This is Acceptable Targets, but "hypocritical" given real life context. It's astonishingly pointless even for a subjective trope, and has only collected a tiny number of wicks since being launched. It's also created the inevitable arguments about RL topics.

Let's burn it and sweep up the ashes.

I'd also like to point out that "inevitable" is played... pretty fast and loose here.

While I'd say mothers-in-law definitely count as an Acceptable Target, why is that inevitable? Lots of people don't have mothers. Lots of people don't marry. The "other drivers" section has a single real example, the other two are actually "Prius owners" which, I daresay, is not inevitable. Ditto "people who have failed the driving exam." Or Old Money... if that's inevitable, then lovely! But it's not.

[up] Yeah, that's also problematic.

Cutting is the way to go.

To begin with, I think any Acceptable Targets type that doesn't have any examples should be treated like a trope without examples. That is, remove. Probably also goes for any with less than three examples.

Sorting can certainly be better.

Merge back with Acceptable Targets.

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"

Bad name, questionable premise, lots of general examples...... where did I put that flamethrower?

Awful text! The assumption that everyone, "God willing", will belong to all of those groups at some point is at best incorrect, and at worst offensive. For many people, things like not getting married, not having kids, or not driving a car are personal and/or ethical choices, so saying these things should be "inevitable" is horribly normative.

Even though the page tries to claim these are universal facts of life, actually it seems to have been written from the point of view of a middle-class American. I'm not from the USA, and I've never driven a car (because the public transportation in here is good enough that you don't need one) nor attended "high school" or "college" (because we have a different kind of schooling system). And of course many people in the US don't go to college either.

I agree; a merge would be best.

....so, do we have enough support to drop an Exterminatus on this trope?

Wicks have been neutralized.

Leaving a note in discussion, then cutlisting.

Edit: Done, so closing.
