Spoiler: Nightmare Fuel.Undertale

Well, here we go again.

Someone added this image◊, and again, it constitutes as massive spoilers. We had a thread for this before, but none of the images took off.

I'm suggesting either "But nobody came." because it appears after killing every monster and can be seen as early the Ruins; or Sans' introduction◊, since he appears as a shadowy figure and has definitely frightened a few LPers.

The problem with "but nobody came" is that is makes absolutely no sense to anybody who hasn't played the game. The Sans one works a little better, but it still doesn't look that scary. That said I can't really think of any parts of the game that would really be both scary-looking without context and not a spoiler of some sort, since most of the creepy stuff is in the endgame.

Wasn't it decided somewhere that spoilers don't matter on NF pages?

1.1 lacks the context to truly make it a spoiler, plus it looks creepy as fuck. I say use it.

I'm pretty sure Fighteer mentioned it in a discussion over in Ask The Tropers. I believe it came up specifically because the Undertale page was mostly hidden behind tags or something.

I suggested the "But nobody came" screen because this is a game in which you're supposed to encounter monsters and because of the Arc Words.

That's not scary. A legitimate Nightmare Face is.

I'd suggest the creepy TV faces again, but if they didn't do well last time, I don't see them doing well the second time around, either. (Expecting differently lines up with the informal definition of insanity, after all.)

What people find scary varies from person to person. While you may not think it's scary, many people found the "But nobody came" message really creepy. Heck, someone found the mushroom dance creepy.

Scary can be either subtle or obtuse. While many people are scared by the obtuse manner, some people feel the obtuse is "trying too hard to scare" while subtlety really hits the nail on the head, and vice versa.

Part of what makes "Nobody Came" scary is the sudden change in music that accompanied it. That context is lost here.

Hmm... some people are leaning to a Nightmare Face, so I either suggest this particular face◊ or no face at all◊.

Flowey's intro could work, given that it's at the very beginning of the game.

So, the File Erased pic (from just before the Omega Flowey fight) was winning the last crowner for a very short time until the voting shifted. I think this is a decent compromise for those who don't want blatant spoilers and those who think something like the "Nobody Came" or Flowey Nightmare Face isn't quite expressive enough without context.

The main problem is that it requires you to know the game. Otherwise it's just a heart, a box, a circle, and a flower that tells you to die.

Pretty much. I played that game but even then that scene was hardly scary anyway.

I personally don't find it scary either, but spoilers was an issue here and I wanted to avoid that.

You know what, I will just throw my vote at the 1.1.

You either don't have any context to know if it's a spoiler or have already played it so it wouldn't matter. It's creepy as hell both in and out of context unlike the "Nobody came" bit, so why not.

Having seen the image in 1.1, and having watched an LP of the game after that, I can say that the only thing that spoils is that it exists. There's absolutely no context to it that would spoil what it is before you actually see it.

Not knowing or caring about the game at all, I find this argument persuasive.

Okay, just to be clear - when you say "1.1", you don't actually mean the first suggestion, but rather the first image linked in the post - the image we just pulled for being a spoiler? Because frankly, I think that image should stay off the page.

I don't think the one pulled for being a spoiler is a spoiler, to be clear.

I mean, I'd suggested the freaky faces on the TV in the last thread, but even those got shot down for being a spoiler - and frankly, they spoil less than the silhouette of the final boss that's using them does.
