Kyon is a great example but we really do need a pic of him from the Haruhi manga or one of its spinoffs to work better.
I'm more-or-less seeing the same issue on Tall, Dark, and Snarky due to both of them relying too much on captions.

''“You want a planet? I’ll give you a planet! Heck, I’ll give you your own solar system! No, I’ll give you a house... in Boca Raton!True, but that one's had so many threads that haven't found anything better that the page is on the "don't start a thread without a suggestion" list.
I'll start a replacement suggestion for DeadpanSnarker.Anime And Manga: Levi◊ from Attack on Titan?

You're right.
I literally searched "big ass trees" and got this.
''“You want a planet? I’ll give you a planet! Heck, I’ll give you your own solar system! No, I’ll give you a house... in Boca Raton! Is there a manga equivalent of that scene that has dialogue that makes the snark evident?
Quick question; what makes a manga's speech balloon more valid than a caption added to an anime scene?
I guess it has to do with the fact that to change a caption, you can simply push the edit button; editing a manga cap would require at least one editing program, even if it's just MS Paint.
''“You want a planet? I’ll give you a planet! Heck, I’ll give you your own solar system! No, I’ll give you a house... in Boca Raton! Then what of editing a subtitle into an anime screenshot? Or editing a speech balloon into an anime screenshot? You'd need an image editing program to change that as well.
Because a speech balloon in a printed comic, and by relation an official subtitle in an animated work, are both integral parts of the work and inherently superior to a tacked-on caption, even if the caption is the actual dialogue. Editing the pic to add a subtitle is a possible fix, but if at all possible using the subtitle as it actually appears in the anime is preferable.

What if the tacked-on caption were more legible than the official subtitle?
Then we find a higher-quality version of the official sub.

''“You want a planet? I’ll give you a planet! Heck, I’ll give you your own solar system! No, I’ll give you a house... in Boca Raton! The image will need text. You can only show a person's sarcasm if they speak.
I don't know anything about Hyouka, so can someone lend a hand?

I think there is not much difference, and most "talking head" images are not good.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I don't think this page should have a picture; it's very hard to put snark into an image.
The current should definitely go, it's just a guy looking exasperated.
There are some fans of some show who know who he is and why you should care.
Seriously though, any snark is coming from the caption solely. It's just a guy looking sullen, which barely gets across "deadpan".
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"
