Unbuilt Trope has a really weirdly-worded, inaccurate Yu-Gi-Oh example. The started-out-as-a-horror-manga thing is accurate, but the idea that Yugi would become just as nasty as the villains without his friends wasn't something the anime or manga ever explored, and some of the wording is outright insulting. Sailor Moon also has examples worded to seem insulting.

The entry about Cloud from FFVII also has an unfortunate pothole. "He's literally role playing a hero to escape from his own terrible self-esteem and inability to talk to girls."
