[up]That presumes that Pidge’s Dad is responsible for them and isn’t working on a resistance to fight them. The technology could have theoretically been introduced as far back as Season 1 by examining and reverse engineering the Blue Lion.

[up][up]All evil empires have ways of getting tech. TBH as long as it keeps the first episodes but being nothing but boring family stuff, since there’s a dozen ways for humanity to have gotten that tech.

Look man, I don't know about you, but considering that we haven't seen Earth at all, I don't think it's unreasonable to focus on some wordbuilding and bonding. I would personally find it pretty entertaining. We can afford to take a bit of a breather after so many things have come to a head.

Meanwhile, your proposal seems strain credulity, wanting an evil Earth that can go toe to toe with Voltron right out of the gate "just because". Hell, if Dr. Holt isn't involved, then they know practically nothing about Voltron.

There's no harm in unwinding for a bit.

[up]The fact that we know literally nothing is what makes it so exciting, (and so potentially upsetting) IMO. We could see anything. An Earth taken over by the Mirror Universe Alteans? Go Lion’s nuclear wasteland? The Zanscare Empire? All of those are possible. I just want a conflict to be present.

And that might have been a viable choice, if we had seen more of Earth in flashbacks or what-not, but I don't think that we've seen enough of it for something to have more emotional impact - it would be more randomly jarring than anything.

I'll agree that we should have a conflict, but we shouldn't act like it's stupid for people to want quieter, family bonding moments. We've barely seen Earth at all, and unless I'm remembering it wrong, we haven't seen Lance and Hunk's families at all. Plus, after seeing the human characters interact with alien culture, I'm very curious to see our alien friends interact with human culture. Plenty of popular, well-written shows understand the importance of downtime, and I don't see why now shouldn't be the time for that here.

If you want things on Earth to start going bad, I say introduce whatever element that would bring that one when we first get back, yes, but in a non-hostile way - they simply meet the Paladins, or even fight alongside them. Sure, there could be some suspicions on both sides, but those could be cleared up so that we could spend some getting to see the new earth status quo, and then slowly build the tension - perhaps Haggar decides to throw some new Robeasts at Earth, which only causes things to ramp up further - until we reach the breaking point, and whatever that entails.

I don't think it's too much to ask for the viewers to have a little patience.

@Beatman 1 I respectfully think your Evil Earth idea has no chance of happening and is a terrible idea.

It does not even make any sense.

[up]I didn’t even give an outline, just a concept. And the idea of next season being just family bonding and cooling down seems...unable to carry an entire season to say the least.

I never said I wanted that to be the plot, period, and I doubt anyone honestly expects that. But I'd like an episode or two of it, and if we can have an episode devoted to wacky Dn D hijinks (which I loved), I think we can have an episode of family bonding. And hell, you could develop the plot at the same time - there's nothing demanding that we drop everything to focus on the lighter stuff.

[up]I wasn’t saying completely ignore all the familial stuff, since that likely will be a plot point. The only issue with the plot is that as of now, there’s no villain since Lotor is (temporarily) defeated, and Haggar as far as we know isn’t directly leading the war effort, (in fact she seems incapable of it). Simply put, there’s no active antagonist right now.

Yeah, but we don’t need to get one right away. Let Haggar scheme for a bit while the heroes unwind. If there’s something up on Earth, it can be built up a bit.

Hey, maybe Sendak follows them home or something.

Kimberly Brooks let slip in a previous interview that the cast goes into sleep for a time-skip, think it'll be the trip back to Earth? Jeremy Shada already confirmed the second half of that.

No she specifically described it as collective and involving a sleep of some sort.

Why go to sleep? When they first used the Blue Lion to find the Castle, they just used a warp gate. Why not just do that?

What do you think they'll do with Romelle?

The lions themselves might have limited warp potential to the Castle, I don't know.

At the very least the Blue Lion must have some data on the path back to Earth, since that's the one that was on Earth and took them to Arus in the first place.

Hmm...well, if that's the case, then there definitely would be time for crazy stuff to happen on Earth. So yeah, I think I'd be okay with the stuff that Beatman's proposing in this scenario.

I still would like a "hanging out on Earth" Breather Episode, though.

I miss when the Lion Bond was a thing, to be honest. I forgot Green and Black actually acted on their own in S1 to protect their Paladins, and of course the thing in S2 with Red and Keith. Even with Shiro's soul residing in it, Black Lion and the rest felt pretty lifeless.

Also, Anyone else kinda bothered that they don't explore why that happened to Shiro? Is Black Lion always a danger to its pilot? What's stopping the same thing from happening to Keith?

#2571: Jun 18th 2018 at 12:52:57 AM

It could still be explored. Also, what's notable is the stuff that happened wasn't really the Black Lion's fault so much as a coincidence this stuff happens to the pilots. Unless you mean the spirit inside the Black Lion specifically compared to the corruption/bad stuff happening to the pilots. In which case, it's likely Shiro's truly heroic spirit that connected with the Black Lion. Considering how spiritual this show is, it doesn't seem that odd that a spirit can stay inside a lion. They're sentient creatures and all, and maybe it's a matter of how much they can bond spiritually. Maybe Zarkon never could bond nearly as much as Shiro and Keith did, which explains a lot. Take a look at the ending with everybody bonding with the lions for a burst of power. This might be related to why Shiro's spirit was trapped inside the Black Lion.

OmegaRadiance Since: Jun, 2011

Zarkon did have a strong bond though, to the point he could influence it through their connection. It's only after it has Shiro face Zarkon that the Lion severs its connection to Zarkon. Zarkon himself makes note it has powers beyond what current pilots know of too.

And the Lion preserving Shiro's soul in its mindscape is probable with what gas been shown of the Black Lions subconscious too.

The “oh look! Shiro is alive!” bit made me audibly groan. Look, if you want to kill him, kill him. All these fakeouts and gotchas and Unfortunate Implications do is breed resentment. It’s like they don’t care what happened to the character as long as A Shiro is present. I’m half surprised we haven’t seen Ryou yet. Even if you like the character, such a thing must be extremely frustrating.

Now as for Earth.

It’s specifically said that Allura has to power the warp engine for the Castle of Lions. No Castle, no engine. So my guess is they use a more conventional lightspeed approach that forces cryosleep for I dunno...2 years, 3? How long would it take for Earth to have a dictatorial government rise up and develop super robot technology? The episode is easy enough to picture at least. Everyone planning their activities for when they get home, only to face an entire human fleet when they arrive.

They were never going to kill Shiro off, he was supposed to leave and then return but Executive Meddling resulted in them creating this clone to take his place in the meanwhile. It's possible the clone/"Jiro" is meant to homage Ryou even if it's less directly than it could've been.
