, of course, is more guerilla than the Establishment.

The Morun Establishment is responsible for the slaying of many a dangerous beast, including Eye of Kincaid, Holy Man's Bane, Carosi of Many Souls, and the Carcass of Ander. The hunting division also hunts down criminals on planets who have laws that allow it. The security division is more tame, securing areas and keeping out trespassers, though considering some of the clientele for the Establishment, this can be more dangerous than hunting at certain times.

Their members are very informal, and the Establishment is generally kept together by council, though there is an appointed leader (currently the council head is Sin Tone, a powerful sonic mage). Their various members vary in skill and popularity, though a few security and hunting individuals and teams are very well known. Examples include the Southerly Gang, run by Alex, an undead teenager who specializes in fire magic; Team Target, a tech-specialized gang run by Headshot; Tower Four, a slow but sturdy security gang run by Kaid; and the Slashers, run by Spinebreaker, whose name says about him what is necessary.

Light Moonkin:

Light Moonkin are another subspecies of Moonkin, living in a place they call "Light Hemisphere" (Dark Moonkin call it "East Hemisphere"). Light Moonkin is the name they gave themselves due to their religion, Ueranan (translates to "Sunism"). Dark ones call them "Fanatical Kind" as a result.

These Moonkin, as stated above, follow the religion that revolves around the Sun. According to their text, Ueran Nashi (Text of the Sun, written in ancient Moonkin language and translated into modern language), their god Ueran gave birth to everything in the universe. Only by being blessed by it (i.e. becoming a member of Ueranan) can a person be one with it and achieve peace. Light Moonkin were special because, according to the text, it was their job to spread this religion, whether peacefully or forcefully.

Now, what does Ueranaians need to do? It's simple, really. Have fun.

Now, some might think of religious being chaste, calm and modest. Well, they are the exact opposite, indulging in fun, parties and a certain biological process. Consequently, Light Moonkin are required to be boisterous and loud. Their relatively nicer environment also helped form this hedonistic culture. Light Moonkin are very open people... in more than one ways.

Their form of government is a theocracy, of course, but it's also a democratic theocracy. People who their Pope... I mean, Uerani (literally "God's") should be based on his understanding of the Ueran Nashi. Under Ueran Nashi, everyone is fair (though it's also emphasized that Ueran Nashi is inherently not better than the people they lead).

Light Moonkin architecture mainly consists of a crystal-like material native to their planet. The reason they use it is because it can absorb sunlight then emit it. Their currency is also made of this, though these are slightly different materials.

Their art is more extravagant, full of dynamics and color. Light Moonkin loathe bad endings and depressive stories, although sometimes they can be appreciated.

Against other races and species, Light Moonkin secretly wage "War that will end all wars". It is essentially a total conversion of everything into their religion. Light Moonkin are infamous for childlike delight that they display during bloody battles.

Their worst sin is being a killjoy and generally ruin the mood. That is why they're not being elitist with their culture, instead attempting to persuade their future comrades. Being depressive or not liking the "rituals" is considered a mental illness for them.

Light Moonkin of Althrenia were emissaries/warriors. Successfully managing to convert one settlement to Ueranan, they progressively built a government that could stand on its own.

Concept: The Tachytitae

The Tachytitae are one of the largest of the nomadic tribes of Ankathi. They ride domesticated hypsilophodons.

As with most Ankathi tribes, they subsist by herding aurochs and mouflons (the main measure of wealth and power is how many animals one owns) and hunting animals like nondomesticated dinosaurs, nuralagus rexes, and megatheriums.

During the summer seasons, they live on the Heartlands, and during the winter seasons, they live near the oceans of Ankathi.

Clothing wise, they primarily wear long-sleeved open tunics over padded and quilted leather trousers, which are tucked into boots. Hats are also popular, often high hats with flaps over the ears and the nape of the neck, and belts are commonly worn for practical reasons. In battle, they and their velociraptors wear light chainmail armor. Their main weapons are spears, bows and arrows, and wrist-mounted blades. Culturally, the Tachytitae have long traditions of oral storytelling and athletic competitions.

The Tachytitae have been at war with the Myriae on and off since Myris started expanding into Tachytitae territory. Matters have only gotten worse in recent years: a marriage between a Myriae politician and a Tachytitae queen ended badly when the former had the latter imprisoned to marry someone else. She escaped, and has since begun cultivating alliances with other tribes and leading raids on Myris.

Denriaul

Nobody really remembers.

The tarnished and blackened jewel of The Cluster, once a shining beacon of miraculous sorcery and advanced technology. They were the wielders, and keepers, of many great secrets. They horded their power and knowledge like a miser and in that time long forgotten, though many benefited from Denriaul's treasure trove, they were as beholden to it as any are to a far more affluent neighbor.

And they grew proud.

Their great intellect was born from a cultural curiosity, a need to experiment and push the boundaries of the known. The whole of the world was an enormous laboratory given over to constant discovery and application. As their success grew, so did their reckless abandon.

Nothing lives on that rock anymore.

Nothing that should be alive, anyway.

The planet is now dotted with strange sights and phenomenon. Some of these are remnants of the wrath the force that extinguished the planet. Others are those ancient denriaulite experiments now let loose. And then there are the examples of where it's a little bit of both.

Many entrepeneuring explorers descend on this world to mine its secrets. Some even succeed, and garner fame and fortune. Most don't.

Example Of Sights To See On Denriaul:

  • An eighth of the planet's surface is covered in the slowly rotting carcass of a massive behemoth.
  • An enormous city-sized hole that seems to go down forever. Out of it emerges colossal stone hands that reach up to the sky. Mapped and proportioned, each hand apparently has a match with another, except for lone left hand by itself. There are 6 right hands and 7 left.
  • An empty city with it citizenry lines up in neat little rows right outside of it, each of them standing at attention and frozen in time, as if waiting to be placed inside.
  • An underground cavern with an enormous eyeball frozen in a block of ice, suspended by a single length of chain spun all around the rock formation and covered in paper seals.

