Dimensional Warps. A break in the fabric of space-time that occurs due to excessive quantum pressure on a single point in space and time. The results are the formation of an unstable wormhole that bores through the boundaries between universes, sucking any unfortunate soul that wanders into it's path before it closes.

Luckily, the chances of one spontaneously forming anywhere near you is next to nil. You'll have more of a chance of living and becoming a mathematical savant after being shot through the head than you would be sucked into a naturally-occuring Dimensional Warp.

Of course, the multiverse being as large as it is, there would still be a large mass of people who have been sucked in by these things. You know what they say about monkeys typewriting Shakespeare, after all.

As for where the ones sucked in would end up... Well, who knows? It would be a miracle were they to land somewhere that was habitable to their kind, let alone whether it contained civilisation, or what that civilisation would think of the newcomer/s.

And sometimes, when the time is right, when two super-dense dwarf stars in two different universes overlaps the same relative 3D coordinates, when a world is destroyed at the same time as a world is created, does the even more spectacularly rare happen, and several victims of the Warp land in the same general vicinity.

In this case, a sleepy little nordic fishing village, set in a time of steel and paganism, where modern values were but a glint in mad men's eyes, and where blood and violence were but a common fact of life. . .

This is a Mass Crossover RP, much like many other Mass Crossover R Ps. This one has a twist, though. Instead of choosing what characters you'll play as, you'll be given a series of character traits, and therefore you will play the character you know that fits these traits the most.

Let me explain a bit more. If you wish to sign up for this RP, then post a quick message here, saying that you want to participate in this RP. In response, I'll assign you a series of character traits, differentiated by the ";" symbol. The first character you're familiar with that comes to mind is the character you must play.

If, by any chance the character traits given does not match any character you are familiar enough with playing, then ignore the first trait given and then see if any character you're confident in playing comes to mind then.

EXAMPLE: Let's say I give you the traits "Non-human; woman; who fights with a sword; and comes from a novel". If nothing comes to mind, then try:

"woman; who fights with a sword; and comes from a novel";

"fights with a sword; and comes from a novel";

"comes from a novel"

respectively, before asking me for another trait string.

Other than that, and that only characters that have existed in pre-existing media/stories are allowed, anything goes!

And if you have a character you're ready to play that fits the criteria, just post a character sheet in this thread in the following format:

Origin: In the sense of both in the real world and in their world

Name: If they have multiple names or aliases, list all the major/relevant ones, and divide them by slashes (Bruce Wayne/Batman)

Age, gender, and species: I'm putting all these in the same place because they're all short. If you feel the need to explain anything about the species your character is, put it in a secondary bullet point, like so.

Appearance: Written description or image llink is fine

Personality: Both general behaviour and personal life philosophy

Backstory:

Skills/powers/abilities: Anything notable that your character can do. List in secondary bullet points if necessary.

Items: Anything notable that your character brought with them; also describe any special powers the items give the character, when applicable. Again, use secondary bullet points if necessary.

Miscellaneous: Anything that doesn't fit in any of the above categories

After I approve of the sheet, you're ready to start posting IC!

You can still sign up for this even after the RP has started, the only benefit to signing up before the start is being there for the very beginning.

Also, a brief note about tone: While there will still be a whole lot of fighting (you'll be meeting Vikings, after all), in the end I intend this RP to focus more on character interaction and investigation than straight-up fighting. Characters that go beyond Hyper Weight in the Super Weight scale may have to be scrutinised carefully (though I won't outright ban them), and I expect a decent standard of writing. But then again, I guess we wouldn't be Tropers if we didn't have some interest in good storytelling, eh?

The gimmick seems interesting enough, I guess.
I question the 72-hour deadline, though. It's the weekend.

Huh, okay. I guess I might try and give this a shot. I'm not sure how good I am at playing characters from established verses, but lets see where this thing goes.

I'll give this a whirl. I'm curious which character I might end up thinking about that fits the traits given to me.

Can my character come from a character I made in the other R Ps?

[up]

Victor_Skye: Sure, so long as it meets the criteria I sent you.

Alright, so now I've sent all of you guys character trait strings to guide the choice of your character. If you don't have anyone that fits exactly, just whittle down the first trait and see what you get. If I somehow missed one of you guys, just let me know.

