The suggestion works.
Works in lieu of anything else.
(Annoyed grunt)better than current.
''“You want a planet? I’ll give you a planet! Heck, I’ll give you your own solar system! No, I’ll give you a house... in Boca Raton!Works for me. I'd prefer something that isn't almost word for word from Star Wars, but I can't think of anything offhand that isn't a pretty direct copy of that scene.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.It works.

What if, instead of changing the picture, we changed the caption to something like "This isn't JAFAAC. You think this picture perfectly illustrates this trope."

That requires our readers to be familiar with the yargon, so not a good option I think. Readers outnumber editors (let alone editors who participate in the forums) by a huge margin.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Could always just not use the abbreviation, or pothole it to the JAFAAC page.
I just really don't want to use 8, it's pencil-drawn with visible sketch marks and generally looks crappy.

I agree, the proposal #8 is awful. I would prefer option #9, but using normal words, not "JAFAAC".
Still, as the ur example is one of the most famous scene from Star Wars, there should be an alternative and self-explanatory version of it elsewhere. I couldn't find it, but perhaps someone will.
I found one with Superman, but I would still prefer a Star Wars image if possible
Ultimate Secret WarsBy the way, the bottom of the page has a joke related to the image. If the image is changed, it may need to be changed or removed as well.
Ultimate Secret WarsThe image might need to be enlarged slightly

The current caption reads "this isn't the picture you're looking for". The stinger at the bottom says this isn't the trope you're looking for. That would make more sense if the description was preceded with the line, "This isn't the trope you're looking for. Move along." The image caption won't factor into that it seems.

x 5: The penciling is part of the art style. "I, personally, don't like it" is not a valid reason to substitute actually illustrating the trope with an in-wiki joke that will only serve to confuse most people. Even if a link was included it means people have to read some other page first.
Superman is also a contender, though. Is there a version with larger text? 8 still has it beat in terms of clarity.

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I disagree completely. The quality of an image is extremely important to consider when picking an illustration. And I really don't think an in-joke is going to confuse most people. Just a Face and a Caption is one of the more self-explanatory parts of the TVTropes lexicon, and if "Jedi Mind Trick" is well known enough to be the trope namer, I think a picture of the ur-example isn't going to go over most people's heads.
The Superman one works, but I don't think it needs the first panel, and it feels kinda casually racist?
Quality of an image as far as I'm concerned is related to the digital qualities (artifacts, blur, etc.) of the image, not the artistic ones. This is entirely an artistic style, and it's a much better image than any other suggestion.
Check out my fanfiction!I still prefer the YAFGC picture to the one suggested above. One panel is more concise than three.
x 4: There are a few terms that are sometimes used interchangeably here, but they have different implications:
- Clarity: How well does it illustrate the trope? Are all required elements there?
- Quality: Is the image not blurry, grainy, blocky, worn, dark, or poorly scanned?
What you're concerned with is art style, which is purely personal opinion. I think if a work uses Stylistic Suck in some way but otherwise illustrates a trope just fine, the only valid reason to change it would be if something demonstrably better was available. And Star Wars being the Trope Namernote is actually an argument not to have a pic from that work because it tends to make tropes look more narrow.

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I think 20 is the best one.
I'm quite happy with 20.
(Annoyed grunt)You can call it an art style if you want, but to me it just looks like an unfinished picture.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
Yeah, I think just a picture of Obi Wan waving with his hands is not going to work, because it doesn't actually show the trope in action. While I usually like meta-humor, we can do better than this.
I'll offer the last panel from this as a replacement.
