What a great Idea.
You lost!By the Emperor, why?
Apparently Oda himself wanted a live action show, and claimed that it would be easier to have a Western production have the budget necessary for the show.

This would be one hell of a show to have on HBO on Sundays.

That of course, assumes a US station is interested.

Even putting aside Hollywood's history with anime and manga adaptations, how do they plan on adapting stuff like this
in live action on a tv budget without it coming across as ridiculous?
This feels like a set up for a disaster on par with the Inhumans tv show.
And with Netflix having already taken down the page regarding the series, there's bound to be more curiosity.
I'm still thinking about how Tomorrow Studios will handle the casting, production locations, visual effects, music or sound design. Hopefully, over the next few months, we'll have more news. Speaking of which, given my thoughts on the visual effects on the main anime page, I envisioned that it may look something like this from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi (via Industrial Light & Magic):
Would those effects work for the One Piece live-action series? I'm also concerned about the Chroma Key effects since Zoro has green hair (it might not work for green-screen) and Luffy usually wears short blue trousers (it also might not work for blue-screen).

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself. We now have a scriptwriter -
Matt Owens, who you may remember from Luke Cage and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
So, 10 episodes. What are they supposed to cover in that amount of time? Because the whole east blue saga is sure too much for that.
You lost!Depends how much they compress. Myself I think the East Blue Saga would be doable in that timespan, but you'd need to follow a pretty brisque pace and fuse some characters. Alvida, Buggy and Morgan are pretty inconsequential and you could really deal with them in a couple of episodes. Buggy and Alvida you could just wrangle in a single plotline episode over a couple of episodes and Morgan doesn't need more than one episode.
Kuro, Krieg and Arlong are the ones with some actual meat to their bones. Between them, Arlong and Krieg are by far the meatiest, with Kuro being the more expendable of the bunch.
So I could see the first episode covering Morgan Axe-Hand, second and third covering Alvida and Buggy, fourth and fifth Kuro, sixth and seventh Don Krieg, then have 8-9 with Arlong and 10 is just Logue Town.
You'll probably end up with some compromises, like chopping down Kuro's crew to just him and Django and Don Krieg's to him and Pain or Smoker being basically a cameo in the Logue Town episode, but it's broadly doable I think.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Man when are we gonna get like cast announcements or a visual set-piece pic?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Some of the translators of the announcement said "in a few days". Considering the glacial pace of series development in the Twitter age where every drip and drab is made a story with no worry about the downtime, I’m expecting no news until summer.
Lewis Tan hinted that he might portray Roronoa Zoro.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Speaking of casting, i wonder if they will stick to the characters hypothetical real life nationalities.
Like how Oda said if Nico Robin was real, she'd be from Russia and Franky would be from the US.
I think he mentioned the others too, but i forget.
That will almost certainly not happen.
He listed the nationalities as so -
Luffy - Brazilian Zoro - Japanese Nami - Swedish Robin - Russian Ussop - African. (Everyone assumed he meant South Africa). Franky - American Chopper - Canadian Brook - British
French Twitter has been the most vocal about this, begging them not to cast a black woman as Nami (when a false rumor hit a few months back they cast the woman who played Shuri in Black Panther as Nami, the French Twitter was the most vitriolic).
Weirdly, Jamie Lee Curtis is apparently a fan of OP. She even tweeted to promote the limited theatrical run of One Piece Stampede a few months back. I wonder if they’ll get her a role.
who could she play? Tsuru, maybe?
PSA: a cat is not a dog×2
Thank you!
And he said Sanji would be French i believe.
And sad to hear people are reacting that way on Twitter, but sadly not surprising.
Huh didn't know the French were so against casting a black actress.......
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Following Oda's logistic would result in a amazingly diverse cast and it's what I always wanted to be done, but I doubt it will be.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I've been thinking about something: will Noé Velázquez (Sanji), Alejandro Orozco (Usopp), Georgina Sánchez (Nami) and most of the cast for the uncut Latin American Spanish release of the anime reprise their roles for the dub of this series?

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Oh, and there will probably one of three actors that might be cast as one of the Straw Hats. I wonder who that could be...?
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself. The phenotype here provided would indicate Sanji, but who knows.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."
From the producer of Prison Break and Teen Wolf.
No this is not a prank. This is a Hollywood TV adaptation of Echiro Oda's seminal and extremely long running manga.
