Nails and Phillip looked over at Rex as they were still reporting to Wells on the radio. "We weren't planning on competing, but we weren't planning on just giving anyone our points either" Nails responded.
"Especially not to you" Phillip muttered under his breath.
The two Fanboys had followed Ben and Sora, but stood a little away to give them room and just observed.
"Hey, I think that's she's from Fallout New Vegas" the first Fanboy commented quietly, pointing to Lily, then at the Grinch and added, "and of course there's the Grinch."
"Man, now I really wish we had a camera" the second Fanboy lamented quietly.
"Now it looks like everything but the batting competition has wrapped up for now" Adam's voice noted over the loudspeakers.
"And they're both at two strikes Adam! I think the kid has the advantage over that... I don't know what that is; but it's anyone's game right now! The tension is real!" Jeff's voice announced in an excited tone. The crowd had quieted down somewhat as they waited with anticipation...
Meanwhile, Thomas looked like he wasn't sure what Caro was planning, then glanced over and stepped back slightly as Sans approached and talked to Caro.
"Sir, language" Miss Tairee said to Lo Wang in her frustrated tone. "A quad barrel shotgun is pushing what I'm allowed, but I will take a look. As for the flamethrower, if you're not taking a backpack container it will be rather limited in ammo" she told him, typing on her computer.
As she typed, she answered Hoji's question without looking, "no. You would be transformed entirely into that mortal form; that's the trade off." After a minute or so, she finished typing, and two items appeared with a blur. The first was some kind of homemade, rudimentary flamethrower,
◊ while the second was a boxy looking shotgun with some kind of rotary mechanism with four barrels on the front.
"This is what I can provide for you" the librarian stated rather plainly.

Aw, they liked the phones. Great, now their lives would be just a bit easier. It was kinda funny seeing how eager the Grinch was to mess around with it, actually. Not something you see every day, except here apparently. Ara was...similarly grateful. Beaming, even.
I merely nodded in reply, at a loss for words. A pretty quiet response considering I had an inopportune urge to start screaming. No, god damnit, feelings, stop that, what part of "it was a mistake and she knows what she did wrong and she apologized" do you not understand Jesus.
Amazingly, Ben happened to show up in person this very moment, coming up to Eve to reassure her that it was okay and sorry for freaking out earlier (as if she knew he'd done such a thing?), accompanied by...was that Sora? (oh thank god another distraction)...echoing his sentiments. Was it just me or did his hair look even more anime in person? I resisted the urge to poke one of the spiky tips as he decided he wanted to loiter right next to me for this. Huh. "Heya."
Cole suddenly seemed to have a headache, muttering something about not listening enough. Huh? What was he listening for...? I realized that he had his amulet on the stuffed bunny he was carrying instead of on his person directly, and subsequently that most of this group was probably a mess. Hoo boy.
Except maybe the blue person. I had no idea what their deal was except that they called themself "grandma" and apparently wanted to make Eve a sweater.
"Um, you know, if you want something to sew with you can just ask the librarian!" I called to her(?) as she marched off into the sea of ramps and courts. God, what time is it? I really needed to go soon if I wanted to retake that lead. Hey, wait, Ben was here. Ben, who had a big, bold 8 right above his head. Oh, but no, right now he was trying to help Eve. But lives were at stake. Aaaaaaaagh fuck it I could challenge him over the radio if I was that desperate. Least I hoped.
"Now, uh, guys, I guess this is a bad time to skedaddle but I really need to go. That competition is not going to wait much longer, and. Things. Universes, to save. I'll be on the City Knights channel if y'all need me, I guess, since that's apparently what you use, and uh, yeah. Ara, Grinch, if you want to do what I just said tap the radio icon on that phone and then follow the instructions. Sorry. I want to stick around for your sakes but I'm pressed for time here so, bye now."
I zipped off, nearly bumping into the two guys that showed up just in time to call out what verse this "Grandma" was from ("Excuse me.") as I suddenly regained the ability to glide, and set the radio app to channel 10 again before glancing around for that stadium the librarian had indicated earlier.

