Basically, we all RP as various deities that have been contracted into helping a much newer and more inexperienced god create a universe. It's essentially a in-character world-building project. Anyone interested?

This sounds pretty cool! Some more information would be nice, but it certainly seems interesting.

In order to create a character for the RP, come up with a god concept and a primary and secondary domain, which can be pretty much anything as long as they're not too broad. The god you're all working for just manifested a few years ago, and he hasn't chosen either his domains or True Name yet.

I'm interested. I actually have a whole cast of Eldritch Abominations for use in my book, so I could bring one of them in. Quick question though, what do you mean by primary and secondary domain? Do you mean where they reside, or something else?

Actually, now that I think of it, are Lovecraftian entities allowed, or do we have to stick with more simplistic deities?

What are their divine powers? For example someone with a primary domain in Harvest and a secondary in Fertility. Of course you can add Eldritch Abominations! One of my major OCs who was involved in the original concept is actually an Eldritch Abomination Mad Scientist.

Alright then. How about this format? Tell me if there's anything wrong with it, I’m just making it up as an example.

  • Name: Xilantes
  • True Name: Unknown
  • Title(s) The Screamer Eternal, The Greater Warmonger
  • Description: Note: Not actually screaming eternally. His humanoid form, which acts as an avatar, takes the appearance of a completely nondescript man, expertly crafted to be forgettable so he may assassinate or fight with no ramifications.
  • Primary Domain: Bloodshed. The ability to influence created beings into war, either by causing someone to commit a violent murder of a beloved leader or to actively start wars by himself. Depending on his mood, he can be very subtle, cautiously playing Chessmaster until he gets results, or violent and brutal, going on a rampage in an attempt to quench his thirst for blood.
  • Secondary Domain: Death. Or more specifically, ownership of the dead. All those who perish in battle have the pleasure of being his trophies, while the ones who died by natural causes or sickness will be cast aside, forgotten, either forever stuck in the limbo of the non-physical realm or being passed on to the responsibility of another deity.
  • Personality: Xilantes is severely unstable, possessing an insatiable bloodlust. He looks for any excuse to cause havoc in the new universe, either through subtlety and intelligence, or violent, idiotic rage. Almost paradoxically, he actually encourages and helps the other deities in their new project, even if it is just to eventually destroy any life they create for his own amusement. He also owns the dead soldiers and war heroes, adding those who died in battle to the forefront of his "collection" and pushing aside the ones who died from sickness or other "weaker" deaths, so they may never be remembered for their disgrace. While most of the time he is ignorant to prayers from mortals, if it directly leads to more bloodshed he will eagerly oblige to any requests.

Name: Maliv.

True Name: Elbereth of the Waking Mists

Title(s): The Mistwalker, The Shrouded One, The Luckweaver.

Description: Maliv typically tends to manifest as a tall man in a black cloak and hood; mist follows him wherever he walks, lapping at his heels and swirling around his lower half. When he takes off his hood, he appears either as a grinning skull made of mist (to those who don’t worship him) or a plain man with black hair and green eyes (to other deities or those who follow him.) He often flips a golden coin with the symbol of a misty grove on it, his symbol.

Primary Domain: Mist. His primary domain encompasses stealth, cloaking, and mystery; he tends to be the patron god of detectives, scouts, and those who desire to vanish from the prying eyes of the world at large. Most prayers he receives are either for stealthiness, requests to help a follower unravel a mystery, or for protection. His tends to send his mists to shield his creations with barriers of mist to confuse and turn away those who would do them harm.

Secondary Domain: Luck. His secondary domain encompasses luck and chance; he tends to also be the patron god of choice for healers and travelers, as a little luck can both go a long way in either profession. While other deities might refrain from interacting or influencing mortals in visible ways, Maliv tends to be the most open in his involvement- after all, who hasn’t had an odd run of good or bad luck,or an extraordinary event happen to them?

Personality: Maliv enjoys humor and irony, but he is also kind; jokes he pulls on mortals or deities never veer into cruel territory, and he typically makes it up for them later. He is jovial and nice most of the time, but he can be hard as steel when the need arises. He is extremely protective of his creations and those who follow him, and very little can deter him from protecting his people, with force or magic if necessary. He tends not to smite or punish evil, instead inflicting bad luck on them, also acting as Karma.

He typically takes the souls of his dead followers, or if no one worships him in a particular universe, those who would be condemned to bad fates. “Getting Maliv’ed” is a term quite a few deities use when referring to the Mistwalker stealing away those who by rights belonged to them. Maliv also appears as a grinning skeleton to people he doesn't worship mostly to mess with them.

Here's my character, the leader/GM of the whole shindig: Name: Unknown True Name: Undecided Title(s) The Unknown God, Mr. Indecisive Description: A glowy featureless humanoid, which will change when he picks his domains. Primary Domain: Undecided, strongly considering Time. Secondary Domain: Undecided History: The Unknown God spontaneously came into existence a few decades ago, and quickly realized two things: 1: He wanted his own universe. 2: He had neither the skill or raw power to make one on his own. Five minutes after Realization 2, he sent out a push notification to every deity-level being he could sense, asking them for help in creating a universe in exchange for worshipers included in the finished product. The first group of deities who responded, the Narrators (my Meta Guy Mega Crossover OCs) politely declined due to time constraints, but left him with a list of good universe architects. Personality: He doesn't have much of one, due to being an undecided god, but one attribute he does have is extreme indecisiveness about what domains to pick. He's mentioned that if a mortal manages to convince him to pick, they will immediately ascend into a minor deity He's True Neutral, and most of his time on the project (when he's not coming up with ideas) is spent resolving disputes between opposing gods.

This is actually really interesting. I may go back and edit some more detail into Xilantes' sign-up. I didn't even think about the deities' physical/simplified forms or avatars.

Edit: Done. Should be more detailed.

One of the aforementioned Narrators is actually a Sir Swears-a-Lot Blood Knight ghost-possessed robot (is there a trope for that?) with Spontaneous Weapon Creation abilities. He'd get on swimmingly with Xilantes. Swimmingly, in this case, meaning swimming through an ocean of blood.

If you had to design other god/desses for this due to a dearth of other players, what would they be? And do the gods know about modern/future technology?

I'd imagine I would mix it up between Lovecraftian creatures and more traditional humanoids. Domains could be illness, physical strength, crops, doorways...

As for knowledge of modern/future technology, I'd like to think so. I think that Xilantes may have either chosen or made a realm with modern weaponry for... obvious reasons.

[down] Didn't think of that. Convenient, considering that one of my already existing entity characters, Zol-Karthoth, has the power to manipulate and open portals. May bring him in.

Hey, don't look down on the Doorway domain. Liminality is a surprisingly broad concept. For one thing, Thinking Up Portals. My alt-god would probably be a minotaur god of Earth and Technology.

Question- I'm assuming that each of our deities has an "afterlife" of sorts? And what happens if two gods want the same soul? I feel like it'd be amusing if, since to both of them being super powerful, it more or less boiled down to a regular "I want him more than you" argument xD

I mainly ask because plenty of mortals could technically "belong" to a lot of deities. A follower of Maliv who dies valiantly in battle would technically belong to both the Mistwalker and the Greater Warmonger.

Well, Maliv takes the souls of his followers. Xilantes takes the general dead who have fallen in battle. I'd imagine he would leave Maliv's followers alone, as Xilantes recognizes that they are under his responsibility.

Anyway, Xilantes leaves those who have not died in battle, so any other deities claiming souls can have them as long as they died by other means.
