Sooo....I made a thread.

Im REALLY loving a Amar A Vida(Traces Of Lies or ). The writing, acting and Mexican dubbing is AMAZING.

BTW Avoid the TV Azteca dub if you are from latin america. It sucks. Not that you need to because the much superior Rede Globo Mexican dub is about the only version that's available outside of Mexico.

Hi there! I hope you are still around for this discussion, for I'm a Brazilian and I love most of our telenovelas! grin

I really loved Amor á vida as well. It had some of the best plots and characters we have had in a while. Paloma and Bruno had a very complicated relationship, but their love story was pretty sweet nevertheless! And I don't know how it went with the actress who dubbed her over there, but over here Klara Castanho's perfomance as Paulinha was amazing, specially considering that was only her second major role and that her first major role was as the little child villainess Rafaela in Viver a vida. Anyway, How far have you watched it up until now?

I've watched up until that bitch Amaryllis admits she slept with Eron and tries to take the baby away.

God I hate her.

But I love Amar a Vida. Also wow that Vivir a Vida novela sounds really similar to Amar. Maybe that's why in Latin America its Rastros de Mentiras or "Trail of Lies" lol.

Oh yeah, Amaryllis was pretty hateful. Though I can't decide if hate her or Aline more.If I remember it correctly, a few chapters before that the latter tried to seduce Bruno, right? And what about the whole plot involving Tales and Nicole? That was so sad! [sad]

Well, maybe the titles sound pretty similar, but in terms of plots, they were pretty different. Vivir became pretty famous for containing a character who early on suffered a grave accident and became tetraplegic, for example.

Have watched many more Brazilian telenovelas aside from Amar? And if so, what were your favorites?

I know. I hate Leila for what she did to Nicole. God the villains in this Novela are pretty hateful, arent they?

I watch Brazilian Novelas all the time. They are pretty interesting AND they are always the highest rated shows for the SNT (The channel in Paraguay that airs them. They have an exclusive deal for all their novelas)

I have seen Cor do Pecado, Terra Nostra, Mujeres Apasionadas, Gabriela and lots more I cant remember at the moment.

I cant believe you guys made a Novela named "Robots and Dinosaurs". Or at least it was named that in Latin America.

I totally hate for that too! I mean, Tales wasn't completely blamelessly in his role in that horrible mess, but the way I see, a guy like him would never done something like that without a monster like Leila manipulating him. She was the one who was obssessed with Nicole's inherance, after all. It was mostly her fault that the poor girl died almost literally from a broken heart! sad

And I totally get that. Over here we have a channel called SBT that pretty much only runs remakes and dubs of novelas from Latin America, mainly from Mexico, I think. Just this week I was surfing the channels and I saw that Cómplice al resgate was on there again. I pretty much have lost count of how just many times they have re-run that one! [lol]

Of those you mentioned, I have seen Cor do Pecado and Gabriela, the former mainly because Globo has re-run that a few times in an afternoon slot they reserve for doing re-runs of old novelas.

I have never seen Terra Nostra or Mulheres Apaixonadas because they are relatively old ones that I haven't managed to catch a re-run of.

And I think that was the title that for whatever reason they gave to Morde e Assopra. I haven't seen that one either. But I think that was on the 7 P.M. time slot and the novelas that Globo runs on that one tend to be more wacky and comedic. The novelas that are more dramatic like Amar run on the 9 P.M. slot.

I remember yet another Novela, Salve Jorge (La Guerrera in Lat AM) that one was good too.

I remember that one. It wasn't one of the best we had, but it was good nevertheless. It carried a very important message about sex trafficking, at the very least.

I have watched many novelas over the years and here are some of my favorites:

Cristal - This one is probably more due to nostalgic value than anything else. It was the first regular novela I watched, way back in 2006. Before that, I had only watched novelas specifically made for kids, like Cumplices ao resgate and other Mexican novelas like it that SBT dubbed.

Cristal is a pretty weird case though, because it was basically a remake of both a Venezuelan novela by the same name and a Mexican novela called El privilegio de amar that was also based on the former.

The novela follows Cristina, a young woman who grew up in a orphanage and ends up becoming a model for the prestigious Maison Victoria. Thing is, Cristina is actually the daughter of Victoria Ascanio, the owner of the Maison, who had to abandon her because the father was the son of her employer, a very devout woman who desire that her son became a priest. To complicate things further, Cristina ends up getting involved with Victoria's son.

Paginas da vida - This one became famous for containing a social message about Down's syndrome.

Nanda, a young woman who was pregnant with twins, ends up dying in an accident. When her mother Marta sees that one of the twins is a girl who was born with Down's syndrome, she abandons her and claims that she died in childbirth. Fortunately, the little girl ends being adopted by the nurse who saw all of this happening.

Sete pecados - This one is notable for the main romance in it being between a hero and a villainess.

Dante is a virtous and respectable man, a loving husband and father. He is someone who normally would never have anything to do with Beatriz, a very spoiled and sinful heiress. But because she has fallen head over heels for him, on advice of the mysterious Barão, she decides to break him by making practice each and every one of the Seven Deadly Sins, so that he can fall in love with her.

