Welp, I caved in. Here's a silly sign up

  • Story: Crash Bandicoot (no Titans or Mo M)
  • Name: Crash Bandicoot
  • Age, Gender, and Species: Unknown (he's an adult though), Male, Mutant Bandicoot
  • Appearence: The Main Marsupial Himself
  • Personality: Crash is simple, carefree, laid back fellow. If it were up to him, he'd be spending his life lounging on the beach, eating Wumpa Fruit all day, while enjoying the occasional race. But when life throws an adventure his way, he's never one to back down from a challenge, becoming a rather literal tornado, ready to take on anything. Despite Crash's simpleness, he's surprisingly cunning and quick on his feet, being able to outpace and beat foes that are bigger, stronger, or smarter than he is. Crash has a tendency to be incredibly impulsive at times, and usually doesn't bother thinking things through before acting. He's not much for talking, preferring instead to let his actions speak for themselves.
  • Background: Crash was once an ordinary bandicoot, living his life peacefully on a series of remote islands somewhere between Austrailia and New Zealand. But when the dastardly Dr. Cortex took over the islands and began abducting the local wildlife for his nefarious schemes, Crash's simple life was upended. Cortex planned on using a machine called the Evolv-o-Ray to mutate animals into dangerous super mutants to create an army, called the Cortex Commandos, who would be capable of taking over the world. Crash was to be his general, but when Cortex's brainwashing machine, the Cortex Vortex, malfunctioned with Crash in it, Crash was able to make his escape from Cortex's clutches. And so began a series of adventures that saw this mutated marsupial save the world time and time again, spanning Crash's home islands, time and space, and even alternate realities.
  • Abilities:
    • Crash's mutation gave him a number of super human abilities.
      • Spin Attack-Crash's signature attack. Crash spins himself around, basically turning himself into a living tornado, and is capable of causing great destruction. He can even use this move in midair to slow his decent. Somehow, he never gets dizzy.
      • Enhanced Agility- Crash is capable of performing some incredible physical feats, such as jumping more than his own body height, and even performing a double jump.
      • Enhanced Strength-Crash may not look it, but he's actually pretty strong. He's strong enough to damage enemies larger than he is, and can do things like block flying boulders with one of his trademark spin attacks.
      • Enhanced Stamina-Crash doesn't tire easily, and is capable of performing extreme feats of endurance.
      • Mechanical Know-how-Despite Crash's simple demeanor, he has an impressive know-how of how to operate all kinds of machinery, from Jetpacks, Planes, Cars, Weaponry, Motorcycles, Mechs, etc
    • Crash has a number of natural Bandicoot abilities as well:
      • Digging-Crash, being a bandicoot, can burrow quickly into the ground if the soil is soft enough.
      • Animal Senses-With his large ears and nose, Crash has a better sense of hearing and smelling than most.
    • Items
      • Wumpa Bazooka-A bazooka that fires Wumpa Fruit at high speeds. Is it as powerful as a normal bazooka? No. Does getting hit with high speed fruit, let alone high speed anything, still hurt like the dickens? Oh yes. And where does Crash keep his Bazooka when it's not in use? That's an ancient voodoo secret.
  • Other: While Crash is largely a silent character, he does speak from time to time (words such as woah, uh-oh, ta-dah, ect). So the way I'm gonna play Crash is that he can speak, but mostly prefers to stay silent unless he has to talk.

I've wanted to try R Ping as Crash for a while now, given the remasters coming soon. It'll be an...interesting challenge.

Weird. Two characters that can dig. This city is only big enough for one digger and his name is Simon. tongue

With that, I just was curious about something and I felt that it would make sense to make a comment about it on the sign up thread since it does deal with a sheet. I saw something about the Crash sign up and I was just looking to make sure about something. Now, one of the key abilities that Crash has is the spinning attack but the sheet didn't really make a note about it other then a comment in Enhanced Strength. "and can do things like block flying boulders with one of his trademark spin attacks."

