Einstein's Laboratory (Briefing Group)

Lillie simply nodded in response to Mother, before her attention turned back to the conversations at hand. She couldn't help but sympathize with all the people skeptical of Einstein's plan to teleport them all into the air and entrust their lives to a parachute; she wasn't sure how well that'd work, either. Then again, it wasn't like they had bird Pokemon here to provide a simpler solution; Mother didn't have any, and she didn't remember Sabrina having any either.

Granted, none of this was really relevant to what she'd be doing, and not many people were discussing that part of it.

"...So, what kind of supplies would we be looking for...?" she asked as soon as there was some room in the conversation.

Meanwhile, Nebby had slumped by Lillie's foot, looking extremely bored indeed.

"Pew...." it complained.

Then its eyes settled on the older girl whose clothing seemed to be changing fairly rapidly. Finding this sight to be considerably more interesting than all the people chatting about something it didn't understand, it perked right up and floated over for a closer look.

Momiji

"Hey there little cloud face thing... You're way too cute to be a akashita..." Mumbling as she glanced down at the cute little legendary Pokemon, Momiji plucked her familiar and plopped it right in front of the tiny thing. The derpy faced bear flailed for a moment after it was dropped and fixed its innocently whistling owner with a glare before turning its attention on over to Nebby, flashing a thumbs up before holding out its hand in a gesture of good will.

Einstein's Laboratory

"If you don't trust yourselves to fall near each other with a chute, you can always drop together in a supply crate," Tanya said to Kashira with a laugh. "That entire base wasn't there a month ago, so everything that power plant is connected to is on its own grid and isolated from their civilian infrastructure. Not like the Soviets would waste a dedicated and stable power supply on the proletariat, anyway."

"Of course, no offense is to be taken, I am well aware of the limitations of my own machine," Einstein said to Sabrina. "This is but a prototype I assembled to address certain issues. My previous Chronosphere was precise to the micrometer, but had a minor problem that caused a rift in the space-time continuum to appear, a chrono vortex rampaging and destroying everything in its path.... But now I fixed that problem at the expense of accuracy. I also have designs for a new and improved version that must be built in a more optimal location. Germany is very unstable gravitationally, but the perfect place is on a tiny island in the Florida Keys, just a few short kilometers from Soviet Cuba. In the meantime, the solution is parachutes!"

"I may be an old man, but I like to think I still know a few tricks," he said brazenly to Zasalamel, walking past a dozen shipping crates until he came to one which he opened up, revealing a score of parachutes within. "These parachutes, however, are not one such trick. Perhaps I can have Agent Tanya instruct you in their use if you do not think your compatriots are up to the task?"

"In any case," he said, clasping his hands together. "I can have the settings configured momentarily, and let you be on your way. You seem to be in a bit of a hurry to eliminate Kane, so I will not hold you unnecessarily. Those of you who want to go to town are more than welcome to as my personal guests, so that none of the soldiers give you a rough time."

Lusamine

"Why, all sorts of things, Lillie," Lusamine said to Lillie. "There's food, clothing, medicine, batteries, stationery, books, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Just think of all the things you use every day to make your life easier that we don't have back in that positively drab tower."

Bewear stomped on over to where Momiji and her familiar were standing, coming to a sudden stop. She glanced down at the funny bear-looking thing. "Bewaaaa?"

KOS-MOS, Einstein's Laboratory — U.M.N. Mode

For her part, KOS-MOS appeared to have been staring a blank hole into the nearest wall ever since giving Kashira (and likely Cole) a brief primer on their newest host and the situation, her artificial irises having switched back to a deep red hue. Having drifted apart a little ways from the rest as the discussion on the morality of Einstein's choice had carried on, the blunette seemed just as thoroughly distracted during the initial briefing, though she was truthfully listening in from multiple sources.

