Part of the problem is that the Phoenix Wright example is really Not as You Know Them (temporary derailment to let Apollo Justice have the spotlight).

Original IP thread, for reference.
Can this trope even be illustrated? Regardless of the issue with the description? How to show that a character's been Put on a Bus? And how to show that the character's changed dramatically while being the same person?
Spiral out, keep going.@2: What's the difference between this trope and Same Character, But Different?
According to trope descriptions, Same Character But Different is the force shoe-horning of a character into a role that doesn't suit them, while Not As You Know Them is a forced derailing of a character to promote another character.
Phoenix Wright is an example of the latter (the derailment allows Apollo Justice to be the lead defense lawyer in the relevant game).
Probably the issue is that Not As You Know Them ought to be a subtrope of Same Character But Different.
Well, if one is a subtrope of the other, then the Phoenix Wright image works as-is (lead lawyer shoe-horned into a bum role). Apollo is not in the picture, so the average person seeing the pic wouldn't immediately think that Phoenix is derailed to give Apollo the spotlight.
Also, I don't think it's necessary to show the Put on a Bus part. Phoenix looks older on the right, so that aspect of the trope can be assumed.
Clock is set.
I tried to hunt down some DC Comics examples that are decent examples (Maxwell Lord, Superboy Prime), but I haven't found a set of pictures I particularly like.
Keep Until Better Image Suggested, maybe fix up the caption to be clearer.
Clock's up; locking for inactivity/lack of consensus.
More that that, it's may be actively misleading.
This was the reason for this Trope talk thread:
In the examples, it's noted that the change occurs between the first trilogy (the last of which came out in 2004,) and the fourth game (released in 2007)/ So the character wasn't Put on a Bus, technically. The whole series took an extended hiatus.
So, is this a bad image, a bad caption, or a TRS issue with the description?
