The examples on the page itself aren't complaining or audience reactions, but instead seem to be entirely examples of a town turning against the people who saved them. From looking at the examples, cutting the YMMV bit of the trope entirely seems like it would be the least amount of work.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSounds fine to me. If that's the case, can we get it renamed to something like 'Ungrateful Townspeople' or something? As it is, it sounds like it's related to What the Hell, Hero? or What the Hell, Player?, where it's someone in-universe calling them out on it.
If it's just supposed to be 'townspeople turn against the hero who's helped them, even though that goes against their own self interest', then someone calling them out on it doesn't seem to be a necessary part of the trope and it shouldn't be in the title.

I agree Ungrateful Villagers would be a more fitting title to the trope that actually seems to be here.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickUngrateful Townsfolk feels like a better name to me, but that's more of a lateral synonym shift.
I'm good with the suggested definition change to "people being saved are ungrateful/turn against their savior". Maybe make mentions of Destructive Savior and Hero Insurance in the description.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I feel like OP didn't fully really read the trope's description. is meant to be the reaction of the audience to this situation as opposed to any general character. Which pretty clearly paints it as an Intended Audience Reaction, which isn't YMMV.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Intended Audience Reaction should not be a thing. Also, it seems really shoehorned into the rest of the trope.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI'll throw in a chip for Ungrateful Townfolk. I agree, the audience reaction aspect seems unnecessary.
I'd support a rename to Ungrateful Townsfolk just to get rid of the snowclone.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Another hat for the rename to Ungrateful Townsfolk.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportMaybe a name that is a bit broader? Like Ungrateful Rescuee?
That's narrower, not broader. The townsfolk need not be rescued. They could be healed, they could have had their crops harvested faster.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick+1 for Ungrateful Townfolk.

Do we have consensus for rename?
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Hooked the crowner.
Just came across the trope Hero Killing Community, which seems like a duplicate.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I think we can cut that one. It's got few examples (which we could salvage if they're not listed already), and there are no wicks/inbounds.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportIt's been three days since the crowner went up, and the vote is unanimous. It should be time to call it now.
Calling crowner. Make it so.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickMove is done. Courtesy link to WTHT's related tab here.
Taking care of indices first.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportActually, I'm not sure if Ungrateful Townsfolk was the best name. It makes it sound like the trope is "Hero saves a town from the villain, but the townsfolk refuse to show thankfulness for it", while the description and laconic page seem to define the trope as "Townsfolk betray the hero".
Fix the laconic if it is at issue.
Hero Killing Community has so little it can be cut without consequence. Do I need some form of permission to cut it? Or can I just bit it to the cut list now?
It should probably have its own TRS thread.
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
While it's listed as a normal trope and is described on the Complaining Index as being when someone in-universe complains about the townspeople's ingratitude/stupidity for working against their hero, on the page itself it says its an audience reaction, and most of the examples on the page are of audience reactions.
Personally, it seems like we should just make it a YMMV trope and then move the examples on work pages instead of trying to rework the thing completely.
