That's the kid book series that's basically Harry Potter meets Die Hard, right?
Heh, sounds like it's going to be fun.
Now I'm wondering if a bunch of Shakespearean characters and some crazy guy claiming to be a thunder god will show up.
Well, it's about time. Hasn't this been in Development Hell for like a decade? For a book series as prominent as Artemis Fowl, I found it weird that it never got a screen adaptation in the midst of the Harry Potter craze.
The big question is, of course: Are they getting Jason Statham for Butler?

I am only behind this if they make it either a stand-alone movie or a trilogy. The book series REALLY went downhill after the first three books.
Finally! Been waiting for some news about this. Here's hoping they can pull it off.
So we all still agree on Jason Statham for Butler? XD
I'm still curious if they'll go CG or live action, or mix it up with real humans and CG fairies. Though with Branagh directing, it seems live action is more likely now.
I actually liked the fourth book best, I think. Opal Koboi is my guilty pleasure (even in the last couple of books she was the main bright spot). They better get someone with good ham skills to play her.
My only qualm is Hollywood bending over backwards NOT to have a child villain protagonist. The original intention was to combine the first two books so Artemis at least had some kind of character arc pushing him away from evil genius status. I don't know if that's still the plan though.
Branagh's also signed on to remake Murder on the Orient Express, so he'll have his hands full. That one's going to be hard to pull off though since whoever gets to play Poirot has to do so in David Suchet's shadow. It's like someone replacing Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.

Yeah, a trilogy would be pretty great.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobPoirot's already been played by a bunch of different actors, though.
Get Jean Reno to play him and I'll be satisfied (of course Jean Reno is French and the character is Belgian but shush).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I'd buy Reno.
I know Poirot's been payed by a lot of actors, but Suchet's the most recent and arguably the most beloved. He had the benefit of almost 3 decades of TV as opposed to one or two movies that may or may not have been forgotten.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh.
Yes, really.
