Honestly? Adrien being a massive dick would've been welcome to me, because then it would paint the good guys as not being bright, pristine, idealistic, and happy all the time.

I looked up some info on the wiki. Apparently, the reason Zag decided not to go with the hand-drawn route is because, other than hand-drawn animation being much more labor-intensive and archaic, the spots on Marionette's suit were flickering without any motion blur, which made a lot of people in test audiences antsy. Plus, with her suit being red, the hardest color to compress without making it look awful, it made for not a very pretty sight. Zag wanted the show to "look like nothing else on television at the time, more cinematic and epic". So Toei ablidged.

I'm all for the good guys being a little more realistic, but "Felix" only trying to get Ladybug to fall for him for his own selfish needs is a bit too much of a swing in that direction.

You know, if you compare Felix to Gabriel, the two are rather similar. Both are serious and reserved. Both seek to manipulate people for their own ends.

The French Promo for the Christmas Special has been released! The hype is real! And ANIMAN MIGHT BE ALYA'S DAD?!?

Makes sense that they would be showing more of her family life if she's about to get a bigger role as the next Volpina.

I thought Lila would be Volpina after a change of heart.

The next two Miraculous holders were confirmed at New York Comic Con. Chloe is the Bee and Alya is the Fox. I think Lila is more likely to be a secondary antagonist from now on.

In the French promo, while Alya is with her family, we clearly see Animan with two small girls, presumably Alya's sisters, sitting on a couch wearing a santa hat.

So, I just binged this show. It's a lot of fun! I notice the flaws and keep thinking that it's going to make me cool my enthusiasm, but the show is so fun that I end up not caring and simply wanting to watch more. So, I gather that there's exciting news about upcoming stuff? Sorry. Skimmed the thread to catch up, so I probably lost a lot of context and details.

Certainly excited for more content either way.

I hope the special will be dubbed. More Alya is always a good thing, especially what's in store for her in season 2.

@Sereg Funny you'd show up here, this is about as faithful a throwback to the oldschool Magical Girl Warriorseries you could ask for. I don't think Japan even does many straight idealistic stuff anymore in the genre outside of Pretty Cure and Crystal thanks to the grandfather clause.

I actually need to watch Pretty Cure sometime. It's one of a few shows were I watched and enjoyed the first episode, but got distracted with other stuff before continuing. But yes, this is a very traditional magical girl show. I like that it is set in Paris though and I like the partnership between Ladybug and CN. I've said for a while that more countries should get magical girls and I really like the Parisian setting they've given it. It was one of the bigger reasons I set my original magical girl story in my own country (another big one being Write What You Know of course). Also, Ladybug's costume is a little skintight and non-frilly compared to the average magical girl and more in line with a western superhero, but she pulls it off well and it suits an agility-based fighter like herself.

There's definitely a healthy dose of good old-fashioned American comic books in here, they have what's basically a reverse of the Spider-Man/Black Cat dynamic with similar powers.

It'd be even more obvious if Felix made it through the concept phase, but ya know.

I still really like the revelation that Hawkmoth's Miraculous is meant to be a heroic power that gives superhuman abilities to humans without a Miraculous. Also that he uses empathy to get people to turn, which on paper are very traditionally good powers.

Oh yeah. That's true. And yes, I liked that reveal too. Though as was said earlier, the implied minionising is more of a traditionally evil power. But yes, it's a power that has insane levels of utility as long as you're willing to keep yourself a safe distance away and it could do an enormous amount of good. Imagine an army of heroes with the powers of every one of Hawkmoth's creations and how much good they could do. And the more flexibility HM has in choosing powers for his creations, the more rapidly that achieves ridiculous levels. Though, if it's based on empathy, and originally meant for good, and based on HM's interactions with his creations, maybe the powers are always required to fulfill an emotional need in the creation.

Though, I must say that although empathy is traditionally a good power, that's largely when it is in it's lower power forms, Hawkmoth is an example of how evil and scary it becomes with high levels. Cherish from Worm being a more visceral example. Even my own creation, as seen in my current avatar, the protagonist of my PMMM quest, while having empathy based powers, is generally considered to be an example of Bad Powers, Good People by most participants in the quest due to how powerful they are, to the point that many consider her power to be mind control, especially as her influence tends to be bigger than they expect when they think they are doing something relatively innocuous. It's a general pattern I think. Social powers tend to be seen as good aligned when weak, yet terrifying, evil aligned mind control when strong.

Also, I wanted to say: Lucky Charm works by Tikki creating the item that she thinks Marionette needs. As Tikki cannot directly communicate with Marionette while she's Ladybug beyond choice of item, Marionette has to work out Tikki's plan from the choice of item.

Marinette: Phone Thief and #LetAdrienEat2k16 are offended by that statement.

I love Nino, but I think the potato eating meme belongs to Sasha Braus. She was there first.

Phone The if Marinette and #Let Adrien Eat are observations, really. Jokes based on what's presented, and have a sort of logic behind it, we know why these things happened (Marinette's attempts to hide her identity, Adrien being on a modeling diet).

But a shot in the Christmas Special trailer, just has Nino sitting out in the snow with no jacket eating a forkful of potato. There is no context given for any of it, and really how exactly do you explain something like that? It was basically a trailer scene equivalent of shitpost, which the fandom quickly latched on to.

They came about differently sure, but that doesn't make the other two jokes any less valid as memes than this potato thing. They're all memes and those two came first, so this new one shouldn't count as the first official one. Especially since there are plenty other ones not mentioned as well.

What I am curious about is Otis. Given his appearance in the promo for the Christmas Special, we have to wonder what his relationship is with her family.

In particular I really like this one.
