Right, I'm confused by the Religious Bruiser trope.. Particularly the first two lines:

A practitioner of The New Rock & Roll or The Big Guy turns out to be heavily religious. Bonus points if he is a priest/pastor/whatever.

Despite the name, needs not be physically strong.

..and also the page image, which as far as I can tell, has not been run through Image Pickin'.

Now, the remainder of the description is a bit clearer, and basically, what I'm taking away from it and the trope name is that the character in question is some kind of fighter who happens/turns out to be religious. The problem I'm having is that other 'bruiser' tropes (Lightning Bruiser, Emotional Bruiser) have a strong taste of The Big Guy + additional trait, so unless I'm missing something important, that does not mesh with either the image or the part of the description I quoted. At the very least, the trope name sounds like there should be a martial connotation, however small.

I know that Tropes Are Flexible, but this is confusing. Also, not sure if this is where this question belongs, but I figured I'd check first if I'm not seeing something obvious there.

The way I read it, it's about the contrast of someone who looks like a bruiser you somehow wouldn't expect to be religious, but is.

I see what you mean. The name, description, and picture all feel a bit at odds to me. The name and the first part of it really make it sound like it's about when a huge guy is religious. Then it says that part isn't important, and admits the name is non-indicative.

It ends up saying badass so much, I wonder if simply Religious Badass would be better. Or maybe Surprisingly Religious Badass.

Religious Delinquent or something I feel is closer. I feel like there's a word that would better get across the idea of someone who isn't typically expected to be religious, but I'm drawing a blank.

"Despite the name, needs not be physically strong."

Says it's a bad snowclone. Every other "Bruiser" trope specifically means physically strong.
