The current isn't great but I get more context from his clothes than from the suggestion, so I'm voting to keep the current pending other ideas.

for the suggestion. That wheel had to obscure the view of the character.
Going to go Keep Until Better Image Suggested for now.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportHe's a bit younger than the trope suggests, but maybe a picture of Captain Haddock◊ from Tintin would do?
Spiral out, keep going.Captain Wrongel◊ from a Soviet cartoon and a novel.
Spiral out, keep going.4 and 6 work for me.
Captain Haddock works for me.
(Annoyed grunt)I'm thinking whichever character we go with should be shown either at the helm or with both the sea and part of the boat visible in the background.
And 6 fits that description.
Spiral out, keep going.True, but ideally I'd like something that fits the description and has a better art style.
Don't get me wrong, though. If we can't find that, then the image in post 6 will do.
Crowner?
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I think 6 is the overall best.
I'm down with 4 or 6.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.6 has a good art style, and it's a clear illustration.
Check out my fanfiction!6 can work.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI can't tell what the heck 6 is.. a solid
Elaborate, please. It shows a middle-aged man standing at the helm of a ship, wearing a naval uniform. There's a sea in the background. What, precisely, is confusing you?
Spiral out, keep going. The cartoony nature of it may be what's confusing.
I think this calls for a crowner.
Spiral out, keep going. My problem with 6 is that it doesn't look like he's hardened by his time at sea. The description of the trope seems pretty clear:
- "He has endured storms, pirates, fog, and all the perils of the sea."
- "He has been in a Bar Brawl in every port and he has never lost"
- "he is a lord of the sea and all sailors must heed him or endure his wrath"
- etc.
This character is not pleasant on first sight, and 6 looks like an easygoing captain of a ship. He looks like he's pleasant, which doesn't seem to fit the trope description.

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyGood point. Let's keep looking for better examples before we start on any crowner.
For what it's worth, here's Barbossa from Pirates Of The Caribbean:
Quint from Jaws?
Alternatives for Sea Captain

Nominations for replacement images:
The current is just a guy in a vaguely naval cap using a telescope. Surely we can do better than that.
Here's a middle-aged sailor from The Wind Waker. I'm not sure it's a good example since, in-context, he has to take orders from a little girl and all, but at least he's at the helm in this pic, if only physically. If nothing else, it'll get the ball rolling.