Rather than wasting her energy arguing, she had been spending her time perusing every stream of electromagnetic communication she could pick up, polka, weather forecast, and Tanya the elder too, of course. Just as soon as Hitler's murderer offered to let any Climber who wished to stay behind lounge in his lab, however, a short, simple, and overjoyed message of text (and audio, where possible) was sent out to every radio station, walkie-talkie, pager, cellphone, and other wireless comm connection or receiver in range.

Hello, World!

"Doctor," KOS-MOS prompted, turning toward the famed scientist immediately following her broadcast of said jubilant greeting, "at some point before we leave, I suggest we establish a means of communicating with yourself and the others once we reach the enemy base. Although we will likely need to maintain silence on all frequencies, it will still be necessary in the case of an emergency. Additionally, I would like to volunteer as a communications relay for such purpose. I should be able to send and receive as heavily-encrypted a data stream as you may require."

"I am capable of instructing anyone requiring an explanation in the use of parachutes," she offered soon after, returning her gaze to the group at large, "however, as it is highly improbable the majority of our party parachutes on a regular basis, even those already trained in their use, practice would likely be beneficial for everyone. Additionally, it would be wise to review our respective capabilities as a group before we leave, so that everyone is able to contribute according to their ability and have weaknesses compensated for according to their need."

"For example," she continued, holding her suddenly-glowing right arm aloft, "I am able to transform my right arm into a sword-" and indeed, the entire appendage up past her elbow was now a monochrome blade so long the point brushed the floor, "and back, with each transformation taking approximately one second. My left arm holds the same function with respect to a high-velocity missile launcher akin to a bazooka. I also possess a plasma pistol and a relatively mundane knife constructed with advanced alloys." The robotic woman de-sworded her hand to draw out the former and bent briefly to unsheathe the latter by way of demonstration, then re-holstered both.

"And..." KOS-MOS pushed her hands out to the sides and smiled in anticipation, then grasped at something invisible and, with twinned shimmers of blue light preceding them, pulled out a paired set of very heavy Gatling guns. She was quite careful not to point them even slightly in anyone's direction, of course, but the gynoid did beam down at them affectionately as she continued explaining. "These are one of my earliest and most effective weapon sets, referred to in the singular and plural as 'G-Shot'. They possess an extraordinarily high rate of fire, and I am able to retrieve them from or dismiss them to a personal hyperspace pocket at any time." Relaxing her grip, she did just that.

"Beyond the aforementioned and baseline enhanced strength and endurance, I also possess a small number of other specialized weapons, but they are not suitable for demonstration in a non-hostile environment," she concluded, clasping her hands behind her back as she finished and shooting the rest an expectant look.

Einstein's Laboratory

Einstein scratched his chin. "Omega program?... no, that's the wrong haircut...."

"The Doc can hook you up with comm units," Tanya cut in over the computer before that train of thought could continue. "They're made to self-destruct if you die so don't worry about them being found by the Soviets. They'll dissolve just like your parachutes."

"Once you've eliminated Kane, a group your size introduces a few challenges for extraction options, but we already have a few in place from previous operations that should work for you," she continued, as the map shifted and zoomed as it focused on the city of Sarajevo. "The easiest and safest escape option requires being undetected. Just go to the auto mechanic indicated on this map, and ask the owner if five tires costs less Rubles than four. He'll respond that it's a bit of an odd request, and then you confirm by saying you're not a fan of even numbers. An agent will make the accommodations to smuggle you out of the country."

She cleared her throat. "Of course, if you've caught a bit of heat and can't make a clean getaway to the city, you've still got some options. First, any of you familiar with commandeering vehicles? I'd personally prefer stealing a fighter from the nearest airfield and flying that back, but if you lack the skills you can settle for a truck or tank. It's a brisk 400 klicks to Austria, after all. If that's still too far, we have a plan in place for a group of NightHawk helicopters to nearby Fojnica, roughly 30 miles northwest." As she spoke, the map kept adjusting automatically to indicate the locations in question. "They're stealthed against radar so they can be standing by to pick you up, but they're not going to drop down in the middle of a firefight. Get clear, send up a signal flare, and they'll move in in. Climb aboard and kick back."

