The last two were literally posted today from WB's own youtube channel. The original complaint is just weird, most movies don't start with tv ads until a month in advance anyway. The movie has also had plenty of market awareness via three trailers, social media and BVS itself. I might be able to understand if it was two weeks away with no sign of it, but it's still five weeks and these new spots just dropped. I also heard someone suggest they are waiting for Guardians of the Galaxy to release before going full throttle.

Yeah, but there's way less hype for this than there was previously. I don't know if it's because of Justice League stealing its thunder, more hype for Marvel's films, or what, but I've seen buzz for it become progressively quieter and quieter as time has gone on.

It's all relative to what circles you hang out with. My facebook feed lit up with reposts of the recent Wonder Woman tv spots. For reference, in the MCU thread people have only really started talking about GOTG in the last week or so as the movie comes close to release, otherwise they simply buzz for a few days after a trailer or other ad.

While I do like the video, I have to question making Diana the JSA's secretary wasn't a misstep. Making the sole female member a secretary to the team... yeah I'm not seeing how that isn't at least unintentionally sexist.

It was a little bit sexist, but the real reason they did it was because William Moulton Marston didn't want anyone else to write Diana and he didn't have time to write her adventures in the JSA book, so she was left on the sidelines. After Marston died, Diana suddenly became a full time member of the JSA.

"‘I’m excited for her to come to America’: Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins reveals sequel idea

“I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero,” Jenkins told the Sun in a recent interview. “I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.”

Jenkins first wanted to make Wonder Woman a decade ago. She grew up admiring Richard Donner’s Superman, and she wanted to see an origin story for Diana, princess of the Amazons.

“I always thought the origin story would be the great way to go,” she says. “I love origin superhero stories and I love the simplicity you can have with that journey. Also, there was the fact that no one had done her story and the fact that I love her. So it was a treasure trove of potential.”

Later this year, Gal Gadot will reprise the heroine in Justice League. But Jenkins tells fans there’s plenty to be excited about in DC’s upcoming film slate.

“I think there’s a lot of directors doing cool things,” she says. “I know the storylines for a lot of the films they are working on and they are all vastly different, with very different tones and very different styles of storytelling. ... Jason (Momoa) is off to shoot Aquaman right now and that’s such a cool story. It’s got its own separate vibe. I’m excited to see each of these films.”

Jenkins isn’t ruling herself out of directing any of the other planned comic book pics if Wonder Woman 2 doesn’t get going right away.

And the Rock wants a piece of her, too, although she might not know that yet.

“Patty has that really cool edge,” Dwayne Johnson told the Associated Press, revealing that he has her on his shortlist to direct the Disney pic Jungle Cruise. “I felt like she could be a really cool choice for a movie like Jungle Cruise. Plus, you know what? I’m just a big fan.”"

[up]Directors never learn. Don't save all your good ideas for your next film. It never happens. So we get Grimdark WW, it flops, no sequel, none of this happens.

What about this movie thus far makes you think it's going to be grim dark?

Because the DCEU IS DOOMED!!

I've already been informed the (supposed) lack of advertisement for this movie is because they know it will bomb. It's very nice of Warner Bros to just throw money down the toilet like this.

Because it takes place in WWI? And something happened to make Diana not be a super heroine for a century.

[up]This and well...we have a whole section on This Very Wiki called What Could Have Been where directors mention these amazing ideas for sequels...that never get made because the first film is boring and unsuccessful.

How about we wait until the film comes out first before we decide it's boring and unsuccessful?

[up][up]I actually like the idea of Wonder Woman through the ages ala a "Superman for All Seasons" approach as we see her turn into her modern age version. I just bet we never get to see it because that idea is being saved because the good stuff can't happen right away.

I want to like these films. I want a Conan-esque Aquaman film like his 90's Revival. I want the Booster Gold/Blue Beetle buddy cop film. I want the Green Lantern Training Day in space film. But we have to slog through all this stuff first.

I feel like a Wonder Woman through the years approach would entail both her fall and rise both personally and in her approach to humanity. Here we just see the fall.

Maybe it will have a Bittersweet Ending? Something bad clearly happens, but that doesn't mean the movie will be bad, just that it won't be fun for Diana. But if super heroes never had problems or tragic events, how would we be entertained? You couldn't have a movie about the Justice League going on a picnic and nothing bad happens, right?

[up]Most films have a character arc where there's a fall and a rise. We see them at their lowest point and then recover. The script Jenkins discusses is one that has her go through that arc before emerging as the modern Wonder Woman.

This I feel like it will be another film where we see everyone at their lowest point, then - "DAH END! Go watch Justice League!" We keep getting half of a character arc (except Suicide Squad which is arguably a giant "Shaggy Dog" Story).

1) Who says this film can't be good in its own right just because it's not what you want?

2) Do you know how many times ideas for films never make it to screen? It's a common occurrence in Hollywood.

By the way, for those who keep saying that io9 hates the DCEU and wants it to fail: here you go.

Patty Jenkins has admitted she was disappointed she didn't get to build the entire film from the ground up, including casting Wonder Woman, but that is just the nature of a Shared Universe. She has said she adores Gadot now and other than a few story points like WWI she was given a lot of freedom to make the movie she wanted.

Came across this article through the above io9 article. I just find it funny when people who know nothing about things like making a movie or marketing start complaining and offering tips. In this case, we literally had the last trailer a month ago and there has been continuous awareness of the movie through different platforms, this was all about traditional ads spamming regular tv.

I am curious about Wonder Woman's power level. I know, I know but that is important. If she's Superman level, she needs real foes.

I just got done re-watching the Doomsday fight and she did pretty well. No idea if she's Supes' equal, probably not, but she's certainly very superhuman. I wonder what she'll be fighting.

If this doesn't end up doing well it's because of the shitty marketing, not because nobody likes Wonder Woman. She was actually one of my favorite Justice League characters.
