Shiny Pokemon are confirmed ingame!

It's possibly just Magikarp and Gyarados at the moment (due to the Red Gyarados), though. In any case, from what I can tell so far...

• Shinies do not look shiny on the map; you don't know it's shiny until you battle it.
• The same pokemon might be shiny for someone and not shiny for others (spoofers can't get all the shinies this way).
• If you are about to transfer a shiny, the game gives a warning.

Also, the event Magikarp hat is free in the shop, so grab it!

I guess that depends on where you live. The last thing I want is more Magikarp.

To date, I have caught a total of 3177 Pokemon. 1121 of those are Water type. 251 of which are Magikarp. That is 7.9% of my overall total, and 22.4% of the waters.

Huh... I was thinking last night that it appeared that they tweaked the color palettes of many 'mons (Gyarados was most obvious - seems distinctly darker in shade) - I wonder if that was done to make shinies stand out more.

Also, not sure if anything needs to be done to claim the Magikarp hat - it was already in my inventory when I looked this morning.

More candies mean more Gyarados, and stronger Gyarados at that if you happen to have the spare stardust. Seems like a win-win, if you ask me.

I don't know about "many". Magikarp and Gyarados, sure, but the rest look the same. Those two are also the only ones my client had to download again when the event started.

I've definitely noticed a palette shift on every blue 'mon I've dealt with - and given that it's the water festival right now, I've seen plenty of those. Gyarados, Vaporeon, Tentacool, and Marill all look darker on my screen. The orange in Magikarp looks more saturated, and Pidgey looked a bit tweaked as well on my screen. Admittedly, Murkrow looked the same, but that was already pretty dark.

Water festival, huh? I was wondering why there were so many Water-types around. There aren't usually that many in my neighborhood.

I haven't even gone to the waterfront in the area and it's been overflowing with water-types. I'm a little surprised at what I've been running into so much - tons of Squirtle, several Qwilfish and Mantine, and way more Omanyte than I first anticipated. I even saw a Lapras, but the dang thing despawned right as I tapped it. Oddly, no Totodiles for me so far - it's the one Water-type line I've seen nothing of so far (I even got a bunch of Remoraids and a wild Octillery, which was the last Gen 2 Water type I was missing).

It's kind of funny how on the first day of the promotion, I got two new Fire-types (Houndoom and (finally) Cyndaquil) and no new Water-types.

Today, though, was another story. My school and local Walmart was utterly flooded with Water-types. I probably caught nearly two dozen Magikarp, along with four Mantine, and I finally caught some Seels (all of which had some really good stats at that), among other numerous Water-Type Pokémon. (And a Dunsparce.)

Going to the aquarium was a godsend - not only did I find tons of Water-types, but I finally loaded up on Totodiles. I even ran into a Croconaw, but it sadly ran away.

Also, enjoyed that not only does the 7-day streak guarantee an evolution item, but the sidebar puts that evo item on top so that you know what it is. And now, I have a Bellossom.

I think today one of the worst things which could happen to me in Pokemon Go happend. I had 10 Gyms and lost all but 1 of them in a span of 2 hours and by the time i managed to go to them again my team had captured them again and got them to level 10. There aren´t many gyms around my area (maybe something like 12-15) and they generaly stay in one color rather long. Also i don´t have friends in another team so i can´t get my gyms back that way. Basicly i don´t know how i´m going to get coins now...

I'm lucky if I can maintain a gym for three hours (and it's not uncommon that I can't keep a gym for 10 minutes), and the only way I ever get more than 10 coins in a cash-out is if I happen to go to an area where the gyms are clustered. My advice to you is stock up on combat items and make an assault.

Unrelated, odd thing I noticed... they've started attaching dates to eggs. But oddly, it's the same date each time - May 16, 2016 (for the curious/those who don't recall - that's when the beta launched). And it's not just the old eggs getting that date - I spun a brand-new 2 km egg, and it had that date, too. I mean, it would be pretty convenient to cycle out some of those old eggs to make room for what are likely some fine Gen 2 hatches... if only I knew which ones were the old eggs - they're probably all Drowzee anyhow.

May 15th for me (which is also my birthday, bizarrely). It's the date that the beta opened, so it's when eggs first became available.

Strange...the new egg I just got yesterday didn't have a date attached to it. Did this just start today?

Seeing as you're in an earlier time zone from me, I suspect that might explain the date discrepancy.

As for the dates on the eggs, I noticed it two days ago, but forgot about it until this morning. I first thought that all of my eggs were listed as from last May because it was a placeholder date for eggs prior to whenever they started listing those dates, but the new egg this morning also had the date.

EDIT: If it helps, my phone is currently running version 0.59.1 of the Android version of the app - if dates on eggs aren't showing for you, maybe you're running a different version.

Problem is i cant make an assault since my team already controls the gym at Level 10. My best hope is to catch the moment when another team takes them down, but that could be a long wait (very few players in my region even weak gyms can last a week or more)

My eggs actually have the correct dates but the wrong locations.

I actually managed to hold a gym for the very first time earlier this month. True, by the end of the day I no longer had it, but it felt good to actually hold one for at least a little while.

They only recently got the locations right on my version with that 0.59.1 update. It would frequently show where I caught things as one town over up until this update. Said update even got things retroactively right - I went through for a couple things that I could verify off the top of my head (stuff I've only encountered once or twice) and those suddenly were corrected.

Also, I'm not sure what it is, but I'm suddenly seeing a surge in Ground and Rock types in my area. Geodudes are suddenly becoming uncommon, and I've seen other rarer ones spawn around - Sudowoodo ran from me, I found Donphan this morning, and I ran into two Onix yesterday (which was distinctly notable because I had only seen one prior to yesterday in the 9 months I've played, and even that required going way out of my way to find). I'm not sure if it's random chance or something else is going on; anyone else see their spawns get unusual in the last couple days?

Finally, got another evolution item from a random spin yesterday - another Sun Stone. Guess I better hunt around for a Sunkern nest (I got Bellossom from the last one I got).

There was a new update today. Now I'm seeing the egg locations. (And they do all say May 16th 2016).

Anything else new with this update? Or is it just more minor text fixes?

No hidden stuff, exactly. More functionality was added for redeemable passcodes, presumably for item giveaways like in Ingress, and apparently there's now code for an "Inbox" which will contain "Announcements", "Admin Notes" and "Game Events".

A "raid"? What would that be in the context of Pokémon Go?

Also, I've been hearing rumors that all but confirm an Easter event in Go. Don't know what they entail, though.

In the original trailer, the Mewtwo battle was referred to as a raid. That said, given the context of the other new calls, it probably refers to the gym overhaul coming in the near future. Since we know that the second big update of the four promised this year (Gen 2 being the first) is a gym overhaul, and that Niantic's latest post mentions "all new cooperative social gameplay experiences" coming in the Spring, I'm guessing that players will be able to declare "raids" on certain gyms to pull a Gondor Calls for Aid.

Yeah, went from 10 gyms down to 3 overnight. And now when I go back to claim the 7 I lost, it's level 10 Mystic with Blissey's ALL THE FUCKING TIERS. How the hell did these fuckers get 10 Blisseys this quick to spam these gyms? (and yes, I checked, it's the same people at all these gyms) Taking down 1-2 Blissey's in a single gym run is tough, but 10 in a row for 7 gyms?!? Fuck me.
