Opening.
My non-mod vote is for putting the old one back. As you said, no title, and the opening date is irrelevant.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I think it should be reverted.
(Annoyed grunt)Agreed, revert.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I think the date is more relevant than the title. We already have the title first thing on the page in huge letters. Having it on the image is just redundant. The date is additional information about when it's from.
Check out my fanfiction! That would be a strong argument if we were going to rewrite the page after the film is released, or if the date of release was in anyway relevant to troping the film. But neither of those is the case. The page will be added to, certainly, but it won't get a wholesale rewrite, and the date is not relevant to troping it.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.And redundantly repeating the title, which is completely useless and adds absolutely nothing is in any way a stronger argument?
But your argument is fallacious anyway, as it assumes there can be no other reasons. If there are several Spider-Man films and someone finds it easier to remember them by when they were released, then it's useful for illustrating which film the page is about. The purpose of the image is to illustrate what film the page is about. It's not about troping the film, which means your argument isn't relevant to begin with. Rewriting the page has nothing to do with it.
Check out my fanfiction!I disagree with the Duck's reasoning, but at the same time there's something amusing about the pic that's on the page now that makes me lean toward keeping it.
The "old one" shows more of his costume, which is unique to that version of Spider-Man.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Yes, that too. The new one also has the peculiarity that, depending on your screen configuration, upon opening the page you see nothing but the city skyline until you scroll down and reveal Spider-Man. Thus, as an illustration of the movie, it fails.
I don't buy that at all. "If you only see half the image, it doesn't work" isn't an argument.
That's actually a legitimate argument, though.

Check out my fanfiction!I vote keep.
The image is more interesting given the "white space," and the lines coupled with the angle.
The image shows more personality to the character than him hanging upside down. This is obviously a teenager just chilling out.
The image is more interesting on a meta-level, too. How many images of Spider-Man swinging, hanging, or jumping do we have? I think the image on Superior Spider Man is particularly interesting in part because he's just sitting there (and the mutations). L Ikewise, I think this image is more interesting because he's just being a kid in a costume in a way that TV Tropes doesn't normally show him. This point is particularly about people who Wiki Walk through Spider-Man's pages. I'm thinking of Aquaman's pages, where sometimes we have images of him swimming, sitting, or whatever. For whatever reason, Spider-Man is usually shown in one or two ways on TV Tropes, so him just being a kid in a promotional poster is more interesting, I think.
While I agree that the old one shows more of his costume, I think the new one shows more of his personality.

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyI prefer the old one
showing spider-man costume, jacket from peter's high school, new york, and avengers tower is more illustrative of elements in the work than just the spider-man and the title, and differentiates it more from other spider-man film works pages. Even though I'm the one who put in the previous image, I'd also vote for the newer one on those grounds.
That's 6 in favor of a revert versus 4 for a keep thus far.
Maybe it'll start even more of a discussion, but I really like the newest poster, here◊.
But if I had to decide between the old one and the current I'd choose the current one too, it looks more fun to me.
Whoever changed the image should've talked about it in the Image Discussion thread.
The opening date is relevant after it passes. Many works are disambiguated by year published.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I vote keep the current image, for reasons stated by Water Blap above.
Twitter/Instagram: anzasquiddles. Deviantart: anzahanifathallah.I want to keep the image too. It's really nice and adds a nice splash of characterization to MCU Spidey.
Clock is set. Crowner?
I think a crowner would be a good idea.
(Annoyed grunt)crowner; and hollering for a hook
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyThanks, it's hooked.
Totally missed 16. Sorry. Bumping for votes since 16 has been added (by rodney).

Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
Changed from the old one◊ to a more recent poster.◊
Culprit messaged.
Now, the new one sure is beautiful, but as a page illustration I prefer the old. At least it shows the movie title. The opening date will be irrelevant once it is past.
And I favor the old caption too.