As you can imagine, this doesn't make it quite known if Crash will be happen to spin in the RP or not and I thought that bringing it up would be good so that confirmation can be made about it. I do apologize if you were intending for Crash to not have it in the RP. I'm not the GM of course but just something I thought of. Thank you for your time Dezmo. smile

@Weirdguy 149: I'm still not really directly familiar with Samurai Jack, but one of my friends is and has been keeping up with the new season as well. He confirmed that your signup is accurate, though he personally felt it was a bit too brief and didn't convey the nuances of the canon character. Since I don't want the signups to be huge though, I don't think it's a big deal.

Samurai Jack is, for the third time, accepted.

As with the others coming back, I ask that you reread the first post of the discussion thread, to remind yourself of anything you might have forgotten, and see what might have changed since you were last here. As for the main thread, you should read at least the last few pages or so before posting, so you have some idea of what's currently going on.

@Dezmo: So is Crash only going to have his clothes with him, or did you just forget about the items portion of the sheet?

But putting aside that oversight- I have not played any of the Crash Bandicoot games and know little about them. (Aside from some interesting character design technical talk videos that used Crash as an example, but they obviously didn't go into much detail of what Crash is like as a character or what he's capable of.) Of my friends, it seems only one might have, and I currently couldn't get in contact with her; so I checked the character trope page. There wasn't much there, but admittedly Crash is apparently a pretty straight forward character, so I can confirm that this sheet seems mostly accurate.

... Save for one glaring thing. I saw no indication, within the character tropes or in videos of Crash Bandicoot gameplay that I've seen, that Crash is as super fast as your sheet implies he is. In fact, his speed doesn't seem that impressive at all; that he can keep up his run seemingly indefinitely is impressive as a feat of endurance, but that would make him a good marathon runner, not a good hundred meter sprinter. And you already have that covered in noting his stamina.

On Crash's speed, he gets a move in the 3rd game called the Crash Dash that makes him a good deal speedier than normal. I don't know if you can really count it as being speedy as I made him out to be thinking about it now, but I'll let you judge.

As for items, Crash doesn't usually carry to much in the way of equipment or items, besides some Wumpa fruit (he won't have any Gems or Crystals on him for the RP). He DOES carry a fruit-firing bazooka in the 3rd game and Wrath though. Guess I could have him store it in Hammerspace (or handwave it as being voodoo magic storage space given he's friends with a witch doctor spirit)?

No, nothing in that video to me makes it look like, "Crash is easily capable of avoiding projectiles and enemy attacks with his superior speed." Especially not with as broad and undefined a statement as that is; if he saw a relatively slow attack coming from a distance, sure, but that doesn't mean he could pull some flash step dodge of a point blank sucker punch, or do some Matrix moves against bullets.

As for the bazooka, sure I'd allow it, though not as powerful as a real life bazooka.

Okay on the speed thing. And for the bazooka, yeah, it's not as powerful as an actual bazooka. Still, getting hit in the the face with high speed anything' is gonna hurt something fierce.

Alright, looks good to me then.

Crash Bandicoot is accepted.

Before you post, there is a few things you should do, if you haven't already. First, read the first post of the main thread to see what Crash's arrival should be like. Then, read up on the first post of the discussion thread for stuff like the current day conditions, and what the city is normally like. Lastly, you should recap at least a few of the latest pages in the main thread, so you have at least some idea of what's currently going on.

Gonna make a full on post in response to major edits Full Moon informed me of via skype to his latest backup signup, and to address some concerns that were brought to my attention recently.

So, the stuff added for Chise:

The pelt is fine, though any animal she turns into must still abide the usual signup balance rules. I'm not sure what you mean by "what is the most appropriate form for it" but if that's to mean the pelt will automatically pick the best option for her, then I'll have to say that particular aspect would be removed. Chise will have to decide what animal she becomes, and that could mean she picks something entirely not appropriate on accident.

The rest of the added items are also fine, though I need to know what "special stone" means in this instance; I can't accept it when left that vague.

As for addressing the concerns brought to my attention: After hearing the concerns out and thinking about it for a while, I've decided that Chise's mental linking ability should be treated, rules wise, more or less like a mental affecting ability and all that that entails. IE, those she uses it on have the option to force her out, and furthermore what information she can/can't obtain from their mind by using the ability will be entirely up to the player of the other character.

I'm interested.