"Wait, really? We can just, like, take stuff?" Abel asked. "What kind of place are you running here?" Either way, he was free now. Well, sort of. This new guy still wanted an answer, and there wasn't really one to give. At least, not a good one. He looked back at Rixis as he flew back to him, sitting comfortably in his coat and nibbling his ear affectionately. "Listen, this is just one of the ways I got food back home. It was either that or I go dumpster diving, and everything I found in the trash was...how do I put it...trash," he explained. "I usually save the lasers as a last resort. Now if you'll excuse me..." He tried to step past Rex and back to where he was going. "But if what you said about not needing to pay or anything is true, I won't do that again, okay?"
(holds pool noodle threateningly) Do you want to know what we do to artists?

Eve didn't seem to want to talk too much. But she did seem grateful, so he nodded. Then he looked over at Sora, who had seemed to take a back-seat. He gestured over to him, making sure to turn back on the walkie talkie and setting it to channel 10 so that the others could hear him. "I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of the City Knights," Ben told her (and the other Knights), smiling over at him. "Meet Sora," he introduced, handing the keyblade wielder the walkie talkie. "Tell 'em who you are and what you do. Hold down the button if you wanna speak," Ben told Sora, smiling at him.
I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

He clicked down the button. "Hello everyone. Like Ben said, I'm Sora, wielder of the Keyblade, a mythical weapon that is used in my world to fight against the Darkness and the Heartless that are born from people's stolen hearts. I have saved many worlds from being eaten whole and you can be sure that I will do that for this City."
"I'm glad that I can join the team and help you all, just like how you help all the people here in this City. And for that I thank each and every one of you. It takes a strong heart to do that and a open heart at that to be able to dream of what your doing in the Knights. So continue the good work. You might not know it but what your doing is more than just protecting the good people of this city. You're building hope."
Sora lets go of the button but then thinks. He needs to end it light hearted. So, he holds the button again and says, "And just to give some advice to all of you from two close friends from my world: this ship runs on happy faces! So try to stay happy everyone!". He lets go again and hands the walkie talkie back to Ben.

I just want to help!
Cole looked back and forth between the group of people, at the Grinch, at Ben and the guy who seemed to be named Sora, back at Eve, at Lewis, at...
Oh. That was the lady from the grocery store.
But their pains were all swirling together so much. He'd been separated from his powers for quite a while, and he wasn't sorting them out as easily as it had come to him before he knew what it was like not to have to.
Lily was leaving to go do...something, and Lewis was hurrying off as well, and Ben seemed to have made friends with this new person, which was good...who were those people over there that seemed to be excited about everything? Where was he supposed to start?
Rather than say or do anything, it seemed Cole decided his best course of action was to just bring both hands up and over his face, as though just standing like that was enough to hide him from view, bunny still clutched in the crook of his arm as he did, and he just stayed still and perfectly silent, either as though this would keep him hidden, or to just try and get his thoughts in order.

Ben looked over at Sora and nodded. "Thanks," he stated, then raised his eyebrow as Lewis seemed to be in a big hurry to go... somewhere. Probably to get some more challenges done by the time that the day ended. He should probably get on that but he was so tired. He looked back at Eve. "You're... you're welcome. And yeah... Sora's right. I do... y'know, I kinda... well not kinda but... uh... well, I mean, I really... y'see..." He stopped talking, knowing he was blabbering on. He stood there for a moment... then he simply walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her into a hug.

Eve watched Ben's reaction with a grave look in her eyes. The blabbering was kind of cute. She was kind of scared though. She wasn't entirely sure of what.
And then he hugged her.
She stiffened, not expecting the contact. Then she leant into it.
"I'm sorry. But there wasn't an alternative except to leave him there. And that I couldn't do."