The map zoomed out again, this time far enough out that Italy was visible across the sea from Yugoslavia.

"And, failing all of that... well, you can always swim across the Adriatic to Italy."

Asgore - Einstein Lab

Asgore had followed everyone into the laboratory. Looking at the place, it certainly looked less inviting than Dr.Alphys'. People didn't waste any time in getting information and, as the conversation went, he was getting more and more lost. Not only only that but some of the things being discussed were rather concerning, such as the whole parachute plan.

The king merely remained standing in place, quietly taking in everything that was being discussed and not being able to come up with anything to add to it.

"Some training would be prudent." Sail or not, Claw would rather not actually crash down from 10000 feet. Cats don't survive falls that high.

"Anyway, I have doubts we can proceed in stealth after the ruckus we'll likely cause at the base." He hummed, rubbing his chin in thought. "Those helicopters sound quite enticing, but would they not be traced back to you? That kind of discovery is bound to start a war, Kane or no."

"Otherwise I'm out of questions." Frankly, he was itching for some action. The world of elves mostly deprived him of fighting which had its good sides, but then again...

Sabrina, Einstein's Lab

As KOS-MOS made her speech, Sabrina thought for a moment... Namely about communication. Sabrina had not broached the subject of her telepathy as of yet, but that was because she was unsure it would work on KOS-MOS. She was a robot, which did not exist on her world. Sure, there were Pokemon that were mechanical like Magneton, Pokemon that were pure computer code like Porygon, and Pokemon that could take control of electronics like Rotom. Heck, there was no clear reason why Voltorb and Electrode exist other than the fact they started appearing when Pokeballs became technological and no longer made from Apricorns. Well, there was no time like the present. Sabrina walked up the KOS-MOS.

"KOS-MOS... I am going to try something," Sabrina said to the space gynoid. "I want to... confirm something, and I need your help for it."

With KOS-MOS's approval, Sabrina would attempt to send a telepathic message to KOS-MOS specifically, Are you receiving me, KOS-MOS?

Heavy - Out of the Communication Loop

The giant had listened in on the plan to murder this Kane and get back to the tower without losing his head. He heard the robot woman talk about her armaments and was impressed at the sight of her "G-Shot." It seems the good old minigun got appreaction somewhere, not that her other weapons were no less impressive. He felt that he should show off his as well, "This is my gun. I like to fire this gun at enemies like little men they are. I could go on." He pulled out his shotgun, "This is for when my gun has no more bullets." He was interested to hear what everyone else has for weapons, if they have not already done so.

Reimu

Reimu thought about Einstein and Tanya's words. A god of reality, whose work could be seen in the natural laws...a curious concept. Perhaps gods and science could coexist under certain circumstances.

"Thank you, I will attempt to make contact with your God of Science at a later time, then."

Apparently, there had been a call of having everyone introduce their skills and abilities. Might as well.

"I am a shrine maiden," Reimu said to explain to everyone. "I can communicate with the gods and borrow their power to perform services such as sealing evil spirits, exterminating youkai, and bestowing blessings and purifications upon others. I can also fly, so I won't be needing a...chute."

Einstein's Laboratory

Everyone else, except for Mother, seemed to just be too focused on the group focusing on the actual mission to answer Lillie's question. Assuming Mother's answer was the best one, however, their trip to the town was more to grab things for the Tower rather than to get anything for the mission at hand.

"...So it's not for the mission, then? All right...." she replied, then managed another smile. "I'm ready to leave, as soon as we decide who's going where...."

At that point her eyes settled on Asgore, who seemed to be rather lost at all the discussion. She couldn't blame him; she was having a bit of trouble following it herself. Well, there wasn't any harm in going to see how he was doing, was there? If nothing else, Asgore was the first person she met here, and if she felt comfortable talking to anyone else besides Mother he was a good choice. Besides, it wasn't like anyone in the briefing was paying much heed to her.

At that, she approached the goat king and looked up at him with a smile. "So, Asgore...are you planning on going with them, too...?"

