More news about The Splat. It looks like it's going to be an 8 hour block from 10pm to 6am. (Presumably on Teennick.)

So that just seems like a rebranding of "The 90s Are All That" more than anything.

[up][up]Well that just fuckin seems pointless. Why not just use the budget for a new channel instead? You let me down again, Nick!

Does that mean they're going to kill off Nick-at-Night? I mean, Nick-at-Night has a lot of shows I don't like on it, but I do like The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. Where else could I watch it?

I think it's only going to be on Teennick, where the 90's are All That started.

[up] That source is actually giving me mixed messages hard. One minute it says "It's a New Channel!", but then the next minute it says "It's just a Programming block".

Also, the video on that source has toxic comments about who's a 90's kid and who's not. Those were actually the most toxic comments on Youtube I've ever seen (and they involved death threats. Over who's a 90's kid and who isn't!).

[up] Yeah, the whole "90s kid" debate thing has gotten pretty annoying. Don't they know that decades (and time itself) don't exist. They are just instruments to measure change in the universe that somehow end up being decorated by specific cultures tongue.

I consider it enough to have seen an animated series produced by Steven Spielberg but I don't know if anyone liked when they were on Nickelodeon

[up][up] [awesome]

Couldn't have said it better myself - if only because I have too many cartoons from right now I prefer to watch (including, without examples, ones people easily ignore or scoff at that I praise regularly!) over the fucking 90's fare I only watched BECAUSE. IT. WAS. ALL. THAT. WAS. THERE. FOR. ME., unlike now.

I'm proud to exclaim that, BTW - these nostalgia whores piss me off that much...

[up][up][up] I'd want to hear a Dave Matthews-type jam about making those kids get off my lawn and how nobody respects old people these days.

But really, the whole "90s kid" thing is stupid. No two people will ever have the same memories of what life was like back then. One kid might have watched a ton of Nickelodeon as a child and his neighbor next door a ton of Cartoon Network, and the neighbor after that a ton of Fox Kids or Kids' WB or whatever the major networks were offering.

And even through the years, it changes. To someone born in 1984, his memories of Nick would include Ren And Stimpy, the early years of Rugrats (before it was popular) and Double Dare. Someone born 5 years later would probably remember Hey Arnold, Cat Dog and Rugrats at the height of its popularity.

When you factor in the whole world, you can't just say "Unless you remember this, you aren't a 90s kid!" - Even if you lived through that time and can't remember it?

[up]I didn't have cable when I was a kid, so I didn't get to watch a lot of the shows people claim I need to have watched in order to be a "'90s kid." It's very annoying.

One big example of the whole thing...

And I can tell you that cable wasn't incredibly widespread at the beginning of the decade, but it grew with each decade. My house didn't get cable till the spring of 1999, for example.

So if you're going to say, "If you don't remember Rocko or Hey Arnold, you're not a 90s kid," then you'll have to deal with the people who lived through that time... but didn't have cable.

I'm intrested to see where they will take this, however, I don't see Nick rebooting all these shows. For some of them, too much time has passed, and the actors/actresses/crew/writers have either passed away or moved on to other projects. And if say, Rugrats, was rebooted, it would most likely be "Rugrats-in-name-only", and while it may have a similar look, it might not have the same charm and feel of the original.

Bart Simpson never watched Nickelodeon until he hung out with an older guy with the voice of Phil Hartman.

I honestly can't blame these so-called "90s Kids" for being who they are; Nick pretty much makes fuckin' money from everyone's nostalgia that it's no wonder such perspectives are formed.

Compared to most other kid networks, Nick pretty much buys the older crowd with nothing but old shows that were dead over a decade ago; this is part of a reason why this "90s Kids" is kinda mostly a Nick situation. Disney had good shows back then and it does now...likewise with CN.

With Nick, it uses nostalgia as a form of laziness...there's a reason why they have so fewer decent modern Nicktoons is because they're counting on people to instantly love and adore the older Nicktoons that everyone loved as a kid.

I don't care about the older Nicktoons anymore. They were great, they still are great...but they're over now. I've seen all the episodes and stuff and the novelty of seeing them over and over again has worn off, especially since we live in an age where I can just look up the shows online entirely.

The other channels are doing fine with the stuff they're producing though, so meh. Nickelodeon was never my favorite channel as a kid either, so it matters little to me whether they've declined, and also because I'm an adult with greater concerns than "the channel I watched as a kid isn't as good as it used to be!!!!1!!1!"

The Splat seems as though it could be a step backwards for the network. Recently I've read that changes in executives over at Nick are the reason for such a focus change in how they want to make new shows, what they want to bring back, ect. And that makes sense. What Nick seems to lack right now is a good foothold on new programs that can bring viewership in. I'd suggest they do what Cartoon Network is doing- promoting new shows, looking at fresh concepts, and doing some originality for a change. I'm no expert though!