Also, make sure you only play characters you are comfortable with. (That is to say, you're confident you can play them accurately without frequently looking up a wiki)

Also, the 72 hour pre-game is maybe a bit too much. So now I'm moving forward the RP start to fifteen hours from now, to allow you guys time to make a character sheet as well as allow more players a chance to jump in at the beginning. Honestly, I was more used to other forums, where the RP landscape there is mostly not as enthusiastic as here, so more time was needed to accumulate players. But obviously, the TV Tropes RP section doesn't have that problem!

[up] I'd love to play, but you need to understand fifteen hours is not a lot of time. Heck, I wouldn't consider it enough time at all. This board attracts players from different timezones and different sides of life. What we usually do is open a sign up thread, wait until we have enough sign ups and then get things started.

There we go. Might sending me some traits?

#23: Apr 16th 2016 at 2:42:40 PM

  • Name: Ryo Bakura/Dark Bakura/Fluffy
  • Age, gender, and species: Late Teens, Male, Human/Evil Spirit
  • Appearance: Surely, a face you can places your trust in!
  • Personality: EEEEVILLLLL!!! In the Saturday morning cartoon sense. Rather than malice, it seems he have a petty streak. He keeps a thin veneer of cultured sophistication and politeness, though in actuality he possesses a crude sense of humor.
  • Backstory: Reincarnation of the most infamous thief in Ancient Egypt. In the modern age, he's a high school student who plays children's card games because that's apparently a thing, huh. When not performing short skits with his domestic partner Marik Ishtar, he plots to do the same thing we do every night, Pinky - try to take over the world! He has not succeeded thus far.
  • Skills/powers/abilities:
    • Children's Card Games
    • Thievery
    • Actor
    • Liar
    • Fashion Sense
    • Excellent Singing Voice
    • British
  • Items:
    • Millienium Ring - with the power "to manipulate the fabric of time and space, bending it to my will in order to create shambling monstrosities that feed on the souls of the living". It also possesses the power of stabbing himself painfully in the chest and gaydar. It is unclear if it is his own magic or the artifact's, but he can place a portion of his soul in other's heart. This may interact with other artifacts, but does not seem to have an effect on its own.
  • Miscellaneous: Due to his nature as a character from a work of parody, his existence is as a caricature. Extreme reactions and flanderisations are the norms rather than the exception.

I'm prepared to nerf this guy as much as needed.

