I always appreciate Cool Kyoushinsha's attenpts at making sad and detailed backstories behind the facade of cute, moe, big-boobed girls.
And now we see, that some dragons are just assholes.
I think the Scanlation is now caught up at Chapter 69, which is the latest raw I can find. Also, Kanna has an asshole for a father. Breaks my heart to see how much she wants to believe otherwise.
So I finished the anime a while ago. THAT took longer than I expected.
Still, it's probably the first anime I've watched through the end in about...what, two years? The last one was Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, I think.
Also, it's a shame that the whereabouts of the holy sword is made very clear in the anime; it just disintegrated. Oh well.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.First rough translations of chapter 70 are going up; seems my flippant comment about Kobayashi becoming a wizard may have been on the money, rather than tongue-in-cheek.
Also, some deliberate jabs at Kobayashi's femininity; two characters refer to her as Kanna's father. Then in the playground with both of them together we get a 4 panel comparison; Kobayashi with Kanna, and 3 panels each with a father on the playground with their daughter. The author is really harping on Kobayashi lack of feminine traits, huh? I mean, Kobayashi really doesn't have any, being almost stereotypically androgynous; albeit with a feminine ponytail and a few masculine traits, like her drinking habits. Not sure how to feel about that, honestly.
Also increases my suspicion on the Azad guy.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!Mahou Shoujo Kobayashi will become a thing? Seriously, this series.
Trope question: on the character page, under Rescue Romance, there is a mention that Tohru was considering eating Kobayashi as a last meal. I do not recall this bring stated nor implied anywhere: I have read both the fan scanlation and official translations of all 3 manga, and have seen the anime, including the OVA and specials. Did I miss this somewhere, or did an editor take liberty with something they thought was implied?

Probably a personal reading of it. I didn't get the vibe that Tohru wanted to eat Kobayashi either, even in the flashback.
(My own reading was that she was annoyed that something was interrupting her just dying in peace.)
Same. If that wasn't stated anywhere I missed, then it is personal interpretation and should be a WMG rather than a trope. I have removed the reference.
Yeah, the most I recall from that was Tohru trying to scare her off, perhaps, but Drunk Kobayashi is a force of nature.
It's been fun.Yeah-I mean, that was about as convincing as her 'threat' to the bandit, who burst out laughing because of the delivery. Chalk it up to one contributor reading a bit due hard between the lines.
Yeah. Chaos faction though she may be, it seems pretty clear that Tohru doesn't actually hate humans.
It's been fun. Now, actually respecting humans and not treating them as an inferior good-for-nothing species is another matter entirely.
I mean, she's working on it... and in a purely physical sense, humans are inferior, to be honest. Look at anything Tohru can do, for one, or hell, anything Kanna can do.
It's been fun.Tohru has changed quite a bit by the recent chapters (50+). Still dismissive, but no longer actually bigoted.
I mean, maybe humans should try not being an inferior good-for-nothing species for once, if they have problem with being seen as such?
Well, based on what Tohru said, the humans in her world can use magic to close the gap significantly, an avenue closed on Earth due to the lack of mana and magical knowledge. And to be fair, Tohru seems to be stupidly powerful even by Dragon standards.
Double post for a new chapter: 71 is up today. Looks like we are getting plot heavy with a possible renewed conflict between dragon factions, and possible instigators. Also looking less likely Kobayashi will become an actual wizard, and more likely someone who knows a few spells and tricks to help out and at least avoid being a liability when the dragonfire starts flying.
Seems like shit about to hit the fan.
Chapter 72 is translated, where who would have thunkit, Azad is playing for both sides.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!Le shock!
Seriously tho, this is actually a pretty serious story arc going on here.
Chapters 73, 74, and 75 are up in English. Seems many people were right-Kobayashi has been learning magic, demonstrating some basic communication spells, one of which she combined with cellphones for something approaching Magitek.

Things are really ramping up now. I hope Kanna will be alright.
Kobayashi though she could outwit Tooru, not this time.
Lucoa looked kinda weird there, I hope she's alright.
Uh oh, Kanna's father is here. This will be interesting.
