”Space, the final frontier…”

...no, that’s corny.

“In a galaxy far, far… no wait, that’s worse.”’

“Alright, sod it, let’s just get the story started. ‘Cause y’know? These little adventures usually end up being a mess in one way or another, somethin’ fun I’ve learnt. This one’s the craziest yet, given the little rustbucket the Federation’s giving us…. I’ll just do this one official for now. Computer, Captain’s Log, stardate…”

No, not much of a primer? That’s fine, I’m just too lazy to write it 100% in character. So, here it is. It’s a little pet project I’ve been waiting to give the boot since I picked up FTL: Faster Than Light in the Steam Summer Sale, been thinking that the universe is fairly rich for RP, purely because the lore is so thin on the ground and ripe to be added by players.

So, what’s our little hook? Well, we’re gathering together to a call by Cpt. Caitlin Morano, why? Because in these strange days, where whispers of a rebellion spread like wildfire something has to be done about the insane number of pirates that crop up when there’s unrest like this and whilst the Federation can’t be seen to be making pre-emptive strikes against them, they can sure quietly ‘sponsor’ a band of mercenaries who were thrown together for exactly the purpose of pirate-hunting, although any who see the state of the ship they supplied migbt call sponsoring a generous term.

Honestly, there’s not too much to the RP. It’s got a fairly straightforward plot to it, where we fight up against our veritable crap-pot of a ship, whilst there are some more developments planned down the line, this is really made to mostly be able to go anywhere.

So, if anyone’s interested, here’s a little framework for a signup. Since this was rather hastily thrown-together primer on a mobile, trust me when I say more details to come about the characters involved and our little ship (Originally called the HMSS Ambitious although we will rechristen the girl ourselves), a 70-year old retrofitted Kestrel-class ship that was decomissioned with the fall of the British Space Empire)… just, tomorrow morning. I promise. Also, markup, since that’s not being kind to me on my phone either.

  • Name: Surely no explanation needed gere, right?
  • Age: See above.
  • Race: See also above.
  • Speciality: Everyone has that one thing they’re really good at. Are you a weapons operator? A repair expert? Hell, we’re even going to need a doctor here since we don’t have the luxury of an automated medbay with nanobots.
  • History: Keep it brief, but feel free to make up whatever lore you find appropriate for your purposes.
  • Pesonality: Again, this is best kept brief, because we want to see this in actions, not a massive description.

Uh, yeah. That’s kinda it actually. Go nuts (and I promise I’ll upgrade the sheet tomorrow, I swear!)

No, my 10pm mobile phone remembering skills are not on point it seems. Crystalman isn't permitted but anything else goes.

Also, I totally forgot I had planned with some friends to go to the pub today and as I'm not sober, it might be best to defer those edits until tomorrow.

Welp, here's a thing, I guess :P

Name: Mikoto Nakamura

Age: 32

Race: Human

Speciality: Doctor - He trained as a surgeon, specifically.

History: Billed as something of a genius, he yearned for something to really challenge him. And for a while, learning to be a doctor was what filled that gap. But supposed power over life and death got dull surprisingly quickly, so what else was there to do? The answer came from a small world embroiled in a small-scale conflict with a spaceship full of pirates, using experimental weaponry (including a set of giant robots). It was fun enough, what with the opportunity to mess with the planet's defenders with their own tech, and the pirates with the assumption he was on their side, but eventually, he was ready to move onto the next thing.

And what was this next thing? Well, given he'd made an enemy of people with rather frightening technology, and a bunch of pirates, the next thing was finding a way to get as far away as possible.

Personality: He is, first and foremost, completely self-serving. Even if it endangers lives - including his own - if it's fun, it's happening. He doesn't exactly play well with others, either, although he's not completely stupid - if it benefits him in some way to do something, he'll probably do it. After all, no point in being stubborn if it gets him sucked out of an airlock.

(busts down door) DID SOMEONE SAY FTL?

  • Name: Audrey Chance
  • Age: 18
  • Race: Human
  • Speciality: Repair
  • History: Audrey was born on some nameless backwater planet in the middle of nowhere, and originally she intended to stay on said backwater planet as she grew up, got married, had a child, became old and died. Unfortunately, some whacky pirates kind of threw a wrench into that plan. Her planet got attacked, her hometown got blown up, her mom got blown up, her sister is still missing, you know, the works. Like any good citizen, she immediately signed up for the Federation military. Unfortunately, she is not suited to the military at all.
  • Personality: Audrey is like a bird—happy and pretty until you try to get close, at which point she flies off because screw humans. She is anxious, cautious to a fault, and is primarily concerned with her own safety. But when you get her to open up (and when no one is shooting at each other), she is warm, kind, emphatic and actually kinda cute.

Name: Emily Cherenkov.

Age: Who even knows. Emily doesn't. (Probably somewhere around the equivalent to 25-30 in human years; normally the Zoltan keep very good records of a citizens age, birth date, etc., but Emily doesn't really care to check them.)

Race: Zoltan.