Nebby, meanwhile, didn't quite seem to get the bear's gesture, instead opting to just hop around happily at the prospect of meeting a new friend.

"Pew!" it cried. Upon noticing Bewear, it turned to the bigger bear before flailing one of its ears in the little bear's direction. "Pew!"

Asgore - Einstein's Laboratory

The sound of someone calling his name immediately snapped Asgore out of his thoughts and he began looking around for the source of it, until he looked down a little and saw Lillie standing there.

"Oh, Lillie..." he said, then pondering about the question she asked, "Truthfully, this whole matter of infiltrating a place and using parachutes to arrive there... I do not think I am very qualified for it."

The monster king let out a rather long, despodent sigh. It was the first mission he would have the opportunity to take part in, but then it turned out to be something he was really unsure about how he would be able to help. All things considered, he would probably be more of a liability than anything else.

Kashira Lavellan - Ways and Means

More details were taking shape. Evidently whatever artifice - or magic, she was still slightly doubtful about exactly how it all worked - would enable them to speak could be intercepted, much as messengers could be ambushed on the road. The solution was code words, then, and their vocabulary would have to be quite limited. But it would let them communicate. She supposed to meet up after dropping into the area, they'd simply have to pick a suitable landmark and have enough maps for everyone, though she did admit the idea of just piling into a large crate made a certain amount of sense. The destruction of the power source wouldn't endanger more people than needed, that was good as well. And she too doubted that stealth was this group's strength, so whatever these devices were that Tanya had referred to would be the most likely way out. Depending on who had what skills and what happened during the mission, they would have to decide what method of escape to use. And speaking of that, Kosmos' display of weaponry and request for a similar explanation of skill from everyone was well timed.

"I have some skill with battle magic," she said to the room at large, following in the wake of the others. "Fire, lightning, shaping magical force, and some healing. I think anyone who understands this world the best and has weaponry suited to fighting its soldiers should go with the stealth team, while the rest of us provide the distraction. It might also be preferable to have the stealth team be as human-looking as possible. That would increase the chances of going undetected for a little while, at least."

She glanced to Asgore with a little smile.

"I was just thinking the same myself, but perhaps the idea of everyone in a crate has some merit after all."

Theron — is this the part where I show off?

"I think that 'being undetected' might be a tad problematic," Theron said, nodding at Claw. "After all, our plan seems to depend on causing a ruckus while the stealthy team assassinates this Kane. It seems that a forced march toward… Fojnica? What a weird name — anyway, that a forced march toward this village, followed by exfiltration with those 'Night Hawks', is the best plan. I am sure we can hold an area for long enough." He sighed. "As to my capabilities… I'm a hunter at heart; I stalk my prey, then strike. Out of necessity, I know something of the assassin's trade — particularly the art of Marks of Death — and of the shemlen duelling tradition. I have my swords, and a bow, as well as a few poultices, injury kits and bottles of poison. I think that, all that considered, I should go with the infiltration team."

Familiar Meets Pokemon

Looking at the small sentient cloud of space gas and then glancing up at the much bigger if cutesy ursine being, the much uglier in comparison looking Familiar simply shifted its head back and forth for a few moments before putting out another thumbs up towards that large Pokemon's direction. Once that was done with, the scrappy little fellow dug inside his cotton spewing harakiri wound to pull out what appeared to be two cups of Japanese styled custard pudding. Popping open the tops on both containers before holding them out for the two pocket monsters, Kumagai showed off his 'gruff nice guy' persona in a silent display of camaraderie.

Patches, Not Inadequate
With all of these strange folk and their incredible abilities/guns, you'd imagine that our hero might feel a little left out of the party, right? No, of course not! Patches knew his place in the world, and nobody could offer the same services as him. Patches' will was truly Unbreakable, and though he may seem meager in comparison, he knew that he was a vital part of the team.

"I've got me some weapons. My spear, shield, a couple blades...but if you've lived for as long as I have, you learn a lot more. Traps, lockpicking, stealth, and so on. Hardly amazing compared to...some of the other things," he said while decidedly not looking over at KOS-MOS, "but I think I can help you all out."

