In Harry Potter, dragon skin is mentioned as being used for boots. Would that count as an example?
Edit: I looked it up and it wasn't just used for boots, but for coats/jackets and also protective gloves.

Pretty much any example I can think of is one of the following general cases :
1)[Creature] Hide (for general leather types)
2)[Creature] Scales (dragons and other nasty lizard/snake like things)
3)[Creature] Silk (spiderish things)
In all 3 cases the Creature is something quite powerful/nasty, where just obtaining the raw materials is an inherently difficult proposition.

I think those are about all I could come up with, too:
Dragonscale Fishscale - some kind of giant, or otherwise dangerous fish. Spider silk - but from a giant spider.
In researching the topic, I realized that humans really don't have that much diversity to draw on. Clothes and armor all come from plants, animal hair, animal hide or metal. I guess a fantastic world could include plants, and chitin from giant chitinous creatures like crabs.
Thank you all for your help. :)
In MAR Barker's Tsoliani world, there's a large reptilioid critter called a (damn, brainfarting on the name of it...) ...a "schlen". The skin can be removed in large sheets without hurting the animal and when properly processed, makes a leather than is about as tough as bronze. It's used for armour, and for boxes, cases, or chests
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.This looks like a TLP discussion, really.
In Greek myth, the Nemean Lion is said to have an impenetrable hide. Hercules, after slaying it by choking it to death, skins it with its own claws and uses it for his robe.
We don't need justice when we can forgive. We don't need tolerance when we can love.Yeah most crafting games like Atelier Series will have fantasy cloth you need to make like in Atelier Totori has Polywool, Nylonfeather, Velvetis.
World Of Warcraft has it as drops for the tailoring profession like, Netherweave Cloth, Mooncloth, Felcloth. Leather for leather armor and scales for mail too.
In Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition, certain types of armor can be crafted from Elven Leafweave, Shadowsilk or Thistledown, and a few other types use special cloths as part of their construction. Dragonhide can be used to craft hide armor for large creatures, or plate for smaller ones. Eberron adds Darkweave, Glamerweave, Dolweave and Chameleonweave, which can be incorporated into clothing (not armor) for minor skill bonuses.

Why not do a TRS or something to generalize Fantasy Metals into Fantasy Materials or something?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576It's easier to TLP this one as its sister trope.
We don't need justice when we can forgive. We don't need tolerance when we can love.And/or make a supertrope to Fantasy Cloth, Leather, Scales, Thread, uncraftable fantasy devices which must be found to make things, magical materials etc
Exactly what it says on the tin. Researching magical things and finding material to be used as metals that go beyond steel is really easy, but I can't find a source, really, other than World of Warcraft that seemed to do anything with cloth or leather, and searching the other wiki hasn't yielded any fruitful results.
Does anyone know of any resources or examples of mystical materials that could be a stand-in for cloth such as linen or silk (or regular cowhide leather), or of any examples of magical articles of clothing in mythology or otherwise that were composed of irregular materials that were cloth or leather-like in nature?
