So, while I liked this trailer better, I'm unfortunately still not expecting a whole lot from this movie. Of course I'll go see it, because a) it's Star Wars, you kinda have to, and b) it's got more major PoC characters than you can shake an electrostaff at. But...I can't say I expect this film to be that good. And it gives me no joy to say that, because I unashamedly adored The Force Awakens.
Now that said, this movie could very well end up benefiting from those low expectations. Being overhyped never helps anything, and sometimes going in with no expectations means you'll have a far better time than you thought you would. So fingers crossed.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."Why don't you expect this movie to be be good? I'm genuinely curious.
Also, I love this trailer. I'm hype for all the characters, but especially Chirrut and Baze (Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen's characters, especially)
The droid, K2-SO, is voiced by Alan Tudyk and I'm really looking forward to him as well.
Mm, there's not exactly anything concrete I can point to. Just that vague gut feel you get about certain films. I found the dialogue in the first trailer pretty corny, and they have yet to sell Jyn as to me as a protagonist. (And while I certainly appreciate the inclusive cast, it's still kinda annoying that the only apparent white person on the team is also inevitably the main character. Also no WoC.)
I'm certainly not trying to rain on anybody's parade here, though. I am really hoping to like it. And believe me, I'm as hyped for Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen's characters as anybody. 'Bout time we got to see a couple of Asian guys kicking ass in Star Wars. (Can include Riz Ahmed too, for that matter, although he seems to be more of a technician.)
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."Yes! Bodhi Rook (Riz's character) is already my favorite, haha.
Hard not to like the guy, with a name like "Rook."
I've been trying to avoid potential spoilers - do we know much about him at this point? Is he just a mechanic?
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."He's not a mechanic. He's a cargo pilot for the Empire who becomes disillusioned and defects to the Rebel Alliance. He also comes from Jedha, the same planet as Baze and Chirrut.
I liked this trailer better. It gave a better sense of the cast and the atmosphere of the places they visit, providing better that "gritty" feel others had claimed about the last trailer that I hadn't felt.
This was really good. Can't really agree with the "corny dialogue" complaints either, the dialogue seems fine to me (also again corny dialogue is hardly new to SW anyway).
Liked that a lot. Dialogue seems fine to me. And it's definitely going to look great if anything else...
So far, the subtitle seems to be spot-on. What I didn't like about TFA was that JJ was trying way too much to make a Star Wars film, with the end result feeling more like paint-by-numbers and checking off ticks on a list. This one seems to really be aiming for a Star Wars story - something that takes inspiration from the universe itself, rather than just the cinematography. Granted, it's a story that's already been told once, and I doubt any of the characters will rival the awesomeness of Kyle Katarn, but it's something that hasn't really been done in a live-action film before. It might just prove the gateway for future films that are simply set in this great universe, without having to retell or tie into the same stories and characters. All in all, I'm hopeful.
Who's directing this movie again?
Thought so.
Took another look at the trailer. Visual design does look a bit more distinctive than TFA's now that I'm examining it more closely, but I also noticed a couple other things, like the Star Destroyers looking a bit too big in the scene with the Death Star's laser dish and Jyn's Silly Walk towards the TIE Fighter. xP
but HOW?She's limping, dude. It's not a "silly walk".
To me, it looked less like a limp and more like an unshakable need to keep the same shoulder forwards at all times. She was walking too evenly at first to look like her ability to walk was genuinely impaired.
but HOW?To me, it looks like she's sort of gingerly stepping forward with one leg while the other one seems okay, so I dunno.
I'll admit it does look a lot more like she's limping in the shot from behind when the TIE Fighter shows up.
but HOW?Which is the same scene. Therefore, she's limping.
And I like the shot of the Star Destroyers compared to the Death Star's laser dish, especially that one that's moving forward while the dish is moving back and the dish's shadow is running up the Destroyer's length.
I really liked the shot of the Star Destroyer over the planet's surface.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I get that- the point is, it only looks like she could be limping for half the scene, and the other half has it look more like a really silly walk.
but HOW?It looks more like she's trying to keep her balance while on a platform that's unstable thanks to being fired upon, possibly combined with favouring one side due to injury. I don't really get the part where it's 'silly', but diff'rent strokes I guess.
Yeah, I don't get the 'silly walk' thing either.
I wonder if they're going to destroy Jedha like they did Despayre in the original EU, just keep increasing it in power until it outright destroys the planet.
