I got this idea from a random comment a friend of mine said about a character's artwork. Essentially, the wizard was clad in black, with plenty of skull designs/patterns (not Obviously Evil, but it was clear what sort of magic he was into). "Gee, he must be a Necromancer."

So, I got to thinking: With the eight magic "majors" used in the various Dungeons and Dragon settings, what sort of attire (colors, jewelry, nationality style, etc.) would you see the various practitioners wearing? There aren't any wrong or right answers (except for you, Billy); just your ideas/imaginings.

Now, I'm going to ask you that question once more. And if you say no, I'm going to shoot you through the head. - John Cleese

While the stereotypical necromancer wears black and skulls, I once came up with a group of antiheroic necromancers who wore bone-coloured robes, and had a policy of turning up to small, embattled towns, reanimating all the skeletons in the local graveyard, and using them to drive off the attackers.

Also, in the WHFB setting, the magical Wind of Death was associated with purple, so death mages within the Empire were known as Amethyst Wizards.

This took longer than I thought.

Abjuration: Blue's, whites, with hints of gold. Usually overdress, leaving very little exposed flesh. Alternately, lots of gauzy fabrics and face veils.

Conjuration: A combination of eighties style power businessman/woman, mixed with zookeeper. Colorwise, LOTS and usually clashing.

Divination: Lots of black, highlighted with gold, silver, and star patterns. Alternately, they pick a specific tarot card and wear clothes that play up that character.

Enchantment: Autumn tones, especially reds. Dressing like broadway stars and showstopping acts.

Evocation: Electric tones, yellow, blue, lots of crystals, all on skintight and revealing outfits meant to distract and dazzle.

Illusion: Opalescent, crystal laden fabrics and clothes, probably the kind you can completely change around. (the skirt turns into a cape, the jacket is a literal turncoat). OR, bland, nondescript clothes so when the illusions run out, they can sneak quietly through a crowd.

Necromancy: Blinding white with grey "highlights" or heavy lace brocade dresses for women and dowdy dapper suits for men. All of the previous with Mexican style neon candy color face paint. Because life always precedes death, and even in death there brief, intense flashes of emotion and memory.

Transmutation: Copper, silver, gold, all the metallic tones in a similar, chameleon like arrangement that never lets you pin down what they wear. Wardrobe is 100% utility, multifunctional types of clothes. Handyman meets mad scientist.