Then, the white-and-red clad girl offered her own services as a very, very suspect sounding profession. So incredibly suspect, that he had to ask her outright, a slightly puzzled expression on his face. "What are you, a cleric or something?" he asked Reimu.

Einstein's Laboratory

"That's why the helis aren't going to come in and pick you up unless the coast is clear," Tanya said to Claw. "They can get in and out without being detected, but if you're being fired at by a hundred conscripts they can't exactly pick you up without risking everything. But even if you're being followed, if you can just break away long enough to get clear and out of sight for a few minutes you should be clear for a quick evac. So any more questions or are you guys ready to go bury some Soviets? I've got to leave for a mission in a second so make it quick."

"If you can do such a thing, I'd quite like to know the results," Einstein said to Reimu. "In all my years I have not been able to do so. Some say God is dead, some say he still works in mysterious ways, and others still believe in millions of other possibilities."

Lusamine

"Perhaps not this mission, but each one after this. We won't be able to continue on like this if people are cold, hungry, thirsty, or sad," Lusamine said to Lillie. "There isn't too big of a difference if there are thirty-two of us going on this mission instead of thirty, but I'm sure it will make all the difference for Miss Risinn if there are four or five of us instead of just her."

After saying that She cleared her throat and tossed her hair back with a gesture as she approached

"So Mister... Asgore..." she said to the goat king. "I'd like it if you could explain a little about yourself. My daughter seems to see you as a friend of sorts, but you're still a complete stranger. You understand, of course."

"Bwa?" Bewear said, looking at the little bear holding something out to her. Bending down so she could pick it up, Bewear took one of the offered cups and then brought it up to her face so that she could sniff it. After a moment, she opened her mouth and shoved the pudding cup onto her tongue before shutting her mouth again. Remaining expressionless for a few seconds, her eyes eventually shifted.

"Bewa!" she said happily.

"Neither am I," Lillie replied with a frown, "Which is just as well; I don't think the others would let me go even if I wanted to...."

She shook her head. "...Apparently there's a friendly town not too far from here. Mother and I are going there to gather supplies. Assuming anyone ever gets out of this room...." She looked around the area again before turning back to Asgore. "Perhaps if you don't think you're up for the mission, you could join us instead...?"

While Asgore and Mother talked, she looked down to see how Nebby was doing, only to find that once again her companion had wandered off. She let out a sigh that was somewhere between "Oh, not again" and resignation, before quickly looking around to try and find it. Thankfully, she quickly spotted Nebby with Bewear, interacting with an older girl whose clothes seemed to be changing on their own and what appeared to be a smaller bear-like Pokemon that she didn't recognize.

One part of her wanted to go over to Nebby just to make sure it didn't get itself into trouble, but as far as she could tell it didn't look like it was really being a nuisance. Besides, Bewear was there was well. So she simply remained where she was, just making sure to keep an eye on her companion.

"Pew?" Nebby inquired when the small bear pulled out what appeared to be food. It approached, and promptly found itself with the dilemma of accepting the offer without anything that could really be called "hands."

It settled for trying to use its arms to pick up the cup and bring it to its mouth. It didn't quite work, but it was at least able to not spill the pudding all over the floor. Then it did its best to try and get a taste of the pudding.

"Pew~" it said happily with a big smile once it finally succeeded.

Asgore - Einstein's Laboratory

"Of course, you are a mother, after all," said Asgore, smiling and nodding in understanding, "As for myself..." He then tilted his head slightly and stroked his beard, his expression becoming more thoughtful as he tried to think about what to say about himself. "I am the king of monsterkind, we used to live in the Underground, but we currently live in peace with humanity. I enjoy gardening, my favorite food is snails and my favorite drink is golden flower tea." He then looked straight at Lusamine, smiling. "Is there anything more specific you wish to know?"