Specialty: Shield operator.

History: Emily was born on the Zoltan homeworld, and started causing trouble almost from day one. She was always the kid who shouted their question in class without raising their hand, which continued for a good while, until she got a reprimand from the school head himself. Even after that, she was always a ball of energy, unlike most other Zoltan, who were generally staid and quiet. After years of feeling like Zoltan society was conspiring to bring her down, Emily decided that enough was enough, and after she spent a year or so studying how shields worked, she got herself off that rock as soon as possible and started taking jobs aboard various ships. Eventually, she managed to get herself onto the same station as one Captain Moreno, and was recruited as the shield technician for the HMSS Ambitious.

Personality: Loud, brash, outgoing, friendly; basically everything your average Zoltan is not. Emily loves talking with people and learning about them and their culture. She's also eternally curious; if there's some sort of weird problem with the engine, or an undiscovered planet, or even an abandoned space station that's still sending out a signal, Emily will almost always be the first person in line to go check it out. It helps that she glows in the dark.

  • Name: "Kremvh" Kremvhazippakkrizz of the Red Iron Brood
  • Age: 14
  • Race: Mantis
  • Speciality: Sub-system Operator (Sensors and Door)
  • History: This comparatively ancient Mantis served aboard the Engi courier ship "ESS Waifu Express" and Zoltan diplomatic convoy "ZSS Gunboat Diplomacy", Kremvh had his bloodthirsty instinct ironed though teachings of peace, the power of friendship, and generous consecutive application of Mind Control.
  • Pesonality: Metropolitan, eloquent and learned. Kremvh has an aversion to duplicity, wanton bloodshed and brash manners.

Well shit I meant to get this out sooner. Oops.

  • Name: J-913, or Jim if you prefer.
  • Age: This bot has been around for about 9 Earth years. However, saying as engis technically don't have childhoods, they are perfectly capable of doing their job.
  • Race: Engi.
  • Speciality: Engine operator. He's an engineer, if you will.
  • History: Jim was created on an entirely mechanical planet with almost no lifeforms in the traditional sense. The only beings there were fellow engis. Like other engis, Jim was properly educated. And like other engis, education was all that really mattered to Jim. They primarily focused on how to repair, operate, and maintain engines. They weren't a very big fan of rebels and decided to join the federation, again like other engis. And now here they are, ready to put their extreme engineering knowledge to the test.
  • Personality: Jim is an all-work-no-play kind of guy. They always put caring for the ship before interacting with his shipmates. However, when they finally do interact with their comrades, their lackluster social skills and hardcore pessimism come into play. They can talk to others just fine, but they usually fail to pick up on cues and tend to bring out the worst in a situation. In other words, they tend to make lemons out of lemonade.

Nakamura
Does the doctor have an awesome theme? Accepted

DID SOMEONE SAY FTL?
YES, YES I DID. Just a note though, this RP is meant to take place pre-Rebellion, although I'm pretty sure those zany pirates can take place of the Rebels? [[yellow:Pending]]

Emily Cherenkov.
I like the idea of a character so inattentive they literally forgot their own age. Accepted

Kremvhazippakkrizz
I think we should be insistent on using his whole name, even if it was likely created by headbutting a keyboard. Accepted

hardcore pessimism
SOLD

I know nothing about FTL, but I like the roleplay. Can I still join?
Normally I'd say "no" but tbh, FTL is basic as they come and this isn't exactly a super-serious RP, so go for it. Just check on the Wiki and make sure you're boned up on your races (and maybe the ships)

Fuck fuck fuck-

Goddamn it, Plum, gimme a clearer heads up next time! Completely missed it ;w;

  • Name: Uyiles Uyiele
  • Age: 43
  • Race: Token Slug
  • Speciality: His main talent lies not in the fact he can keep a ship running, but in the fact that he's an excellent con artist and a general smooth talker. He's also somewhat experienced with weapons and shields, but would rather give either task to someone else if he could help it. Really, he's only there to scam shopkeepers.
  • History: Do you know the definition of 'Irony'? The act of saying one thing, but meaning the opposite? Well, that's kind of how Uyiles wound up in this mess. Originally actually part of a small pirate crew that pretended to be an honest weapons merchant, Uyiles found him and his crew to go up in flames after taking on a mantis warship by accident. They'd coincidentally wound up on a slug planet that had allied themselves with the Federation after crashing. He'd managed to talk his way out of being associated with his former crew, but was then looking for work. Apparently, the Federation wanted mercenaries to fight Pirates. In a bout of inspiration, Uyiles sarcastically remarked that he'd 'Loved to fight pirates whom he had just managed to cut ties with'. Funnily enough, some military recruiters actually heard this. So came the tale of how the slug was shipped off to serve aboard a barely functional ship.
  • Pesonality: Smooth talking, immoral and a bit of a sarcastic jerk. If you said you liked this particular slug for their personality, well, you're lying. Hardcore. Still, the crew tolerates him for whatever reason and his background as a pirate may have some use. Maybe.
