Tru, I guess you can only protect 3 tiles...

But here's the thing, if your hero wasn't geared towards kingslayer poking the king may be a guaranteed loss, compared to them attacking the king, where if they lose, you win. I suppose it's impossible to know what would've happened if you let them try now. [lol]

Which is why the best way to get to prestigious position is to gear up so you can rapidly kill banes and other heroes ;D Means you can take on the king afterwards if you have to

Plus sometimes they have River D: In which case, you have no choice but take the risk xD

Patch 1.1 just went live today. Two new unlockable amulet options, new item cards, and now custom house rules are available.

...at least, it would be nice if I could actually play. The patch completely broke the game, as in crashes every time I start a game.

Sounds like a good time to check out the game again as any... once it works. Time to go unlocking..!

Latest hotfix fixed the issue. (Unity version incompatibility nonsense.)

Major patch hits today.

The big change: all heroes now have one additional Body. This makes the game really different (and a good deal harder to prey on weak heroes like before).

A few new cards have been added as well.

That's good. I always thought that games could never really get rolling because everyone had too little health.

Plus 1 HP? What? Well I guess that's a reason (besides the fact stealth sucks) that no one else picks Zosha but me...

Welcome to Season 2, folks!

Also, have the bandit clan and/or IOS version been released yet?

DLC announced with four new heroes (along with XBox release)!

The first hero revealed: A new Rabbit Clan hero, Elyssia. Her special talent allows her to modify villages she captures to cost 2 AP for other heroes to move into.

So how is this game? Because I keep waffling on whether to buy it or not. How does it compare, for example, to Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes?

Trying to compare the two is apples and oranges, really. Armello is a digital board game, not a 4X game.

That doesn't mean you won't like it, of course, but be aware it's a different genre altogether.

I thought about buying this game myself, but I was put off by some complaints about an over-reliance on RNG and a large snowballing (dying makes you die more, winning makes you win more, etc.) problem. Does that complaint have any merit to it? I play a lot of RNG-based games (Fire Emblem, XCOM, etc.), so I don't mind RNG if there are ample ways to tip it in your favor. Does the game do that?

And also that I have no friends to play it with. Is the AI any good? Does the online multiplayer work well? Is there a problem with cheaters, quitters or low player count? And how long do the matches last?

The RNG can be a little hard for new players, until you learn how to game the card decks to improve your odds. (Hint: don't be afraid to walk into peril spaces in order to burn your cards so you can draw more, since your card draw is basically drawing cards until your hand contains a certain number.) As for snowballing, it can happen, but most of the time it's because you're playing a non-combat hero against two or three hard hitters. And if you've gamed the cards (particularly item cards) correctly, that's not that big a disadvantage.

The A.I. isn't that good (especially once you get the hang of the game), but the game does include a random queue feature allowing you to play games with other random people. The queues can be a little slow, but you can almost always find a full game within fifteen minutes (usually faster). A full game lasts roughly around an hour, more or less depending on how fast the other players play and how the game is decided (if someone goes for early Kingslayer victory or not). You'll get occasional quitters, but then the A.I. will just take over their hero. Cheaters are banned by special software that keeps them from getting into the queue in the first place, so you'll never see them.

I find it pretty fun, though sometimes the AI plays Gang Up on the Human and will Leeroy Jenkins you if the fight is either inconclusive or not to its liking and they still have action points left.

It's not something you want to play obsessively, but it's pretty fun, the art is good, and the characters are all nice and varied.

That being said, as of the most recent update the Stranger can go suck a lemon.

I think certain AI (Thane's for instance) will always fight someone who is nearby them, and most will always do so if they even remotely think they can win. Since the AI are really stubborn about behaviors as well and will typically try the exact same thing upon respawning, this can lead to infinite loops where weaker AI will eternally feed stronger ones wins turn after turn.

Sort of. The AI works by designating a specific objective every 2-3 turns, and then moving to that objective in the most efficient way possible, given other factors. If you are in the way, and they are a combat hero who isn't low on health, they will fight you. (It's also why the AI has a tendency to attack guards a lot more often than players ever will, because the guards get in their path.)

It's pretty easy to see if you get Scout and you can see their quest target, since about half the time their objective is going to be their next quest. (Most of the rest of the time, it's going to be a specific town or a dungeon space.)

Today brings a new patch introducing a reward system for using the public multiplayer queue. It's pretty similar to TF 2, where you either get a locked chest or a key, and the result of both is a dice skin of varying rarity.

Also, there are a few other changes. The first and biggest is that Follower cards will no longer cost gold. (The Warlock will still give you Rot.) This makes a big difference since you'll never have to hold onto them for a turn or two, making it much harder for other players to steal followers from your hand.

The second is that if there are fewer than four Perils on the board at the start of night turns, the King will now throw a few extra ones out there to challenge players.

And the final change: Zosha's stealth now works inside the palace. Uh oh...

This weekend (starting on Friday), you will get two chances at key or chest rewards per game. So if you want to play, this weekend's a good time to do it.

Well does Zosha's stealth work in general now? No buggy dust particles?

As probably the only person who ever uses her (even before the +1 Body to everyone, mind you, I'm a hipster) I can't even judge that.

Apparently they released art for a new character, a rat whose title is the "Death Seeker", though I forget their name.

It's Sargon, the "Death Teller" of the Rat Clan. Oh, and they'd already released art of another hero as well, Elyssia the "Wardress of Warrens" of the Rabbit Clan.
