I had a place called Skywater where I tried to blend elements of Norse and Japanese cultures. I think my reasoning was that both were mountainous countries surrounded by water. Also, I was fixating on kitsunes and trolls at that point, so.
Hilariously, my Japan parallel also has strong French influences in it. Mostly because those countries have strong cultural ties with each other, though it may also be a bit of Creator Provincialism shining through because France is closer to me than Japan.
Seen in the profile picture: the Gundam Flauros Rebake Full City, piloted by McGillis Itsuka, captain of the TurbinesIn my stories, Atlantis is similar to Ancient Greece, with the addition of medieval knights and African wildlife. I added the knighthood aspect because Atlantis was the first human country to have paladins, while the African wildlife is because, well, it's cool.
I like to keep my audience riveted. Now, you see I have a issue here:
I want to united too things here: the mediaval italy with their city states and the ancient city states of Greece, the reason is because having both is redundant and because I want to do a invert parallel here: the ancient rome expy fracture into city states to pretend they are still empire or a republic while the greek expy is molded after the Bizantine empire(who a time it look more like greek empire than anything else).
do you think is a good idea?
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"The Black Empire: Napoleonic Prussia mixed with Austrian Empire feudalism and Holy roman empire type trappings. It also shares some aspects with Qing Dynasty china.
But mostly: I want Medieval style knights with petty fiefdoms to lead Napoleonic musket troops dammit!
§◄►§The closest you have to that is how the Samurai became officers after the meiji revolution. Most knightly families became cavalry officers
The idea doesn't matter so much as the execution of it.
The Meluhhans resemble the E. Romans (a mix of Justinian's and Heraclius's times) with elements of Athens in its government, Ryukyu and Ancient Persia in its religion, the ancient Mexica in its schooling and ullamaliztlinote , everything its language(s), and then there's the contributions of the cultures encompassed in its territory.
- a different and very humanistnote official religion but one that kept its Henotikon. note
- The Meluhhan realm is nowhere near where the old ERE used to be—well close enough for a cultural exchange back in the day but still—and is a gigantic realm that seems to border all the world's hot spots, has a capital coveted by everyone, and has essentially no strategic depth.
- they speak a sorta Farsi that evolved its own way out of Middle Persian but their realm also encompasses a horrible sprachbund, where everyone mixes their local languages note into the lingua franca. Meaning that even if you understand the local Farsi in one place, it'll be only good for skimming the surface everywhere and even that much is no guarantee.
- the imperial house technically governs through a a number of sortitioned assemblies straight out of old Athens and Aetolia. note
- Their schools superficially resemble the Aztec model, meaning children go off and parents and guardians may not see them for days. And coaches are not shy about filling a room with chili smoke. On the other hand, an entire half of schooling (The House of Song) is reserved for singing, dancing, other arts and social activities.
- An unusual economy due to the nature of SE Asia (and the Indian Ocean in general) before colonization. note
- the Meluhhans technically have families but they live in oikoi (based upon Greek and Mongol associations)—households of about a dozen to twenty whose members are not necessarily related by DNA.
- Their view of death is very post-Black Death Europe. Their greeting is even "memento mori."
- Certain things that don't come from history but the setting, like slowly becoming a psychic people that heavily affects empathy, politics, and religion.
- Alot more, but its a whole constructed faction (alongside many others), and I'll end up rewriting the tale.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesLemuria has two of them. The humans of Lemuria are Dalaran combined with places like ancient Thailand and Cambodia, while their reptilian cousins, the lacertans, are a lot like ancient Persia.

Hi, guys, I want to make this thread so you can ut your example of mixing two cultures and why, mostly just for fun
So far In my setting, I decide to mix mesopotamian and egypcian cultures into one for obvious reason: both have god kings, both have piramids(well, kinda) and extended pantheon, so it kinda make sense for me.
What cultures do you mix in your setting and why?
