Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Spotlight!
Now for people who've never seen the movie to start bitching about it!
Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.I've never even heard of that movie before now. It's like they wanted to vote for the most obscure one.
Spotlight was not that obscure. Still, sad that Max didn't get the victory.
Final Fantasy, Foreign Policy, and Bollywood. Helluva combo, that...Didn't Leo get a Lego Oscar during the 2015 ceremonies during the performance of Everything Is Awesome?

SNUUUUUUUUUUUUUB SNUUUUUUUUUUUUUB FUCKING SNUB I didn't even think The Revenant was that good (I liked it but more like a 3/4 for me) but fuck it got snubbed
My theory is that they didn't want Best Picture AND Best Director 2x in a row since you know Birdman (which I actually really liked tbh)

I cry foul. The Martian deserved to win something.
Ending with the song Fight the Power. Someone has a sense of humor.
Congrats to Spotlight. I was pulling for Fury Road but this was well deserved.
"Comedies" don't win Oscars.
Spotlight for Best Picture: in any other year it'd have been a shoo-in, but this year against so many other great films it felt like an underdog.
It's all the more satisfying that it got Best Picture, because by god, it deserved that win. No single actor performances, no showy effects, no mythologizing or melodrama, just a tightly-crafted, disciplined procedural with a powerful emotional impact.
Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three.Huh, a news event getting Best Picture. Kinda feels odd.
(V)(;,,;)(V)It was really an unusual year for the Oscars in general. Mad Max took home most of the technical awards: Editing, Production Design, Sound Design, Sound Mixing, Make-Up and Costumes. Revenant took home Cinematography, Actor and Director. Spotlight got Best Picture and Original Screenplay.
Of the comedy bits, Louie CK stole the show between praising the short documentary category in that it never goes to the millionaires and humorously saying Mad Max won before announcing the actual winner. Chris Rock sending out his daughters to collect for Girl Scout cookies was a good running gag too.
And they handled the "Oscars So White" controversy really well, simply by approaching it head on. It was the definitive topic of the night. I think the attacks at Will and Jada were a bit mean-spirited, but Chris Rock is certainly not known for playing it safe. The statement made by Kevin Hart was the best point, that the Oscars shouldn't be the end all of validating your efforts as an artist. That got me thinking that the Oscars may be the biggest but they are far from the only film awards ceremony, plenty of other films can and do receive focus and attention.
It's weird how Spotlight only had two wins including best picture. I can't remember the last time a film had two or less wins including best picture

I think that was just Chris showing he wasn't playing favorites. He has, after all, been talking about this shit for years, while some people accused the Smiths of just using this as a smokescreen for Will to whine about not getting a nod.
Spotlight is one of the few movies I've ever seen where I really couldn't tell you who deserved to win the best actor nods for it. I thought the cast was uniformly solid.

Spotlight was very much an ensemble piece; I'd have been very surprised if it got Best Actor. No standouts, but uniformly solid performances.
It's one of those films where it's very hard to single out why it's so good (and consequently it'll be very hard to convince my coworkers to go see it).
Also, any other year I'd be upset over how The Martian isn't getting any love but against this kind of competition? Especially Fury Road in technical Oscars? It's a fair cop, guv, this was a great year.