  • Story: Overwatch

  • Name: Jamison "Junkrat" Fawkes
  • Age, gender, and species: 25, Male, Human
  • Appearance: "It's a perfect day for some mayhem!"
  • Personality: An affable, if impish and violent criminal at heart. Always excitable and energetic, he is usually in a chipper attitude. However, this does not detract from the fact that he is quite clearly unstable.
  • Backstory: During the Omnics Crisis, when machines-that-think-like-humans attacked humans, Australia was fallen into Omnics hands and shortly after, was reduced to a mostly inhospitable wasteland after an Omnium core ruptured. The Junkers scrounge the ruins of the land down under and Jamison Fawkes had found something extremely valuable, something that other scavengers, bounty hunters, and general crooks had wanted. To protect it from falling into the wrong hands (I.e. Any hands that aren't his), he enlisted the help of a Junker enforcer, Roadhog to be his bodyguard for a fifty-fifty split on the rewards. And so, they traveled the world, causing crime and chaos wherever they go.
  • Skills/powers/abilities:
    • Mechanical Talent: Despite his twitchy attitude, he has enough know-how to make bombs and weapons out of scrap found in the wasteland, a talent given to most Junkers really.
  • Items:
    • Frag Launcher: A grenade launcher made of scrap. Functions as well as any grenade launcher, with the bombs exploding on contact on an enemy, if not, 3 seconds after priming. Not as powerful as actual grenade launchers.
    • Concussion Mine: A mine that can propel both enemies and allies upwards (Not guaranteed)
    • Steel Trap: Basically a bear trap that can immobilize a human-sized person (Not guaranteed).
    • RIP-Tire: Junkrat revs up a tire-bomb that is remote controlled that can either be detonated immediately or after 10 seconds. This bomb is significantly more powerful than any of his others and can climb up walls, but it can be shot down. Can only be used once per day.
  • Other: Has an intense hatred for any mechanical life form, reminding him of the Omnics that reduced his home into a wasteland.

  • Story: Overwatch
  • Name: Mako "Roadhog" Rutledge
  • Age, gender, and species: 48, Male, Human
  • Appearance: "I'm a One Man Apocalypse"
  • Personality: Roadhog acts more beast than man, unafraid of utilizing violence when the first opportunity comes up. By contrast with his partner, Roadhog is mostly taciturn and serious, but he does have a bit of a silly side. He cares very little about most people, even his partner.
  • Backstory: When the Australian government surrendered to the Omnics, plenty of people had not taken the news lightly, least of all, Mako Rutledge. The man lead a rebellion to usurp the power of the Omnics and took the fight to them. However, the core of their base had ruptured, rendering the lands irradiated and inhospitable. The guilt and rage for being responsible for this made the man go by the moniker, Roadhog. He met with some squirrly Junker named Junkrat and had became partners in crime, literally.
  • Skills/powers/abilities:
    • Superhuman Strength: For all that fat, he has plenty of muscle under it. Capable of delivering powerful strikes and can lift heavy weights.
  • Items:
    • Scrap Gun: A one-handed shotgun that deals heavy damage from up close. It also has an alternate fire which can fire a ball of scrap that breaks off mid-flight for medium range.
    • Chain Hook: He throws a chain to a target and pulls them towards him with his superhuman strength (Not guaranteed). However, he would not be strong enough to move a semi-truck easily.
    • Hogdrogen Gas: A canister of the gas can heal his wounds.
    • Whole Hog: Roadhog slaps a top-loader onto his gun and turns the crank rapidly, firing out a maelstrom of scrap that can push back enemies (Not guaranteed) for a short time before breaking off. Can only be used once per day.
  • Other: Like Junkrat, he has a major disdain for any living machines as they remind him of the Omnics that had inadverdantly, caused him to reduce his home to a blasted land.

@Ore-O: I know a number of things about Overwatch, but I haven't directly played it myself. (Probably will sometime, but not yet.) Thankfully though, one of my friends does, and he was willing to take a look at the sheet for me; he confirmed it was basically all accurate.

I was doubtful about Junkrat and Roadhog qualifying as a character duo, but after discussing the matter with said friend for a while, I decided they actually would. On a tangentially related note, I've decided to finally edit and rewrite the rules on character duos, since this confusion has been coming up more and more lately, and I've found myself dissatisfied with what I originally wrote.

