I've always maintained that 4Kids is the sole reason why anime dubbing gets the bad rep it does.
On my wave, passing oooooooon4Kids and the English dub of Robotech.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I wasn't really asking why people hate the dub - people always will - I meant that, how is it that the transition from it's original language (French, I guess?) into English still manages to follow the lip sync?
Because the show was animated with the English dub in mind despite it originally being intended to air only in France and maybe Japan back when the show was first announced in 2012.
All the dubs seem to be fine.
Shoo her in, Effie darling, shoo her in.Um, I get what you;re saying but Robotech is entirely the English dub of 3 series mashed up. It is not independent of that dub and if that is taken away, it wouldn't exist.
Despite that there is apparently some issues with lip-synching

...no, the lip-syncing is pretty bad. Probably worse than dubs of traditional anime because of how much more glaring it is.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.Really? I mean the characters move so damn much that I barely can tell if their lips match or not.
"We be we baby!"I honestly don't notice it much, unless the characters are yelling at someone else.
You can get a good look at their lips in multiple shots, and the movements are just way off most of the time.
I think part of what makes it so bad is that they seemed to have tried to match the lip movements to the English dub, but did a poor job of it.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.I haven't noticed the lips not matching up, but that's just me.
Also, can we please make sure that this thread dosent get derailed by the classic "Dub vs Subs" debate? I've seen too many good threads get destroyed by it.
Shoo her in, Effie darling, shoo her in.Such is the power of fans of languages.
Anyhow, Should Marinette give Chloe a "Suck speech" in the vain of Quagmire's to Brian? I know it's not going to happen, but it should be something.
"We be we baby!"I'm not sure I care either way. If she does go through a Break the Haughty moment, I'd rather it happen though circumstances and events rather than words.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference. Most certainly. Chloe deserves every bad thing that happens to her.
Also, does anyone else think that Cat Noir is going to make a Face–Heel Turn? I don't mean a temporary/mind control one like in Evil Cupid, I mean like he works with Hawk Moth and everything.
I mean, if Hawk Moth is his father, than he has a motive. (Maybe if I do bad things, than my dad will finally love me.) Plus, he has the power of bad luck, which almost always seems to be a power wielded by villains. And let's not forget the fact that his original incarnation was meant to be an manipulative asshole whom only flirted with Lady Bug for his own ends. And Word of God has stated that version (known as Felix) may make an a appearance.

Shoo her in, Effie darling, shoo her in.... I get the feeling from this episode that Sabrina either gets some... enjoyment out of being someone else's slave or is actually a bit of a manipulative bitch herself. Mainly from that one scene where she shows up with Marinette's homework done unasked, insists she accept it and then blows up at Marinette for not being able to work on the project together, calling her just like Chloe. And then she foes right back to Chloe in the end.
Also, lol at Adrian feeding his own ego at the end by asking Marinette if she thought Chat Noir was cool. :P
Makes it seem like CN likes any girl he comes across in a way, or is a flirty type.
"We be we baby!"I still want an episode with either protagonist "evilized", mainly for the Wham potential
As far as Chloe goes...I also want to see her as the Villain of the Week (or several). As an Evil Counterpart to Ladybug and an undercover agent of Hawkmoth. After all, no one would expect the Fangirl to be the enemy of whoever she idolized, right?
I half got the feeling Adrian suspected or knew Ladybug is Marinette but had decided to not say anything... but unless there were more out-of-order episodes there's no point where he could have figured it out.
Or turn her into a yandere/stalker with a crush type. "Go kidnap Ladybug for me. You can do whatever you want with her afterwards, just get me her earrings."
She will apparently turn into Dark Ladybug at some point.
Anyway, episode: Wow, kid got akumatized like 3 minutes into episode. How long is Hawk Moth standing in that room anyway? Get a chair, man, maybe a cup of tea or something.
Are we sure Chloe isn't already akumatized, because HM has to at some point leave his room and shake her hand for all hard work she does for him. Though as I said, its nice that everybody hates her, even villains. Kinda cathartic really.
Wow, The Evillustrator was hot. No homo. But seriously, the cutest villain, episode even starts with him taking down other best looking baddies. Cause in Ladybug Evil Is Sexy especially except Mr Pigeon and Horrificator. The nicest villain too, despite the name. Powers were standard but had great visuals and he can draw music, how awesome is that?? If I had to criticize, I would say his voice was a bit miscast.
I was rather disappointed by sub-plot. It felt too status quoey. Come on Mari, you had eraser made hole in window and Adrien backing you about Cat Noir's adventure, you could try to explain yourself.
Now that we got a bit more focus on them, I noticed that Chloe has the Valley Girl-est, Alpha Bitch-est voice ever, and Sabrina sound like a My Little Pony character.

Actually a lot of what 4Kids has done is still being done today. The somewhat awkward delivery, rap intro, and localizations like altering Japan-centric jokes are all being done in Yokai Watch even though 4kids has no involvement.
Using CN as the abbr. for Cat Noir is confusing me because it can also be used for Cartoon Network.

This mime is definitely in the top 5 most threatening villains.
Like. He's Green Lantern. Except you can't see what he's making until it's too late.
x2
From what I hear the Yokai Watch dub is pretty faithful to the original though. Hell they even translated the ED theme without cutting any of it out.
Just finished watching the new episode (well, new if you're in North America) and I rather enjoyed it. The Evillustrator has an interesting design and power, and I hope to see more of him.
Also, anyone else find it weird that Cat Noir was flirting with Marionette, despite the fact that while he's not doing his superhero stuff he seems uninterested with a romantic relationship, at least with her anyway?

Shoo her in, Effie darling, shoo her in.Chat Noir's personality is like 20% flirting and 90% puns. Him not doing one or the other every time he opens his mouth would indicate something wrong, I suppose.

If you know Sub elitism, then you know why they hate the dub. plus, it's way more whiney sounding.
"We be we baby!"
