Odds that this is actually the future and the kabane are caused by nanomachines?
High I'd say.
The aesthetic is mouth-watering.
Oh my...
Mumei is definitely the biggest badass in the series. Ikoma isn't half bad during the station escape either, but he really needs to work on his style.
Also, where are those zombies kabane are coming from? I mean, just before the departure we're shown literally thousands of them storming the depot at once. There certainly weren't that many people on the station-city.
Figures, that secret of Ikoma's wouldn't remain a secret for long. Nor that he the only one who refused to transform.
Not clear on how being part-zombie results in what we see from Mumei, but whatever
Animation quality is inconsistent, which is unfortunate, since the only other reason to watch it is Mumei
Like you said, it's probably a nanomachines, son attempt at human improvement type deal gone horribly wrong.
Gives your body mad superpowers but fucks up your brain if it gets hit with it.

How does it come out on Kissanime before Amazon Prime, when the latter is supposed to be the primary streamer. Like what the fuck?
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. What happened is that the episode was delayed a week because of the earthquake. Most of the streams held off from putting it up at the usual time to see if they were supposed to, but one of the Chinese sites didn't (Amazon didn't get the streaming rights to asia). They quickly took it down, but it'd already been ripped by then
I am sure there will be some sort of explanation of the details, but honestly...it's a show about Japanese zombies. I think that tells you everything necessary to watch this (or not).
Mumei's awesome. Must be due to the Ackerman blood running through her veins.
Still amuses me that Eren isn't gonna be doing much heroics this time around.
Ikoma's already a much better character than Eren, though. Also we haven't got enough insight on Mumei to judge her character.
So episode 2 is delayed by one week and on top of that episode 3 will be two weeks away. Why do tectonic plates hate anime?
Ikoma's much more Hange than Eren, really.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Eh, there is a lot of Eren in Ikoma. He's more reasonable, though. Which I find makes him kind of dull

Hey, it makes him make less dumb decisions than Eren at least.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Episode 2: the paralles are mounting. Our heros have zombie powers. But there's some sort of cool down so they don't lose control. Ikoma needs to stop get bit, seriously!
I watched the first two episodes last night. This show is actually pretty good. I like the Japanese steampunk thing they have going on.
Apparently this is set in an alternate-world 19th-century Japan which decided to not be isolationist so that's why they're reaping some benefits from the industrial revolution. Also the zombie infection came from Western Europe.
Turns out, there are more challenges in being kabaneri than distrust of humans and a danger of "overheating" when using the powers too much...
Suddenly American engineer. That explains the preview.
And his name is MAX POWER...well, Maxwell Powers, but still. Talk about a cool name.
And wow...Mumei is a lot more arrogant than I thought; I really love how she's let the fact that she's basically the strongest character in the setting go to her head.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Mumei's just a snappy child who's over her head because she can kick everyone's ass. Official material has stated that she's only twelve. I admit the plot took a hit this episode.
Mumei knows she can kill everybody on board the train without breaking a sweat so she doesn't really feel the need to be all that diplomatic nor has the personality for it.
And just when it looked like things might work out... I guess that's the kind of show.
Mumei is awesome. She ain't going to take any shit from anyone.
Diplomatic nothing, all she really needed to do was not be a smart ass, and say that they could just put blood in a cup.
Don't worry, she's more than likely going to get a Break the Haughty moment where she realizes she isn't the hottest shit.

First episode: So far this and jojo are the action series of the season. The animation is really good. The main characters aren't copied from from titan. Although Ikoma does seem like a combination of Eren and Angel (from before the fall). I don't expect the comparisons to stop any to soon though.
Some things are definitely going to have to be explained soon, though.