Agents

Agents are Eldritch Abominations created by an advanced alien species that are found on every celestial body where sentient life exists. The goal of an agent is to protect all being who originate from the object it is suppose to represent from alien threats, as well as be the preserver on all the data and knowledge that has or currently exist on the planet. To the denizens of said body, the agent is completely harmless, even if said denizen is of a species that actively harms other species found on the planet. Having no will of its own, the agents would not activate unless the life of those it is suppose to protect are threatened by a foreign threat, and will not communicate with any of the denizens unless necessary.

The agents can be found in every living being on the planet, hidden within their bodies until needed. When activated, it would instantly form a protective shell around its host and fend of alien threats. The agents have access to all knowledge that has ever been discovered on the planet, such as technology, languages, medicine and magic, and manipulate its body to use them. For example, agents of Earth can create nuclear weapons or penicillin, as well as speak dead languages and use any kind of spells. However, agents are bounded by the knowledge it has access to. When the dinosaurs went extinct, it was unable to prevent the meteor due to the lack of any way to destroy it.

This is not a flaw in its design, as the agents are supposed to test whether or not the life on the planet would be able to defend itself if given the most ideal situation they can possibly have, having no limits in resources and united under the sole purpose of survival. If they can't, the agents will simply leave after all life dies out and return to the aliens, with all the data stored inside.

Denriaul is approve.

About the Agents: I like the concepts but a) if they exist inside every sentient being, does it mean that every time there's conflicts between planets, they have intervened? Is their existence known then? Also, I don't think the existence of Earth in this setting has been established yet (not that I would mind, but I would like details- this goes out to everyone.)

And hey, here's another race from me! This one is more familiar:

Race: Gnomes

Gnomes resemble small, wizened humans (they are often mistaken for old people.) They are rather cranky; they tend to be hermits.

On the other hand, they have a natural talent for technology- thought their devices are odd (think Steampunk.) They have created everything from clockwork automatons to alchemy to zeppelins.

Note: Gnomes insist they have nothing to do with Giant Space Hamsters, if such things even exist. They don't appreciate jokes about it! [lol]

On second thought, having agents be in every interplanetary conflict is kind of limiting. Change it to only appearing to extinction level threat. As for knowledge of their existence, nothing can detect them unless they have even more advanced technology, and they have memory erasing abilities.

Al Vred

A primarily forest planet with very few native lifeforms, it is now populated by various immigrants from other worlds and beast races created by some biomancer who lived on Al Vred ages ago. The natives, a race called the sulveri, had very little competition, being one of the few animal species on the otherwise plant-filled planet. Somehow, though, their numbers have been kept in check and they have a relatively small population. They claim it is because the sun of their system is actually a lifeform who long ago laid eggs in the earth of Al Vred, and its children draw other lifeforms in like flies to a web. However, this has never been proven; all studies show the star, dubbed Great Silver, is merely a normal star, and no sightings of the 'star-children' have been officially reported.

Besides the huge forests of Al Vred, there are occasionally large clearings, where neighborhoods, towns, and sometimes even small cities have been established. Civilization established on Al Vred is the picture of modern urbanization; the cities are fond of skyscrapers, towns and neighborhoods are fond of suburban housing with plenty of room, and Al Vred has it's own internet capabilities and satellites in orbit to aide it. People on Al Vred tend to be peaceful and kind, mostly due to the almost ideal conditions of Al Vred for many species. Al Vred has a moderate climate that never seems to dip into too cold or too hot, the trees have many fruits compatible with many species (though some are very incompatible, so one should still take care), and the nights and days are relatively short. However, border guards, both automated and not, are required to keep the dangerous beasts of the forest from intruding on civilization. As such, new towns and such require a sizable clearing crew for the trees and minor military presence to keep the colonists safe.

Al Vred is noticeable for its security, comfort, and sense of community. The only problem they have is an unusually high disappearance rate, something attributed to the more subtle beasts of the forest. It was once said that the same biomancer who created the beasts of the forest was responsible for the spread of the forests themselves. It's said that before the biomancer came Al Vred had more varied environments, but the biomancer gave them all life in his preferred form, thus changing the world to a forest. The sulveri are the only lifeform believes truly native, and they have passed on the story of the biomancer. They sulveri are very large and strong, however, so generally could, in herds, counter the usually solitary beasts of the forest. The sulveri, while intelligent, never got around to having a technological spike in their time. They did however peacefully welcome the more advanced immigrants to their world, reasoning in that their was room for everyone and if they shared their technology with the sulveri then there would be no problems. The formerly nomadic sulveri adapted to city life pretty quickly and have ever since melded seamlessly into the population, though they still keep an oral history, superstitions, and myths from their past.

The sulveri are a large, herbivorous species, measuring on average 7 to 8 feet tall and have four arms but no legs. Instead of legs, they have a very powerful tail with which they can slither across the ground with. Their arms are used for climbing the large trees of Al Vred. They have four talons and two thumbs, one on each side. The sulveri are nicknamed 'naga' because of their more humanoid upper half and serpentine lower half. They reproduce mostly asexually; while sexual reproduction is possible, most sulveri are female and don't produce many males. The females actually have the lower voices of the two sexes and are stronger. Males tend to be treated with respect but also tend to be stereotyped as more fragile and  'fussy'. They have four eyes but no visible hearing apparatuses except for two small holes in the sides of their head. Despite their almost predatory appearance, they are still herbivores and bear mostly flattened teeth.
