Sorry for misspelling Yaoi.

Now this was originally for my Boku no Pico Deconstruction/Hate Fic ,but the more I think about it, this might be a little bit better as an originally property and I'm honestly not sure whether I should continue the fan fic or not. But onto the main point: I want to make a Boys Love Visual novel that deconstructs the usual Yaoi tropes by pointing the player in the perspective of a LGBT teen in Japan, which is rather divisive about homosexuality especially older, more conservative people. Some of the concepts will be used in the fan fic, but now they're Expies plus the still original characthers:

  • The Nameable Protagnist (Default Name: Rei): A 2nd year high school student that is unsure of his sexuality after meeting several closet keys

  • Kaoru: A shy classmate with effeminate interests

  • Yuki: A genderfluid Otokonoko

  • Madoka: A transgender girl who is estranged from her family. In other words, a non-gay option ,but still LGBT.

  • Kensuke: A Bishounen who seems like a nice guy....but is actually a homophobe that resents Kaoru and the gang. And will only date you if you're Disguised in Drag

These are only the dateable characthers, I also plan to represent lesbians and have a non-dateable gay teacher. I wanted to continue the discussion I left on the Yaoi: What To Avoid thread. So what do you guys think? Do you have any suggestions for the game?

Nothing jumps out as bad, just be warned that it will require exhaustive research to get right, since not only trying to accurately represent a foreign culture that most amateur writers completely screw up, but trying to apply Reality Ensues to a very sensitive subject.

Also having a lot of minor or background characters representing Japanese LGBT subcultures you can't cover in the main plot would probably be a good thing.

You can always check the Playing With page for Deconstruction regarding more specific options, though... You could also toy around with Yaoi tropes alongside the Deconstructions, such as a Yaoi Fangirl getting her start by supporting/matchmaking a homosexual family member or friend (Justifed) or purely "being" one to serve as a support to a homosexual couple to Exploit their friendship.

I'll also point out, since the protagonist is unsure of his sexuality, you can also go into how Gender & Sexuality are not tied together. So a (Bad End) route could be Rei getting convinced he's transgender, but ultimately realizing (too late or not) that he's firmly male. I know it sounds a bit silly, but some people really do think stuff like that.

Plus, ya know, as a Deconstruction you can point out how awkward romance can get & all the other assumptions and ignored aspects that Yaoi would involve. Obviously one of Rei's biggest problems would be working out how his romantic relationship would go.

"The Omniverse is the collection of all possibilities, and all possibilities must eventually come to pass."