Ben kept hugging her, smiling a little and feeling better that she wasn't immediately pulling away or getting upset at him. It felt nice. "I... I understand, Eve. And I forgive you. You... you did the right thing. And that's what the City Knights do. We do the right thing." He was no longer really paying attention to Sora, or the Fanboys, or Cole. Just holding Eve gently.

"Yes, hello" the first Fanboy responded to the Grinch with a little wave of his hand. "You seem nice, so I assume you're post-Christmas stealing?" he then asked.
"Yeah, there's no money here. Just what people brought with them, and nobody cares" Anna-Rose confirmed to Abel. "You must be new here if you don't understand that yet" she added with a shrug.
"Most of the buildings are just empty and unclaimed; you can just walk in and take stuff as long as nobody's there" Anna-Maria added in. "If you want food, there's this big ass supermarket that I think is always somewhere in the city" she added.
"So, Rexy- can I call you Rexy? Are you gonna go running back to the competition now?" Anna-Rose asked Rex, noting how he was now in third place on the score screens.
"You've saved worlds from being eaten whole? That sounds pretty cool" Louie's voice said; from his tone it was clear he seemed a little doubtful about Sora's boastful claims, but not doubtful enough to be rude in his tone about it. "And don't worry about me! As long as I have my team, nothing can really get me down!" his voice continued.
Thomas didn't respond as he was still preoccupied.

Stadium - Fated Battle
So it seemed that Fate had done and won just this type of contest earlier ... That did not exactly bode well ... Still, it was pretty much her only chance to do this, so that was going to have to do.
She pondered a bit over the clarification about Arf's points. That sounded a bit like what Silanea had been trying to do, which did make her more than abit uncomfortable. On the other hand, it was her opponent offering it to her, rather than her forcing them into it ... And if she only defeated Fate here and left Arf unchecked, she would be still have a high rank and freedom to go after Ben ... She guessed that she had no other choice here either ...
"I see ... That seems fine enough then ..." she replied. Then as the other mage laid down the terms regarding Fried, she too turned her gaze towards the little dragon, before turning back to Fate and nodding, then adding, "I expected no different ... Really, the rules state that third party inteference is not allowed, so even if you didn't set that out explicitily, I couldn't have do it even if I had wanted to ... So yes, those terms are very much acceptable ..." as if to prove it, she then had Fried move behind her, while still being conscious of not having too close to Thomas.
Meanwhile, the radio drama kept on for a bit. She considered chiming in to say that she could also possibly help with Eve, but there had been silence from Ben ever since he had agreed to help, so it was likely that he had already got to her. If that was the case, she was not sure if it would really help to have her hearing the matter discussed on the channel. Maybe it would be best to leave it to him ..
It was then that a certain skeketon arrived and spoke to her, to which she quickly turned around and said, "Sans! It's so good to see you ... And don't worry about it ..." then as he commented of her state, she quickly wiped a few more tears off, before continuing, "Welll, yeah ... This got a little tougher than I had expected ... But I made throught it ... Sort of ... I tried to convince them, but ... Seems like the only way through this is to defeat her and there is no going back now ... I just gotta do it ..."
Then, the channel came alive once again, this time with Ben introducing a new member of the team, Sora. Apparently he was the hero of many worlds and he seemed to a really nice guy as well, so he indeed seemed a good fit and addition to the team.
Guessing that she should finally say something this time before she went about with her challenge, she pressed the button to transmit and spoke, " Well said, Sora ... Welcome to the team ... We will be glad to have you with us indeed ... I'm Caro ... Now listen, everyone ... I'm about to enter a challenge that it is imperative that I suceed on ... So, in order to concentrate on it ... I'll be getting off the grid for a bit ... Thomas and Louie are still nearby, so they should be able to me posted on anything that happens meanwhile ..Although this probably shouldn't take too long ... In anycase, over and truly out for now!" after releasing the button, she should then press another to mute the headset.
With all that settled, she would then finally turned back to Fate and say, "Sorry about that ... Anyway, let's settle this, right here, right now ..." while quickly switched Kerykeion over to second mode in preparation, the telltale mana wings spreading on either side of her right glove. While at it, she thought, "Fate ... I really didn't want it go this way ... Whatever goes down here and at the end of all this ... Please forgive me ... I hope to still be able to help and patch things with this you ... I'll do my best at it ... But whatever happens, I guess I'll always have those wonderfully warm memories of you ..."
As soon as she was done proclaiming that, the area around them shifted. Some distance away, an array of five targets for in front of each of them. Then as soon as they got ready and in position, a holographic screen would appear above the space right between the two arrays. It would start a countdown, beginning with 3, then after making it down to 1, "GO!" would then flash on it, to signal the start of the contest.

