Does Not Illustrate: Coincidental Broadcast

I fail to see how the news report depicted is relevant to the discussion the characters are having. It looks more like the first part of a Chekhov's News example. Anyway, pulling for "not illustrating" would be my verdict, pending any upcoming suggestions.

I think it's supposed to be a parody of the Sharknado films, but I could be wrong. It's weak, that's for sure.

Actually, moving it to Chekhov's News isn't a bad idea.

I think it works better on Ignored Vital News Reports than the other two tropes. For Chekhov's News especially it's only showing one half of the trope (the set-up without the pay-off), so in this case it would need something like a follow-up panel where sharks pick off swimmers to work there.

For a possible replacement, the example list for Coincidental Broadcast has an example that hangs a lampshade on the trope in the first panel, though I'm not sure how good it is as an illustration.

^ Good idea about the move to Ignored Vital News Reports. Perhaps with a caption pointing to the towel which is necessary to understand the implications. I am not sold on the replacement though.

There isn't a second half; that's pretty much the entire comic, right there (although since Randall's allowed the site carte blanche use of his comics, the fact it's the entire comic is a non-issue). The wiki caption replaces the caption in the image itself - typically for xkcd page images I prefer using the Alt Text, but eh.

Looks like there's consensus to moving the current to Ignored Vital News Reports. I think I've found a good replacement for Coincidental Broadcast from this page◊ of The Dark Knight Returns, specifically panel 4.