He then shifted his focus to Lillie, who offered that he could join her to help gather supplies. It seemed like a solid enough idea, if there was any need to carry heavy weights around, he could probably do it without much struggle.

"Well, thank you for the suggestion, Lillie, that does sound like something I can help you with," he said, sounding genuinely grateful.

Seeing that the offerings were taken to so nicely by the two weird organisms, Kumagai couldn't help but puff out his small frame and exhaled with the sort of face that spoke of someone very pleased. Though upon seeing the poor space gas personification was having a bit of difficulty eating, the familiar ruffled around for a clean spoon inside of its stomach before using it to feed more of the dessert to Nebby with friendly patience in his stereotypical silent manner.

"Pardon me for butting into this conversation..." Ambling on over to the group consisting of the mother-daughter duo and the talking goat/cow youkai with all the practiced grace of a used car salesman, Momiji, who was now clad in a a cheap suit that actually quite seemed to work for the woman due to a lack of certain female characteristics, stared at the little gathering with her dead fish eyes before continuing on with her statement. "But do you have room for one more? I'm not one of those people who are all that good at the whole direct combat thing. Also because your familiars made nice with mine so that's two birds with one stones."

Einstein

"I am afraid that is a question I cannot answer definitively," Einstein said to Reimu. "There are countless religions in the world that exist, or have existed. Some with one god, some with many gods, others with no gods at all, and some where any of those can be true at once. The most well-known god around here is known as God. But to the Jews, he is Yahweh, and to the Muslims, he is Allah. Many on another continent are Hindu, which would take too long to explain, and then those who those follow the wisdom of the Buddha, Confucius, belief in the Tao, Shinto - as you can see, there are so many different beliefs to be found, you could read a set of encyclopedias and not even scratch the surface. Speaking of...."

He pointed at a bookshelf, one of many tucked away amongst the seemingly endless junk in the workshop. It was filled with all manner of books, particularly ones on science and philosophy. One one row, however, was a collection of twenty-two pristine looking books. "World Book Encyclopedia, 1971, 22-volume edition, brand new. They can explain the way of this world far greater than one old man is capable of. It was a gift I have not had much time to use myself, consumed as I am in my work. It is yours, now. You may take it with you when you have to return to your home tower."

"I prefer my Encyclopædia Britannica, in any case."

Lusamine

"A king. Do you have a queen, then, and children of your own?" Lusamine asked Asgore. "The challenges and struggles of being a parent are unique and unlike anything most people ever experience, but also more rewarding than any other pursuits. I would not give it up for anything, and I will do anything to make sure Lillie is safe. Are we clear?"

"You currently are at peace with mankind?" she added. "I take it that was not always the case?"

Whatever else was on her mind regarding that subject, she didn't say it, as a strange blond woman approached them.

"We are not an exclusive club, dear. You are more than welcome to join us," she said to Momiji. "My familiar, as you call it, is a Pokémon. Her particular species is a bewear, and she is unrivaled in friendliness."

Claw, Ready

"No further questions." The cat pirate shook his head. Yes, that was about all he needed to know.

Now it was time to finally head out, he hoped. They've spent some time discussing this already, they should be prepared by now.

Reimu

As Einstein went on to describe the religious status of the world, a look of recognition lit up the shrine maiden's face.

"Ah, I know of those," she said cheerfully. "Then this world is not too different from what we back home call the Outside World. To put it in terms familiar to you, I am a Shinto shrine maiden from Japan, and I know a Buddhist priestess and Tao practitioners."

Unfortunately, that did not bode well for the chances of finding the god Einstein was describing. The Outside World had lost a lot of its faith alongside its magic long ago, and something similar might have happened here. How unfortunate.

However, when her attention was directed towards the encyclopedia, Reimu forgot all about that and her eyes widened with surprise. He was truly going to give her all those books?! In Gensokyo, you could perhaps buy a whole house for the value of such fantastic books. She was not one to reject such a generous offer. If they proved impossible to use, she could always sell them to a magician.

"That is most generous of you," she said and bowed politely. "Thank you very much."