Caro explained what happened, looks like she was going to face Fate in a competition after all. Considering she was crying, this whole situation must have really torn her in the inside, but thankfully she seemed to have gotten through it and her resolve seemed as strong as it could be.
Sans stepped back to let the two of them have their competition. "you can do it, sis! i'm rootin' for ya!" He said to her, raising his voice a little
Stadium ~ SHOWTIME
Fate nodded in response to Caro. Before she could say much else, a short, living skeleton in a casual outfit appeared and promptly introduced himself as Sans.
"We've heard a little about you as well, Sans," Fate replied simply, "But I'm afraid now's not the time for extended introductions. Caro and I have business to take care of."
As she waited for the other mage to settle her business over what was presumably a communication device, Arf turned to her and sighed. "If you're really willing to bet it all on this...maybe you should just take my points now."
Fate gave her a concerned look. "But out of the two of us, I believe you're the one better suited to this whole affair. You even have more points than I do."
"And?" Arf replied, "Truth be told, I was going to let you take my points if you needed them. As ultimately, I'm doing all this for you. And frankly, I'd rather give you my points directly than intentionally lose to someone I know I could beat." At that, she held out her hand. "So, how about a quick test of your reflexes? If you can hit my hand, you win."
Fate was silent for a few moments. Then, with a nod, she shot out her own arm and quickly tapped Arf's hand. It was over by the time Caro finished her discussion, and she'd see that Fate now had nine points compared to Arf's zero.
"Now go get her," Arf said with a smile.
At that, Fate gave her a small smile, before turning to Caro with a determined nod. Then, as the stage appeared, she turned and readied Bardiche, focusing on nothing except the task at hand, just as she had against the snake woman.
"Photon Lancer," Bardiche intoned upon the word go. At that, five yellow bolts formed around Fate and flew towards their targets, destroying them all in a single go.
As soon as they were all down, Fate relaxed before turning to Caro, waiting to see which of them was faster on the draw.

At least the whole thing with Abel and Rixis was under control now.
"Just... if you see a snake woman or a giant brute in a blue armor, don't piss them off"
With that out of the way, Anna-Rose reminded Rex about the competition but her use of a nickname kinda make him miss that.
"Uh, sure?" Man, he really hadn't thought things through with the girls but nevermind that "Right! The competition. I don't know what Arf is going to wish for but I doubt it's what I have in mind"
Rex built his bike and prompted the girls to take a seat. There wasn't much time left before he couldn't do anything to help Sans.
"Come on, we need to get to the library"
After a bit of less-than-perfect driving that almost involved running over a bunch of blue alien women in yellow body armor "Sorry, sorry! I'm in a bit of a time crunch" the trio finally reached the library. Rex quickly made his way inside.
"Lewis? Are you still here?"

Abel & Rixis - Streets - Say Wha—VROOOOOOOOOOM
"Wait, what was tha—" Before he could finish his sentence, Abel was immediately pelted with pebbles and dust as the guy literally turned into a motorcycle and drove away. "We didn't even get his name," Abel whispered into his collar. "A snake lady and a brute in blue armor..." he shrugged this off and looked around, spotting the burger and fries from earlier being swarmed by a wave of ants.
He lost his appetite.
He turned away in disgust and looked at the road instead. What should he do now?

