Impossible Creatures was a very under-rated RTS game where you genetically engineered animals for battle. Basically, Mix-and-Match Critters the RTS.

I haven't played it in years and found it out was just(?) released on Steam.

It's a really fun game, probably killed by a lack of marketing. Though it has a pretty bad problem with balance. You combine creatures out of a match and bring a "deck" of them into play, and there are five tiers of power that you have to unlock in-game. The problem is that the internal maths are wonky, it's almost impossible to make a decent tier one creature to Zerg Rush with and tier five suffers from a massive range of Power Creep—two tier fives creatures can be so wildly ranging in power that one may barely be better than tier four and the other should probably be tier six or seven. Flying units were also useless in a base siege due to the anti-air tower.

In all, a really fun game with a quirky campaign. Anyone else remember this or playing it now?

A few of my favorite creations included:

  • Faerie Dragons—crocodile/dragonfly
  • Savannah Sharks—cheetah/great white shark
  • Panzer Panthers—panther/snapping turtle

This game did caught my eye long ago but never had chance to get it and heard it was pretty average. But creating chimeras sound fun to me at least xD

I played this a lot as a kid. Loved it loads.

Anyone know if Insect Invasion comes with the Steam version?

Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.

Oh, I remember this game!

Fondly! Really, I used to play this so often on my aunt's PC when I went up to visit.

Played this game from release till my CD could no longer install on new computers. Still have the original game CD even. Easily one of my all time favorites. Very much hoping it's revival on steam will get it enough attention to warrant talk of a sequel, the concept deserves an expansion.

[up][up]Steam version comes with all official released content, plus a better mod support system.

I completely forgot about that expansion.

I read about the game but never got it. I'll have to check it out on Steam then.
