Worry that he would become a murderer is far from the only reason Batman doesn’t kill. He also has a strong ideological reason: his motivation has always been to reclaim the city from the corruption that overtook it, without the violence that took his parents. In his mind, if he only keeps the city from self destructing through vigilante murdering people, he’s just proving that the brutality of Gotham is unsalvageable.

This is why a lot of recent incarnations and appearances but a lot of weight on characters like Joker trying to break Batman’s resolve by getting him to kill: killing Joker would band-aid many of Gotham’s problems, but would demolish Batman’s higher aspirations.

It can be argued that Batman is actually quite successful at this, as well. He cleans up the city well: it’s not his fault that Status Quo Is God that Gotham’s legal system is so screwed up that his hard work is always undone. That’s always a problem with he arguments that superheroes are ineffective unless they kill: it solely places the responsibility on the vigilante to murder the people that the government chooses not to, and consequently the blame on them for the criminals’ actions when the status quo inevitably leaves them unpunished despite the vigilante’s successes.

I take Batman's Thou Shall Not Kill philosophy as working this way:

1. Batman became a vigilante to save lives, not take them.

2. His father is a doctor and passed that attitude down on him.

3. Batman is skilled enough he never needs to kill ala Superman and Zod to save lives. People are really asking why he doesn't execute people.

4. The revolving door of Gotham's prison system is Flanderization and not as bad as it seems in-universe.

5. Killing people would break his relationship with Jim Gordon and the GCPD, who will bend the rules but not break them.

6. There is a serious question of "if I start executing people, what is the criteria for it."

7. Batman is not psychologically equipped to kill people.

7# is notably why the TV show Incredible Hulk never killed people. His girlfriend said David Banner was a doctor and not a killer so the Hulk was not a killer. As angry as David gets, he holds back from ever crossing that line because it's a firmly built part of his brain.

I wonder who Alice Eve is playing. I think she'll be Miranda Rand, Danny's half-sister by his father.

They're just weeks away from wrapping. Three weeks, according to Jessica Henwick's Instagram page.

Also, I was reading somewhere there are only ten episodes planned for Iron Fist season 2, which seems to make sense given that the estimated wrap date is around the same time that Daredevil season 3 is scheduled to wrap, even though Daredevil started a month earlier and is scheduled for 13 episodes.

Or maybe there's three less eps because they knew people were less anxious for it and they're just getting it out of the way.

Eh, now that this thread is back up, I'm gonna sit back and enjoy people shitting on Danny again.

As long as there's some creativity and all that.

I can't wait! I fully expect Iron Fist to buckle the trend and deliver a second season which isn't ruined by the second half.

...Really?

What do you expect in this second half?

Everyone kicking Danny in the ass for the entire 40-50 minutes of the episode?

...I admit, that'd be pretty nice.

Again: just kill Danny off and have Colleen replace him as the Iron Fist. Problem solved, make her team up with Misty Knight and Season 3 becomes "Iron Fist: Daughters of the Dragon".

This unabashed hatred of Danny Rand continues to amuse.

I don't love him but I don't hate him. The only character I particularly like in the Netflixverse right now is Frank Castle and that's mainly because Jon Bernthal kills it. note . The supporting cast of these shows are usually more interesting than the leads.

Scott Buck fucked up beyond doubt, but it's salvageable I believe. Some Character Development and maturing is what Danny needs. He was already a lot more bearable in Defenders, to be honest. We can get him there to the level of his comic self step by step.

I don't actually hate Danny. I just find the hate of him funny, and enjoy it.

If people stopped hating him, I'd be ok, because they we could stop pissing on him because he's awful and more because it's just fun.cool

And isn't that the best way to do it?[lol]

I mean, his barging into Coleen's life probably wouldn't be acceptable in IRL, and I didn't care for the final battle with whats-his-face-undead-rich-man-forgettable-character-Mc-Evil-Douche?

But nothing else particularly "unsalvageable", or at least, nothing more offensive to me than Matt "lie to everybody I care about for no conceivable reason" Murdock.

Maybe it's just cause I didn't read the comic and don't know what they're supposed to be like.

I think it's just the meta issues with Danny's actor that rile everyone. Danny'd be a forgettable character that no one gave a crap about rather than a source of outrage.

Well, what I want to see is them addressing that what Kun Lun did to Danny is really F... up. I also want to see Danny developing some smarts, or at least goes to Ward so that Ward can help him to make positive changes in the company without barging in like an idiot. I also want more scenes of Danny being nice to the people working for him, winning their loyalty this way.

Also more Ward in general, a Joy who doesn't go evil but infiltrates the Hand and becomes all badass (honestly, if this would be the twist in the second half I would be over the moon) and a lot of awesome fight scenes.

I don't imagine Joy will turn full-on evil. She is certainly harboring resentment toward Danny, but she’s likely just gathering information, seeing what Davos is planning, and then she will eventually have to make a decision about how far she’s willing to go. The situation is more complicated than it was in the comics, and so the progression of Joy’s character arc here will likely be far more nuanced.

I hope so...but I honestly would prefer it if she wouldn't harbour resentment towards Danny at all, except maybe for leaving her in the dark. After all, he rescued her life - twice. She has way more reason to be angry with Ward than with Danny. It would be odd if she were switching from being angry with Howard for framing Danny to being angry with Danny herself so suddenly.

I still think that the best direction would be if she plans to take down the hand all along, since she felt truly happy doing this. Apparently happier than she ever was as CEO.

The Hand is the Netflix-verse's equivalent of HYDRA. It can return whenever the plot calls for it, no many how many times it is 'destroyed'.