  • Origin: Manhattan, Earth, 2008 ([PROTOTYPE])
  • Name: Alex Mercer, AKA: Blacklight, Codename ZEUS
  • Age, gender, and species: Male, 18 days, Viral Organism
  • Appearance: Something less than human... but also something more.
  • Personality: A quiet introvert with poor social skills, Alex has difficulty sympathizing with or understanding others due to his unique nature. His only emotional connection is to the real Dr. Mercer's sister, and without her influence he is naturally cold and withdrawn. While he does realize the horror of the atrocities he has committed, he is not particularly bothered by them and does not show remorse when killing. Despite this, he shows genuine concern for civilians and unnecessary violence or death is known to provoke his anger. Because of his experiences with militaristic extremists, he is not fond of soldiers, and utterly despises anyone who thinks the end justifies the means.
  • Backstory:
    • In the 1960s a military organization called Blackwatch tested a biological weapon – codenamed Redlight - on the town of Hope, Idaho. It was intended to target specific racial types but an unfortunate mutation caused it to infect every single resident. Its back to the wall, Blackwatch wiped the town off the map both figuratively and literally. The only survivors were a woman, Elizabeth Greene, and her newborn infant son, Codename Pariah. Greene had been the ideal host for the virus, constantly creating new strains within her body and transmitting them with a touch.
    • Forty years later, Greene, Codename Mother, was moved to Manhattan to be experimented on by a company called Gentek. One of Gentek's employees, brilliant scientist Alexander J. Mercer developed a new strain of Redlight codnamed Blacklight. Blacklight had a 99.99% mortality rate and spread rapidly, and for fear of such a weapon coming to public attention, Blackwatch attempted to plug all potential leaks. Mercer, fearing the worst, took a sample of the virus and fled. He was cornered in Penn Station and unleashed the virus in a fit of rage before he was gunned down. Thousands died. Alex woke up in a morgue.
    • During the following 18 days, the Blacklight entity that had taken the identity of Alex Mercer unwittingly unleashed Elizabeth Greene on Manhattan, devoured its way through most of Blackwatch and the US Marine Corps, and wound up saving the city from nuclear destruction. In the process it learned the truth about its origins, which radically altered its ways of thinking. Rebuilding itself from a puddle of biomass, it had been in the process of taking Dana out of Manhattan when he was sucked into the Dimensional Warp.
  • Skills/powers/abilities:
    • Skills: Alex possesses the skills and knowledge of thousands of trained soldiers and prodigal scientists. He is proficient with nearly every kind of firearm or explosive weapon in existence on Earth during the 21st century, highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, and a master of biology and virology.
    • Physical Abilities: While he outwardly appears human, Alex is actually some sort of viral organism. His cells are capable of rapid mutation on the genetic level, allowing any cell to perform any function if needed and enabling him to regenerate from almost nothing provided he has biological matter to work with. He is blatantly superhuman, capable of lifting 100 tons of weight with minimal effort, sprinting up walls at over 200 mph in defiance of physical laws, and withstanding multiple direct rocket impacts with only slight discomfort. Despite being absurdly dense, weighing nearly half-a-ton and still appearing lanky, Alex can glide through the air for short distances and put on an impossible burst of speed in mid-flight. He does not tire, and does not need to eat, drink, breathe or sleep. However, if he is heavily damaged, he will need to consume a living organism in order to heal himself.
    • Consumption and Disguise: Alex is capable of absorbing any organism into himself provided he can mortally wound it first, though for whatever reason he cannot consume his fellow Warp Victims this way. His body rapidly breaks it down into its composite tissues and transforms those into more of his own unique cells. These can be used to repair damage to his body or expelled in an offensive technique he calls a 'devastator' (see below). In the event the organism is intelligent, all memories are somehow transferred to Alex's neural network, giving him total and eidetic knowledge of everything that person could remember. Alex can transform instantly into the last humanoid organism he has consumed, copying them down to the genetic level. This disguise is sufficient to fool voice analysis, retinal scans, fingerprinting, and even genetic testing. The only possible ways to determine if an individual is Alex in disguise are either specialized detectors designed to react to the prescence of Blacklight or Redlight, or the differences in behavior. Even with his ability to absorb memories, however, Alex is not the best actor.
    • Devastator: An area-of-effect technique performed by expelling excess mass. Requires a large amount of biomass to initiate. There are three separate techniques Alex utilizes: a web of tentacles that seek out and eviscerate all nearby heat sources, a wide spread of armor-piercing black spines that erupt from the ground, and a concentrated stream of matter that can cause severe structural damage to large buildings. Because it expends a large amount of organic matter, Alex must either consume additional biomass to prepare for this technique or risk severely weakening himself due to lack of Biomass.
    • Sensory Powers: Alex possesses thermal vision that enables him to see heat sources while also drowning out white noise and increasing focus. He can use a variant he calls 'infected vision' that detects the unusual cells created by Redlight and Blacklight, but this has little use for obvious reasons.
    • Offensive Mutations: Alex can shift his limbs into a substance that appears at times to be either stone or metal but is in fact entirely organic. This substance is stronger than steel by orders of magnitude and is very difficult to break.
      • Blade: A sword-like protrusion, replacing Alex's right arm, that can pierce the plating of heavy armored vehicles with minimal effort.
      • Claws: Elongated bladed fingers used primarily as anti-personnel weapons. Can penetrate kevlar and bisect human beings with no resistance.
      • Musclemass: An enhancement to Alex's limbs that increases his physical strength roughly fourfold.
      • Hammerfists: Multi-hundred pound growths that allow for no manual dexterity but can strike with enough force to shatter a tank in one blow.
      • Whipfist: An extendable tendril measuring several dozen feet, capable of pulling small aircraft out of the sky.
    • Defensive Mutations: Alex is capable of creating a large plate of mass that can withstand fire from the main gun of a tank. This shield can also be used as a battering ram. He also has an armored form that reduces mobility but is bulletproof and far more durable than Alex normally is.
  • Items: None. Even Alex's clothes are just made of biomass.
