If you want to argue about the red bucket of paint he's kicking, maybe the chicken in your suggestion deserved to be kicked and it was the morally correct option to kick it?

The context from the page helps us understand what's going on. Readers might need to think for a second before getting it, but it's pretty clear that cat-man hurt baby-bird and ma- and pa-birds are angry, and their wrath is the cat-man's punishment.
The suggestion shows us what we could already understand from the current. Hence, it is equally clear.
Though, the suggestion actually might be less clear, since we have no idea where the chickens are getting the sword and shield (and also the question of why not just attack like normal birds might).
