Changed w/o discussion: Eagleland

The second image on this page was changed without discussion.

Here is the old image. While the replacement image is by no means bad, I can't say that I agree with the reasoning used by the editor who made the change. User Erylia Starheart made the change with the edit reason, "Using photos as a negative example can be considered offensive, especially when juxtaposed with an idealistic drawn poster of the good example." That strikes me as a little bit too Political Correctness Gone Mad for my taste.

Anyway, we might as well figure out which image to use (and maybe get a source on the new one if that's the one we want).

I agree that the image was switched for flimsy reasons, and I want to say that the new pic is being used somewhere else (I know I've seen it before, I just can't remember where)...I'm good to flip the old pic back pending something else that works better than either.

Gotta say, I like the new pic a lot more. I think the reasoning is poor, but the result is an improvement.

I'd be down for a revert if and only if it's in use elsewhere. Otherwise I say keep.

To be honest, I am not sure which pic I prefer. The old one has no problems, while the new one does illustrate the boorish part as well as the old one.

If the new one is already in use, then we should change it back.

As I've posted before, I always thought the picture wasn't really all that good for the negative version of the trope. Other than "durr-hurr all Muricans are gun freaks" stereotyping and that the image came from a book talking about American gun culture (the latter of which wasn't obvious unless you searched on the image), there was nothing that really said "This is the 'MURICA FUCK YEAH!' form of the trope".

In short, IMO the change is Right for the Wrong Reasons.

If it's already in use elsewhere, then change it, but if not I think it's an improvement on the trope image.

According to google search by image with restriction site:tvtropes.org, the family image is only used on this page.

It wasn't the family picture that was in question as being duplicated, but the one with the fatso on the electric cart with the machine gun installed on it.

Oh. Yeah, GiS says it is in use on America The Boorish, which is just a redirect to Eagleland.

And the only thing in ATB's history is the redirect, done in 2014.

I'm kind of curious as to what prompted that redirect.

Surprisingly, two wiki pages actually use it.

Looks like we are heading the direction of a crowner. Here's a better quality version of old. And a personal favorite for good measure.

I prefer the new image. The old image didn't show any sign of patriotism; the fact that the adults were dressed in black and that one of them had an AK-47 made me think "mafia" more than "boorishly patriotic", and the kid just feels completely out of place. The new image has an American flag, an MG, and a morbidly obese man, which are usually associated with America the boorish.

I prefer the one on the page at the moment. In the other images, they're too well dressed.

That suggestion is very nice... which is kind of the problem. It's not really showing a boorish Eagleland, just a happy family with guns. Which is quite non-indicative.