Stadium -That was quick
As the stage for the contest appeared, Caro raised her right hand, in a fst, in front. As the count went down, she did her best to concentrate on what she had to do here. As soon as they were signaled to go for it, she gave her chosen spell, Wing Shooter, the necessary quick charge before calling out a simple command, "Shoot!"
Five bolts of pink energy were then launched, each streaking in a straight line towards a target. They all rapidly made it at the same time, piercing right throught and doing enough damage to register, but not completely wrecking them, as opposed to Fate's, of which there seemed to be nothing left. However, the inherent speed of Caro's spell seemed to have given her a slight edge in actually hitting them all first. As it became clear, helped by a display on the holographich screen above, showing the split second difference, the stage then disappeared, signaling her victory.
Giving off a sigh of relief, but seeing as it still was over, although by the terms settled on, the next shouldn't be hard, she then turned towards her opponent and uttered, "Well, I guess that's settled then ..." then flickered gaze towards Arf, she added, "So ... What's next? ... I guess I should at least let you choose what this nominal challenge should be ..."

The whole thing was over just as quickly as it started. Sans quickly put on one of the glasses and saw a big 10 over Caro's head while the other two had 0. He then moved over to Caro and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"knew you could do it sis. you're the first one to get to the double digits, congrats!" he said, sounding genuinely happy for her and with an expression that matched it, "and i think while you were talking on the radio that arf lady gave her points to her because both of them have 0 points."

Dark Sun, what choices have I...?
Listening in on channel 10, Ben announced that Sora was now a City Knight as well. Sora then broke into a short speech to tell them who he was and rouse them, and was met with much fanfare. Caro then announced she was entering a challenge, and mentioned someone named...Louie?note
"So do I finally have a name for you, unfamiliar voice? Sup."
In due time, I found the stadium the librarian had indicated, and went in, trying to spot a certain wolf lady occupying second place, but instead arriving to see Caro jump from one point to 10 as a row of pierced projectiles vanished into nothing.
I checked the board to confirm what just happened, it occurring to me that I may have wasted my time coming here.
An entity on a nearby riser that looked suspiciously like a properly-clothed version of one of those reverse mermaid gag images happened to be pointing a camera in the direction of the action. I shrugged at them, imagining it'd have roughly the same comedic effect as someone doing the same to the fourth wall in a tv show or play.
I floated over to the young magical girl, clapping. "Well, nice work. Guess that wish is coming along nicely, huh?"

I just want to help!
Cole gradually peeked out from between his fingers, as things seemed to be slowly coming to a more manageable level in his head. The hurts weren't quite as intense and spinning as before, and he thought he was getting a grip on things.
In front of him, Ben and Eve were hugging, and it seemed as though that were helping? Ben had a lot around him that Cole had wanted to ask about, but what was happening right now seemed to be something that required more thoughts.
"He likes hugging you," Cole finally said, looking to Eve. "And he's glad you seem to like to hug him, too. I didn't know you two liked each other."
Akuma Shogun
When I finally found a laundry machine, I noticed a teenager with an eyepatch note walkin' past the laundromat and havin' a friendly chat with his imaginary friend. What was he up to, I wondered? Was he plannin' on gettin' more points today?
While listenin' to him talk to his imaginary friend outside, I decided to start up the machine and placed my suit inside with some cleanin' powder. Fortunately, I remembered to put the right settings for my clothes.

Eve continued to hug Ben, before Cole came over and spoke about Ben and her liking each other. Does that mean they were friends? Her and Ben, she meant, not her and Cole.

Stadium
The pitches kept coming. The speed was starting to get overwhelming. Lucas might have been able to keep himself focused with PSI, but focus sometimes isn't enough. Any time spent looking away, even for a moment, would mean a near certain miss. He was so focused that he didn't notice Sylvia missing again. He hit the next two pitches after the one Sylvia missed, but he put a bit too much force into his last swing and took a few precious extra instants to readjust for the next.
He swung a moment too soon. Whoever missed next would lose the game. Focus intensified.