But anyway, back to the topic of your signup: While it is certainly accurate enough, I do have issue with some of the more arbitrarily video-game-like mechanics you're using, and also a few of the things do, technically, break my rules when taking your wording at face value.

  • The concussion mine can't be guaranteed to launch people upwards.
  • The steel trap can't be guaranteed to immobilize someone.
  • The chain hook can't be guaranteed to allow Roadhog to pull someone towards him.
  • The whole hog can't be guaranteed to push people back.

(I think you probably already know those; I just want to clarify for clarification's sake.)

The other thing is the various items that you have recharging after a certain period. This is what seems a bit too arbitrary video-game-like mechanics to just be like "boop, enough time has passed so our item has magically returned".

Also just on a balance note, I would not allow Junkrat's frag launcher to be as powerful as real-life grenade launchers, as having something that damaging that he can spam freely would put him significantly above most of the other player characters.

I have a question: Can I use an overpowered character if I nerf him to fit in the RP?

I was thinking if I could play as Saitama, except extremely nerfed, maybe equal or even below the Subterranean battle. Would that be allowed? If not, I could take Genos. (Again nerfed, but not as much.)

@Enirboreh: Yes. As the signup said, I'll accept any character so long as they fit those three minimum criteria, and that includes the likes of Saitama, Superman, or gods from the Elder Scrolls or Warhammer franchises, so long as they are sufficiently nerfed.

In fact someone almost signed up as Saitama before, but wouldn't accept the amount of nerf that I required and kept trying to rules lawyer Saitama in without being nerfed enough. So as long as you don't try to do that, you can sign up as him.

The changes to the pelt are fine. I also forgot to add that it likely only allows her to turn into animals that have fur.

It's not really elaborated what the "special stone" is, so as far as the RP is concerned it's just a fancy looking knife.

For the mind link, I was already intending that whatever she gets from it to be decided by the other player. About people being able to force her out, that's something I'm kinda unsure about because in the manga people don't seem to be aware that she's doing it in the first place.

@Full Moon: What it is in the canon is not really relevant to what I said.

It says in your signup sheet that she interacts with them in the dream-state. It would be unfair to the other players if she had free reign to do this without any chance to stop it. If they're actively interacting with her, then they definitely should be aware of it.

Saitama

  • Story: One Punch Man

  • Name: Saitama (last name unknown)

  • Age, gender, and species: 23 and a half, male, human.

  • Appearance: [1]

  • Personality: Saitama is a bit of an airhead, who would be more worried about the local sale at the supermarket in the middle of an intense battle. Due to his strength, he is constantly looking for more challenging opponents, but is slowly losing contact with his emotions. He is also quite humble, passing off his achievements as "normal." He is a kind person at heart, and even though he is just a hero for a hobby, he still tries to show up to save the day before it's too late.

  • Backstory: Saitama was a recently unemployed salaryman, looking for a job. After saving a child from a malicious crab monster, he showed great determination in becoming a strong hero. He started a training regimen: One hundred push ups, sit ups, and squats, then a 10 kilometre run every single day. After a year and a half of this simple exercise, his strength increased to superhuman levels. He also lost his hair, for a reason unknown. Due to his newfound strength, he had incredible ease defeating the monsters that popped up in his home city. After he was transported, (of which means he does not care to find out) he hopes to find new, more powerful opponents to face.

  • Powers:

    • Possesses superhuman strength. He is strong enough to lift a sedan, and bench press with it.

    • Also possesses superhuman speed. He can catch up to a sedan with ease, (Why? To bench press it, of course) and can stop when necessary in an instant.

    • Superhuman endurance. Can take quite a few knockout punches, and even a couple of bullets before passing out. He is still only human though, and it won't take that much longer to take him out.

    • He also has a strong will and determination, who never gives up a fight. Even to the point of death.

  • Items: The only thing of note is his super suit.

  • Other: Leitmotifs (for the sake of it:)

Well, sure. I mean considering how Chise's power works I would need to have permission to have Chise interact with them in their dreams in the first place so it feels kinda pointless to have her be kicked out, unless she really pisses off the character I guess. It's not like she can do much other than talk to them.

Either way I'll add the changes.