Avenida Brasil - One of most memorable aspects of this novela was the pretty harrowing but masterful perfomance by young actress Mel Maia of Rita, a little girl who suffered grestly in her childhood because of the devious Carminha, who was trying to manipulate her widowed father. After her father ends up dying in a car accident as consequence of Carminha's scheming, the latter abandons her in a landfill, where she was subjected to child labor.

Years later, under the name of Nina, she comes back to take revenge on the woman who caused her untold suffering. In the process, she ends up falling in love with Carminha's adoptive son,who had been her childhood friend back when they both lived in the landfill.

How much do you wanna know about Felix's brother? The events of his death become pretty important for the development of the arcs of at least 3 characters later on, so I don't want to spoil too much.

Could you help me come up with some tropes for Bruno and Paloma? The Trails Of Lies still has very few tropes and most of them describe Felix, so it's currently very unbalanced.

I know! Pretty much everyone in my family was crazy about it too!grin[lol]

Honestly, Carminha from that one and Marta from Paginas da Vida rank right up there with Aline, Amarillys and Leila in my list of most hated villainesses. Yeah, there are both just that bad.sad

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

Amaryllis just becomes more and more despicable by the SECOND. Now she had an accident and she and Eron KICKED NIKO OUT OF HIS FUCKING HOUSE. His FUCKING HOUSE!!!

My sympathy for Eron just about Evaporated. Im so glad he and Niko broke up!

Yeah, Amaryllis is always reaching new lows, isn't she? And yeah, it is hard to like Eron at that point as well. But don't worry, without spoiling too much, I'll just said that she will get her due comeuppance. evil grin

Also, you never gave your answer about if wanna know anything about Felix's brother. And I'm stuck about what do next with the work page. Could you please help me come up with a few more tropes?

I was afraid you were going to say that... LOL!

But yeah! Sure. Aline also counts as a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing. And she is in a evil variant of May–December Romance.

But could you spoil for me how Amarillys is punished for all her shit? PM me so you dont spoil other people here. Also spoil me hard on Felix's brother!

Thank you. Yeah, I was also thinking that Aline counts as that first one, though she is a more spoileriffic example since it takes a while for her to show her true colors.

Edit: Do you remember what is the exact age difference between Cesar and Aline? The trope has a very strict standard for that: The older person in the relationship needs to be at least fifty-five, the younger person younger than forty, which I'm certain that Aline qualifies as, she was in her late twenties as far as I remember, and the age difference between the two needs to at least thirty.

Uh Oh. I dont know how old Aline and Cesar are, so we are out of luck then. I bet Cesar has over 55 years old though.

Isnt there info about the characters ages on the Rede Globo website?

No, we're out of luck there too. I tried that before but the character bios only offer general plot and personality information, not details like birthdays and such.

And I don't think there was something like a birthday or anything in-novela, at least I can't find anything searching for it. So, what do we do?

We should take pics of Aline and Cesar to ATT. Or somewhere.

Also I hate Cesar. He refuses to admit his cold attitude made Felix into the monster he is. Also I FUCKING HATE AMARYLLIS. FUCK THAT BITCH.

The problem is that you also can't go solely by the actors' ages. It needs to be in-universe. But we could give it a try, nevertheless.

Amaryllis grows more and more hateful and petty every episode...but Aline terrifies me. She's insanely cruel and ruthless. Even though I dont like Cesar he doesnt deserve losing his sight.

Still, Amaryllis should have died or gone to jail. Sure, the party callout was pretty cool, but GOD is she a bitch.

What did Amaryllis do this time? And yeah, she probably should have gotten more punishment, but unfortunately while her behavior is utterly immoral, most of isn't actually illegal, so there is not much to send her to prison for, sadly.

Oh, Aline. I think now you fully appreciate the hate I have expressed about her ever since the beginning of this conversation. I have no love lost for Cesar either, but yeah, he certainly didn't deserve such cruelty. Remind me again, what was the exact motive for her Misplaced Retribution ?

Also, you should watch out for the novela that is currently on Globo's 9PM slot. The original title is Regra do Jogo and it's amazing! I absolutely recommend that you catch it on when it gets dubbed there!

She believed that Cesar tampered with her Aunt's car which lead to her mother's death. Funny, she died without knowing the truth. Fitting for such a bitch.

Despite being such a bitch, I like the acting the dub actress for her showed.

Regra do Jogo you say? If its a 9PM Globo super production like Amar a Vida it will DEFINITELY air soon!

Oh yeah, I thought it was something like that, but I wasn't sure. But yeah, same thing over here. Vanessa Giácomo, who originally played her, did a pretty amazing job at the whole 'villain you love to hate' thing

I'm prettt sure that Regra do Jogo fits the 9PM super production description, but it has not finished airing over here yet, so it might take a while for it to air there.

I see. That's great!

Also Vanessa Giacomo, she has an italian name huh? I wonder if she's a descendant of the italians who came to work to Brazil after la Guerra de la Triple Alianza. I saw that on Terra Nostra, a Globo novela about said immigrants! Brazil is such a wonderful country! I would love to go there again someday!
