Opened...it's a bit clunky but it works for me pending other ideas.
As an alternative: The incredulity of Saint Thomas◊ by Caravaggio.
Spiral out, keep going.3 is kinda great.
3 is indeed kind of great, but Jesus died and was resurrected. Not sure it shows what this trope is.
Well, the event was on the examples list, albeit with "Playing with" potholed into it. Even so, getting stabbed in the chest with a lance is still a pretty serious wound, especially in Jesus' times. It could work as a strictly literal interpretation of the trope.

Spiral out, keep going.OP is... clunky, yes, and a little unclear, but it sort of shows the trope.
I think he looks too healthy in 3.
Check out my fanfiction!I'm not sure how to illustrate this while clearly being an example without being spoilerish.
But for now, here's a Pans Labyrinth example; one I think was pretty predictable, but then again, I had already been somewhat into TV Tropes when first watching it and knew what I was getting into when I saw Capt. Vidal on the Complete Monster list. note
I'm pretty faint-hearted, so OP kinda freaks me out. Similar reveal: Mercutio from the Baz Luhrmann version (it won't win any points for quality, though):
I also think he looks too healthy in 3.

^ I actually find your example more painful to look at.
That's pretty cool.
For me, I currently prefer the OP. None of the others seem to clearly show a mortal wound, and the use of a note as the reveal is both clever and appropriate to the trope.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMI'll go with the OP.
(Annoyed grunt)Anyone want to weigh in on the Pans Labyrinth example I used earlier, or whether or not it's too spoilerish?
Two problems with that one — the graininess of the first panel, and IMO the others are more clear about the actual injury.
I like 9 best.
OP works too, but tbh, I don't like the use of clicking on the note too reveal the last picture. Perhaps if it was a collage of three pictures, I would like it more, but it kinda freaks me out anyway.
The Pan's Labyrinth one is ok, but the wound is not shown as clearly as in 9. But it would be a solid link on Image Links subpage. :-)

Then it should go there in correct aspect ratio.edited 30th Jul '17 3:20:45 AM by eroock
Crowner's hooked. I've bolluxed the formatting of the first option trying to compensate for the pic in the caption.
18 seems a little bit of a spoiler
It really is, which is why I don't care for it.
Shouldn't any option have the gruesome injury behind label-note, so that they only see it (or, if in a public place, show it to everyone else) if they choose to?
Not everyone clicking "mortal wound reveal" is expecting it to actually be pictured.

What's the option that reads "https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mortal_wound_reveal_1_4.png 1.1 Captioned: [[caption-idth:350:Victory! Hmm... what's that?note ]]"? It links to a Prince of Persia page rather than the image. Same with the one that reads "1.2 + 1.3." It's a little confusing as to what's being voted on...

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyIt's the first of two options from the original post. Not sure how best to edit that option to reflect that, though.

So far the option from post 9 is tied with the label-note version of the OP's option. Perhaps a label-note version of the option from post 9 might be worthwhile?
As far as I'm concerned, I think all options should have the gory part behind label-note. Anyone in the campus food court who loses their lunch because the guy in front of them clicked the page didn't get a vote on this.
