The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society is a super great album. Love it from start to finish. I've been meaning to get some more of their albums from that general period.
Of course, my introduction to the Kinks was from a lovely cover version by Kate Rusby.
I didn't write any of that."Waterloo Sunset" was my introduction. I only have a compilation, but I'd like to get into Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire) sometime.
That is lovely. I have their first four albums and I want to get the rest.
It took me a while to warm up to that album, but it really is so... it's hard to describe. Kinda of heartbreaking and optimistic. Bittersweet for sure.
My favourite album would be Something Else by the Kinks. I love every second of that album.
"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."Gah, there's barely any Kinks love around here. Makes a poor troper sick to the heart. Ah, well, anybody have a fave Dave Davies song? Mine is "Love Me Till the Sun Shines".
"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."Yeah, there aren't many people here who know the 60's and 70's stuff well when it comes to music.
YAAY! Old bros together again! The Kinks really deserve a good biopic, and I heard they were making one, but it's by the people who made that awful Across the Universe film so not very promising. Makes me want to write one.
"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."I discovered them through their backward musical connection with Blur and good ol' You Tube. Being very orderly (more than now), I bought the very first two albums (best versions, with all the bonus tracks of course).
Now, knowing all the other albums from the same 2004 remastered series are far from becoming unavailable, acquiring the komplete Kinks kollection is my last priority. I'll buy 'em all later.
Favorite track: Close to the Wire.

My angry rant blog!Gah. The Davies bros have such great voices; they're very unique and pretty when they want to be. I'll be honest and say that I haven't delved into their post-71 stuff, but I dunno if missing much. Did like that song you put up, though.

"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."That is a track from the very last record they ever released. And if they don't do one last comeback (like The Beach Boys), it will remain such.
Also listen to Surviving, also from that album.
My angry rant blog!Wow, then they went out better than I expected. I definitely need to check that album out.

Any fans of the Kinks out there? Well, come inside the Kinks thread!
Talk about albums, awesomeness, feuding bros, sweet tabs that you know of, and that classic rock sound.
I think the Kinks are fantastic, and there output from the 60s can atone for the so-so stuff that came out after. I'll go further and be a heathen: I prefer them to the Beatles.
First time I heard them was on the radio, and it was "Sunny Afternoon"; I was just blown away at the lyrics and the rest is history.
Anyways, type away.
