Why do I like this? Oh, right.

You know how Kingdom Hearts took Disney characters and mixed them with Square Enix characters and made that work? And how Once Upon a Time took Disney characters and put them in a Lotus-Eater Machine?

If there's one thing I've learned about Disney is that they can take pretty much any source material and warp it into whatever they darn well please and still make it entertaining. Descendants is, as the title suggests, about the sons and daughters of famous disney villains. I never watched the first one, but got the gist of the plot and liked the concept (but mostly that one song).

The new people are Ursula's daughter, and Captain Hook's and Gaston's sons.

Did they ever explain how some of the villains who should be dead are not?

Also how does Gaston's wife basically feel about being a runner up?

So this is a thing that exists. And I thought Kingdom Hearts was weird.

Did they ever explain how some of the villains who should be dead are not?
I'm going to assume magic.

Also how does Gaston's wife basically feel about being a runner up?
Considering how every woman in the village had the hots for him, I doubt she cared. In fact, she was probably elated to be picked as runner up at all.

[up][up] Apparently according to one of the tie-in novels, the good guys brought the villain back to life just so they could punish them with exile to the Isle of the Lost.

@noname999 forget that. How did they have these kids in the first place? Who, for instance, is Mal's father and what happened to him?

Do they also ever explain why all these characters from different time periods are suddenly contemporaries?

Or the dubious legality and morality of condemning these kids to grow up in an exile prison for the crimes of their parents?

Seeing the original - and finding it surprisingly entertaining - I always thought that a Disney Utopia having the North Korean prison system was a little jacked up.

However, I am impressed that so many people were so accepting of villain children attending the school. I think a Little Rock Nine style showdown would be more realistic.

I watched some more of it too.

It's a little too... "Disney tween" for me. A few years back and I might have enjoyed it more. It feels like that sort of classical throwback that I should like, but I can't ever tell my coworkers that I do or I'm gonna come off as some kind of creep.

I feel like this concept would have worked better if they'd just made an animated series or a film out of it - you could have more characters showing up, for one.

The line Maleficent's daughter gave about what it's like being on the island, "We don't have parties... it's more like... gang activity," had me in stitches.

Oh, hey, there is a Descendants thread.

Carlo's actor, Cameron Boyce, passed away suddenly this weekend. I don't know him from anything but Descendants, but it's a tragic young death nevertheless.

Horrifying. The reports from the family are that he has a seizure in his sleep.

The third film is supposed to come out next month too. I'd imagine a lot of that will be dedicated to his memory.
