[up][up] Sweet. Then the question is how Willem and Nephren are spending their time on the surface. Have avoided spoilers regarding that, and the sequel SukaMoka.

Now off to read the LNs.

[up] Yeah, if Willem was alone he most likely would have gotten himself killed.

Well, the LN after the anime shows pretty much all of Willem's backstory.

If you thought he was strong in the present despite having a body that Kiritsugu Emiya and Kirie Kotomine wouldn't be able to move in, imagine how strong he was in the past.

Hint, He was able to kill a god for a reason.

Boy, was that ever a Gainax Ending. Or maybe a "read the LN ending."

Reincarnating Ctholly was an interesting way to end that side of the story; her dying was inevitable, but this is a bit better than "yep, she died at the end, exactly as you expected, and that's it." (Though I couldn't help thinking that she appeared to be the offspring of two women.) But Willem and Nephren never really got an ending. I guess those ripples were supposed to mean they weren't dead? Even though surviving on the surface indefinitely seems kinda impossible?

I can't actually remember when the big reveal of some, but possibly not all, the monsters being humans actually happened. It also... doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Apparently this is because it's not true, and the real explanation is presumably more complicated? And there's these Visitors things, something about gods, not sure if those are the same thing or not. Ctholly came from one of those, but the other fairies came from regular humans? I think? The lore of this series is getting hard to follow very quickly. And the anime part of it just ended... so... I guess I'm not going to understand it anytime soon.

[up] I think those two women were part of whatever ritual/phenomenon that creates a new leprechaun.

[up][up] All leprechauns came from Elq, so it's not just Chtholly.

We can post LN spoilers here, if you'd like, though I haven't actually gotten around to reading up on most of it.

@Kotomikun: here's some LN spoilers:

the beasts used to be humans, yes, but the REAL origin, explained in Volume 5 is that the beasts are actually the planet's original organisms, and the desert area of the surface is the planets original surface. The visitors, including Elq and her guardians, came to the planet from the cosmos, and seeing the beasts, decided to use their powers to create not just humans, but also the furry people, as well as the now extinct elves and dragons. Humans were closest in looks to Elq, hence why they became beasts first, and the reason for that is when Elq and eboncandle originally died, the influence the vistors had on humans lessened, thus causing the humans to revert back to their original Beast forms.

It's a VERY Taro Yoko esque story by then, right up to Showing how the beasts are just as much of a victim of circumstance (despite most of their mindlessness) as the people they kill, especially with Almaria, one of Willem's original love interest shown in the past flashbacks of his story, as Shiantor the Wailing First Beast, who eventually infects both Willem and Nephren with her beast essence, turning Willem into a beast, and giving Nephren Complete Immortality.

You can actually see Wilhelm as a beast in the OP.

so thanks to the rewatch on r/anime i have now watched Suka Suka and this is what i think about it:

wow, this was something else, a light novel adaption with no harem and an actual flawed, selfish protagonist, plus a well fleshed out supporting cast. this is how you do a light novel. is Willem the best light novel protagonist i have ever seen? no, that title still belongs to Subaru Natsuki, but he is in the top 10

it was also adapted great with great care being put into it's soundtrack and directing, with each scene eventually building up towards a tragic climax. special mention should be given to Chtholly's sacrifice and the double monologues in the finale

Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic Socialist
