Just recently I've been getting a fascination with bad cover art after watching AVGN's Bad Game Cover Art Marathon and Animat's Top 10 Worst DVD/Bluray covers

With the new DVD and Blu Ray covers, there's this big question, why don't they just use the old covers/posters? I have a theory, because they are old, and they have to look new like if the movie was made recently. That's the best arrogant logic I can think of.

There are also those stupid trend covers where they just do an extreme close up of a character's face. I remember that one article that says Disney changed the logo in the movies from Walt Disney Pictures to Disney for the sake of smartphone sizes. (I can't find that article anymore) Was that the same logic here? Kids can be stupid, but they aren't near-sighted. Besides, even if that was the case, there are still tablets that are larger than iPhones, and of course, the actual DVD covers which the kids can clearly see and put in front of their faces.

I just wanted to get it off my chest. But what other cover art trends do you have an issue with?

Compare Time After Time's original art with the reissue.

The art was the only reason i got the original.

The Protomen enhanced my life.

[up] It seems like they were really banking on the star power of Malcolm Mc Dowell and Mary Steenburgen for the new cover. It kind of illustrates how it seems like older movies could get away with more conceptual/thematic posters/covers, but newer ones almost always have to squeeze the lead actors in somewhere, because apparently no one ever watches a movie if they're not going to recognize anyone in it.

The North American boxart for Astal (can be seen on the game's Wikipedia page) seems to have gotten Astal's appearance a bit Off-Model. It's not as bad as, say, the boxart for the first two Mega Man games, but it still deserves a mention here.

The cover for Transporter 2 has bothered me for a long time. Just look at how horrible the woman on the left looks. Her head is huge and her body just looks janky. It's like it was cobbled together from a bunch of different images.

I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting Agency
