I don't think that this is too dark. The setup reminds me a bit of The Child Thief, and while it is dark it isn't too dark.
I guess it would be only too dark if you were to take the Warhammer 40000 Grimdark approach while taking it entirely serious.
Life's too short for being hectic. What would be the 40K approach? It's not meant to be comedy, or did I misunderstand?
40k is so over-the-top dark that you almost can't tell whether it's parody or not. It's taken to such an unbelievable extreme that it could be parody, but it's handled super seriously.
They should have sent a poet. The thing about 40k is that it was originally made so grimdark for comedy, but then the people who grew up with it basically went from teenagers to adults and decided to take it super-seriously, so Games Workshop decided to Shoo Out the Clowns and started taking it seriously too.

Angry gets shit done.Hm, for me much of it Crosses the Line Twice, thus I took it as a parody. My bad
Life's too short for being hectic.
The idea is the following.
Besides ours, there is another world where supernatural things exist. Here lie the fairies* (Those vary a lot. From elves to faes to goblins to dwarves to...) with trolls, Fomorian and other unpleasant creatures in war. They are not very numerous, so they have started to kidnap children from our world and trained them to be (slave) warriors. Later, with the increasing number and the improvement of the situation, also for other things. The kidnapped people** are pretty much slaves, although the rights can vary from place to place. The magic of the world has an influence on them and over time they look like half elves.
Should I make the whole thing "softer"? I'm afraid it might have made things too dark (speak darkness induced apathy).
